I think most of us have accepted that sometimes you're going to lose to someone who's already been eliminated. It's always been part of Battlegrounds, and I get it. Somebody has to fight that board, and sometimes you're going to lose. It is what it is.
But there's one change involving Aberrations that I genuinely don't understand.
When Aberrations first came out, if you fought someone who had already been eliminated, killing their Aberrations wouldn't summon the Deity. You could still lose the fight, but at least you weren't dealing with that mechanic on top of everything else.
Apparently, that was changed, because now the Deity spawns even when you're fighting someone who's already out.
What I find strange isn't even the mechanic itself. It's that this was apparently something worth going back and fixing.
With performance issues, other bugs, and plenty of things that could use attention, this just seems like such an odd thing to prioritize. The previous behavior was one of those little things that made an otherwise frustrating situation slightly less frustrating. Now that small upside is gone, and I'm struggling to see what was gained from the player's perspective.
I'm genuinely curious if there's a balance reason for this that I'm overlooking, because otherwise it feels like one of those changes where leaving things alone would've been perfectly fine.
edit: I wrote this in a comment but i'll add it here too. I think people are missing my point. I'm not arguing that they should revert the change or that the old behavior was how the mechanic was intended to work.
My point is, why go out of their way to fix this particular interaction in the first place?
It was basically a happy accident. Fighting someone who's already eliminated has always been a necessary but sometimes frustrating part of Battlegrounds, and this was one tiny situation where that frustration was reduced.
Nobody needed them to fix this. It wasn't hurting anyone. It was just a small, unintended benefit for the player. With all the other issues in the game, it's baffling to me that someone took the time to make sure even that little benefit disappeared, instead of spending that dev time on something actually needed. Just feels silly to me.
