The Blair Witch Project with all three original cast members live for a post-screening Q&A in Albany, New York
Hey everyone! We’re The Egg, a concrete brutalist egg-shaped performing arts center in Albany, New York. Nice to meet you.
We thought this would be worth sharing with the Blair Witch community, because who else would understand how incredibly cool this is?
As you may already know, the three original cast members, Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard, and Michael C. Williams have been on a tour for a few months doing some really amazing, and incredibly rare screenings and live Q&A’s. We’re incredibly grateful to be one of their stops!
The three actors will be sharing behind the scenes stories from the making of the film and answering questions, with the discussion moderated by Albany filmmaker and educator Daysia Hiller.
It's hard to overstate how much The Blair Witch Project changed independent film and the horror genre in general. The independent film that turned into a genuine cultural phenomenon. We’re super excited to have the cast here and experience this film together.
Just to be transparent, this is a ticketed screening and live event, but given the film's history and the chance to hear from all three actors in person, we thought it was something this community might appreciate. Thank you to the mods for allowing us to post this here!
Hope some fellow Blair Witch fans can make it!

Discussion New Footage From Original Tapes
I thought I saw something about the original D.V. tapes being converted and uploaded for a remaster of the flick; is this still happening, or am I crazy?

Discussion Digital copy problems (maybe disc too?)
As with other people, I entered the digital code and got prompted to redeem on Fandango/Vudu or Movies Anywhere. Since Fandango already supports Movies Anywhere and that's where a lot of my library is, I just clicked that out of habit. Unfortunately, the copy Fandango gives you is not Movies Anywhere, for some reason. Also, the Movies Anywhere site has the movie listed and says it's available at Fandango, but clicking on the link takes you to a 404 page.
I've also seen people saying the Movies Anywhere option doesn't work anyway, and you have to redeem through Fandango. Seems like there's some sort of weirdness happening here, but that could potentially be fixed.
The bigger issue, though, is that the copy Fandango gives you is not the restored theatrical cut! It's just the regular theatrical version. If you watch the Second Sight version, you can see the difference. In that, anything recorded with the handheld 8mm camcorder (in color) is 60 fps and anything shot with Josh's camera (black and white) is 24 fps. This is what the filmmakers intended and was the whole point of this release. That's what the restoration was for. Artisan (the original distributor) filmed a projection of the movie at 30 fps because movie theaters in the 90s couldn't do different frame rates for the most part. But what Fandango gives you is just the bog-standard everything 30 fps version that's been available on their site for years.
On top of that, I'm seeing comments on the blu-ray.com forums that the version included on the disc is also the regular 30 fps theatrical cut and not the Second Sight restoration at all. I haven't checked this myself yet, but that could be a huge error if it's the case.
Update: The disc versions look fine to me, so I think this is just a digital problem.

Ladies & Gentlemen. We found her.
You know it, I know it.
This is what I envisioned she looked like growing up, well before I knew anything about Susan Dell.
She makes me uncomfortable like the movie did as a kid... This is the Blair Witch and you can't convince me otherwise.
Just injecting some Halloween humor.
Love you, don't ban me <3

OC Got to see the Big 3 in Seattle this last Sunday!
It was really fun to get to see them in person and hear each of them speak on their experiences filming the movie! It was really nice to hear Mike and Josh give Heather the respect and acknowledgments she deserves for her hard work on the project as well.

Question Anyone else want the rations?
I'm one of those weird people that gets hungry the moment I see food, whether it's in a movie, a cookbook, etc. When I saw the beginning where they were picking stuff up at the store, I was like, "Hey, where is mine?"

Discussion Falling back in love with this movie
I was 10 when this movie first came out. I didn't see it until it came out on VHS and I rented it from Blockbuster, and it scared the absolute hell out of me. It wasn't for probably another two or three years that I learned that it wasn't actually real. They did so well marketing it as actual found footage with the documentaries and missing posters and all.
I can still remember that first time I watched it. I was supposed to go watch a meteor shower with my aunt and uncle, and while I was waiting for them to come pick me up, I decided to pop it into the VCR and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
My aunt and uncle arrived after the movie was over and we headed out to the boonies to watch the meteor shower, away from the light pollution. My uncle found a spot to park, some field next to an abandoned house that looked an awful lot like Rustin Parr's house at the end of the movie. They went and laid down in the field, but I was too terrified to get out of the truck because of that damn house after I'd just watched the movie.
I was never that big of a horror movie fan, only watching one on the rare occasion, but this movie always sat at the top of the genre for me. There's a handful or so that I've always liked, and the movie Arachnophobia gave me arachnophobia, but nothing ever had the effect of TBWP.
I was always more of a comedy fan, but after my wife died last year, I don't really get much out of it anymore. Recently, I decided to give horror another chance since death and dread have become such an overwhelming piece of my personality now, and this movie is still just as alluring as ever, and I've become an even bigger fan now than I was back then.
I've watched the movie numerous times lately. I watched some videos of Mike, Josh, and Heather answering questions about the movie on youtube (though one was hard to watch because they recorded it on the day my wife died and the date was on the screen behind them). I even watched the extended 3 hour version with all the extra scenes they've mentioned, like Mike's breakdown scene(s) and the slam poetry bit they were embarrassed about.
I also watched Blair Witch 2016, and while I liked the added lore, I found it pretty meh. The repetitive jump scares became tedious and annoying, the acting was too rigid and scripted by comparison, and I think it would've been better not to show the monster/witch/whatever that was, at least not fully. I think it would've been much better if they'd kept it lo-fi and ad-libbed like the original.
Anyway, I think I've rambled enough, so I'll just close out by saying I love this movie. It's amazing that they were able to turn $60k into something so incredible, haunting, and genuinely believable. I know it's always been somewhat polarizing and not for everyone, but I love this movie so much and it still stands firmly as my favorite horror movie ever.
I'm gonna turn off the lights and watch it again now.

Discussion I sometimes wonder what the Witch thought as technology and culture evolved.
It kind of makes me curious. Elly has been in that forest since at least the 16-1700s. She prob witnessed the invention of the train, automobile, planes... electricity and radio. I kind of wonder what she thought of it all... That is if she kept her sanity over the years that is.

Question How did Rustin Parr manage to build a house in the middle of the woods?
I remember reading that he had isolated himself in the woods and out of nowhere after some time reappeared to the people of Burkstville just to buy groceries from time to time and that he had built a shack in the heart of the woods
The question is how did he get material for it? And how did he survive working on it night to night without going crazy in that place? For such a house to be ready with only one person's labor would take months, how did this man manage to sleep and work on it in such circumstances

History of found footage films
I wanted to do a group of retrospective video essay's about found footage film's, not particularly just horror but that is a majority of the films under the sub genre.
I want to look at pre-Blair witch project (pre-1999) films. I'm starting with The Blair witch project because I feel it's the most well-known and popular found footage film in history. Also it is considered to be the first modern found footage film as I say in the video.
I know the genre has become something beyond what it originally started as but I feel a lot of the film techniques are utilized in a majority of horror films nowadays.
In the video I say my criteria for what I believe is truly found footage, because before The Blair Witch Project it's very tricky to define what exactly the genre encompasse's.
To pretty much sum up what I consider to be a true pre-99 Blair Witch found footage film.
A Fake Pseudo Documentary That The Viewer Believes to Be Real And The Filmmaker Propagates to Be Real Even Though It Is Completely Fabricated.
When it comes to the film techniques used in found footage, like shaky cam and a lot of unsteady shots, it makes it hard to define based off that alone, because a lot of pre Blair witch found footage and pseudo documentaries don't implement a lot of that, a few do but not many.
The reason I decided to do this is because in some regards found footage pre-99 is just homemade footage, that somehow made it big enough to get shown at film festivals, movie theaters or a powerful television executive who believes it's real and needs the information spread.
A lot of them are television specials but presenting themselves as authentic for the most part.
Also due to the nature of these films being believed to be real footage when distributed, they caused a lot of controversy when they were released, whether it be the actors facing struggles themselves or the director's and film maker's being ostracized.
