Subreddit A reminder about civility on r/Boruto

Hello r/Boruto!

Following the recent Naruto: What’s Next? panel, there has been a lot of discussion about Boruto's place in the whole entire franchise. Disappointment about how little Boruto was shown is understandable, and I would have liked to see more myself, which is something I was expecting. I think some of the cards on the roadmap are specifically reserved for Boruto, too.

That being said, there's a couple of things I want to go over. Criticizing the series is fine. Enjoying it and defending what you like about it is also fine. You can question the pacing, artwork, story decisions or promotion without having your motives questioned, and you can enjoy those same things without being mocked for it.

What crosses the line is turning those disagreements into personal insults, harassment or judgments about someone else's intelligence, character, or morals. Calling people fake fans for criticizing Boruto, or likewise treating people as idiots for enjoying it, does nothing for the discussion and does not serve this community in any way.

It is my position that this subreddit will not be an echo chamber in either direction. Its mood will naturally follow how people feel about the series and the news around it. At times, it will lean one way. Nothing gets removed for which side it takes, and nobody gets to push the other side out with insults, dogpiling, or telling them to leave. Again, you don't have to be positive about the series, and you don't have to apologize for enjoying it either. The basic expectation for everyone to treat other members with basic respect.

I have been in enough anime, manga and gaming communities to know how quickly discussion gets buried under arguments about the fans themselves. Sometimes that might have been the case even here, with us removing the most severe of cases. I'd like us to address this before it becomes the norm here.

We will remove personal attacks and harassment regardless of whether they come from someone defending or criticizing the series. Please report rule breaking posts and comments rather than escalating the argument.

You don’t have to agree with each other about anything. You do, however, have to leave room for each other to participate in a fair way.

Have a happy rest of the week!

Subreddit r/Boruto Spoiler Policy Spoiler

Hey all. This subreddit has both anime-only fans and manga readers, so spoilers need to be handled properly.

We have had cases of manga content being posted carelessly in anime spaces, spoilers in titles, and posts not being tagged correctly. Here is a direct reminder and a quick checklist before you post:

1. Use the correct flair

Use the appropriate flair for your post:

  • Anime for anime content
  • Manga for manga content
  • Manga Leaks for leak content

If your post is about manga or leaks, or if it has the potential to contain discussion from the manga, do not flair it as anime.

2. No spoilers in titles

This is one of the most important rules.

A spoiler is anything that has not been adapted in the anime yet. That includes manga content, leaks, new characters, power-ups, major events, and obvious implications.

Do not put spoilers in the title. This includes direct spoilers and implied spoilers. No manga-only names, no technique names, no reveal bait, and no wording that gives away future plot points. Avoid masking names in titles with the asterisk (*) symbol. Depending on how it is masked and the context of the title, the post may be removed and your account may be banned.

Use common sense before posting. Ask yourself: would an anime-only fan learn something from this title? If yes, change it.

3. Spoiler tag the post

If your post contains spoiler material, it must be spoiler tagged so the content is hidden.

Using the correct flair alone is not enough. If the post contains spoilers, spoiler tag it.

4. No spoilers for other anime/manga

No spoilers for other franchises, whether manga or anime, will be tolerated.

Thank you all!

Manga Spoilers Boruto is NOT being decanonised.

The story is clearly set between Shippuden and nng, and will likely show Naruto and Sasuke fight in between the two. I have no idea how Narutostans are coming up with the Boruto is decanonised story. From the looks of it shadow Rising won’t last too long either, it seems like a mini series akin to jjk modulo.

Boruto is here to stay, it’s successful, and was actively being advertised in shibuya the other day, if it were unsucceaful they wouldnt be advertising in goddamn shibuya would they, right before a Naruto even alas. Pull yourselves together Narustans, stop being a hive mind of misinformation and pure toxicity.

Manga Spoilers / Discussion Am I the only one who doesn't like Sarada being a love interest for Boruto? Spoiler

I didn't want them to have that kind of relationship, I fully agree with Boruto being her shadow Hokage and helping her but I honestly hate the romantic aspect that was added.

I wanted them to be a cool friendship duo that were really close but never more than that. I am not a Borusumi fan, this has nothing to do with an agenda, I'm just sharing my honest opinion.

Manga Spoilers / Discussion I honestly hope Momoshiki doesn’t turn good; I don’t want to see Momoshiki and Boruto become friends—like what happened with Naruto and Kurama—because that would be too repetitive. Spoiler

Like, can we please just appreciate that we're getting new Naruto content, instead of turning it into a pissing contest? Why are we arguing about whether Boruto is being "decanonized"? (Spoiler: it's not.)

Manga Spoilers / Discussion WHAT IF BORUTO'S LOVE INTEREST WAS AN ŌTSUTSUKI PRINCESS? Spoiler

I came across a post discussing how Boruto might live much longer than ordinary humans because he is now 100% Ōtsutsuki biologically, and it got me thinking about an interesting hypothetical possibility.

We know that Boruto has become a complete Ōtsutsuki in terms of his biology, following the events involving Karma and Momoshiki. Despite this, he still retains his human appearance, carrying the physical traits he inherited from Naruto and Hinata.

But what if this were precisely what made his future so interesting?

If Boruto really does have a much longer lifespan than ordinary humans, wouldn't it be interesting to imagine his future wife being an Ōtsutsuki as well?

Just think about it: hypothetically, what if Boruto's love interest were an Ōtsutsuki princess? A girl with a calm, gentle, kind, and understanding personality, someone who could see beyond his human appearance and truly understand his nature.

I'm not saying this needs to happen in canon, but I think it's an interesting possibility to explore.

After all, if Boruto ends up living for centuries or even longer, while his human partner has a very different life expectancy, that could create a complicated situation for them emotionally. It wouldn't necessarily make a relationship between them impossible, but the difference in their lifespans could have significant consequences for their future together.

That's why I find the idea of an Ōtsutsuki partner for Boruto so interesting. Someone who could share not only his biological nature but also a potentially much longer existence.

And this wouldn't mean Boruto would have to abandon his human roots or stop being Naruto's son. His appearance, values, memories, and personality would still be part of who he is.

In fact, it would be interesting to see a character who also has an extraordinary nature but is emotionally warm and understanding, someone who could help Boruto find his place in the world.

And what about Sarada in this hypothetical scenario?

I can also imagine a future where Sarada finds someone human with whom she can share her life and grow old. Someone who understands her ambitions, respects her dream of becoming Hokage, and walks alongside her as she builds the future she wants.

This doesn't mean Boruto and Sarada couldn't work out. It's simply a hypothetical reflection on how his potentially extended lifespan could influence his romantic choices.

Ultimately, I think it would be interesting to explore this possibility: Boruto ending up with an Ōtsutsuki woman who could accompany him throughout his long existence, while Sarada finds her own path and someone compatible with the life she wants to build.

What do you guys think? Would an Ōtsutsuki princess as Boruto's love interest be an interesting idea to explore?

Simple question, is it by design that on Boruto, young Narutos hair is super short and way less spikey. Is this by design? Or just a silly design mistake

Manga Spoilers Is he gonna get his happy ending? Spoiler

Post image
30 Upvotes

Shonen protagonists are often viewed in a way that they always have a personal goal, have their happy ending and "yaaay".

Like Naruto becoming Hokage and having a family of his own.

Boruto used to have the goal to become a Shinobi like Sasuke and now,he is literally already living this goal, but I feel like the older he gets, the more I think he doesn't see a future for himself and that his life as a "Shinobi in the shadow" is gonna end pretty "quickly" for him.

His goal is to "restore the Uzumaki family."

However, does he include himself when he is just called Boruto Otsustuki now?

Do you also think that Boruto has become someone who absolutely doesn't care about himself anymore?

And if so, what do you think about this?

Manga Spoilers / Discussion Naruto and Hinata chapter 38 and beyond Spoiler

I wanna hear your thoughts on this. I wanna assume Naruto and Hinata haven't been effected by the mind control/perception alteration that effected everyone else.

So part of me wonders, is it possible that as soon as they're freed, they're gonna catatonic for a while but then after some recovery, find out what's happened, perhaps even being furious? Or do you think they as soon as they get freed, they're back to where they left off and they're gonna be shocked about how much time has changed and what happened to Boruto.

In fact, let's say the perception alteration is undone, everyone sees Boruto as an ally again, Kawakii is enemy number 1 or at some point, AT LEAST viewed as a suspecting ally, and he let's Naruto and Hinatta out of the dimension he kept them in, and they're tired but regain consciousness....how angry/forgiving do you think they will be?

Personally, I feel like in canon/in the story, Naruto will be furious at Kawakii and hell, even though it's not the village's fault really, might hold some annoyance and anger for the hidden leaf, but ultimately, Naruto is too grown and too forgiving of a person to hold a grudge. So much to everyone's begrudging, I can see 2 possibilities.

  1. Naruto, despite his grievance with Kawakii lying, betraying Boruto and trying to kill him again, he'll probably still forgive him and try to welcome him back, but Kawakii with immeasurable guilt, can't go back and refuses.

  2. Kawaki ends up dying near the end of the series, and he releases Naruto and Hinata, as a last act of kindness or an attempt to make up for what he did, and doesn't want Boruto making up any excuses for him.

What do you think will happen?

Manga Spoilers / Discussion Alternative Boruto: NO Otsutsuki, who would be the villains? Spoiler

Post image
12 Upvotes

Let’s say we are in an alternative reality where the story ended with Naruto and Sasuke vs. Juubi-Madara and Kaguya Otsutsuki was never introduced.

After the final fight Hagoromo took back the Indra and Ashura chakras from Naruto and Sasuke. Leaving them respectively with KCM2 and EMS. The rest goes all the same.

Fast forward to Boruto’s times. Who would be the next villains? What threat would you create for Boruto’s world? You can invent anything you want as long as you think it would make a good story to be told in the Naruto universe.

Manga Spoilers / Discussion Boruto Is Canon. 'It's Ikemoto's Manga' Doesn't Mean It's Non-Canon.

Thumbnail

Obviously, Chapter 700 puts Boruto and Sarada in the canon. They were introduced by Kishimoto himself in the final chapter of Naruto.

The current cope being spread around is that all the content produced thereafter (Boruto NNG + Two Blue Vortex) is not considered canon since "Kishimoto didn't write it/it's not his manga".

This is completely false.

Kishimoto has always been overseeing the series. To begin with, Kishimoto was the editorial supervisor of the series, while starting from Chapter 52, Kishimoto was officially credited for the story drafts. When Kishimoto says "this is Ikemoto's manga", he means the day-to-day routine – Ikemoto makes detailed scripts and draws it; however, Kishimoto has the last word, reviews every single chapter and used to provide the basic story outline for the series up until then.

Kishimoto literally stated:

  • He goes through every single chapter because he's still a part of the team.
  • He created the major points for the story draft as a template up to the end.
  • He and Ikemoto discuss changes and proceed accordingly.
  • Kishimoto would never have done Boruto if Ikemoto had not agreed to take it up.

It's not a pointless side project. It is the creator granting the permission and supervision for the official sequel. It IS canon. You can dislike it all you want but don't be pathetic about "it is non-canon."

Anime / Discussion question for the Boruto supporters Spoiler

why is Boruto hated on? i’ve loved Naruto for a while but i’ve been really getting into it more. I started Boruto a bit ago and am on ep. 132. I’m aware it’s different than Naruto, like story telling, symbolism, the vibe and meaning to things just aren’t the same. It is also not dark at all. (I believe it will definitely get dark in some way) In terms of where the story and the world of Naruto is going I think it’s good, of course they are going to build off the Okutsuki. With the announcement of Naruto : Shadows rising I see people being happy saying that Boruto’s “not canon” first this isn’t even confirmed or debunked, right? second, are people just hopping on the hate train that’s been around since the show first came out? Wtf is wrong with Boruto?

Kishimoto and Naruto having the same posture, both overworked and stressed, and reasonably so. Idk, Naruto might be sloughed even more.

Can I just say I love that Ikemoto didn't try to make Naruto into this badass all the time. He of course has his cool moments, and he's very strong, but he still retains that goofy side of Naruto which is essential to his character. I just love it.
