100% agree. Not only do you have to be incredibly bright in school to even get into a medicine degree, but it requires a particular type of character to be able to handle what's involved in being a doctor.

I certainly couldn't manage dealing with life threatening conditions on a daily basis.

Right so heres the craic, Bittles IS good for Guinness, but the fella running it is a grumpy auld shite who has made a thing about begrudgery.

Nice bar, unique look to it, nice guiness (rotten toilets btw), awful aul prick of a fella running it who has (personal experience) told us to leave a table because we all weren't drinking pints.

But aye, hit it for one and see the craic before heading on. I'd recommend the Sunflower (lovely pizza), the American (aforementioned), the John Hewitt, the Reporter... Tbf there's a lot to pick from, you'll be grand in the weekend.

Some people I know are the biggest drug takers live behind gates on the Malone Road it’s just hidden. If you act the big time Charlie in Finaghy people are going to notice

A lot of Upper Lisburn Road is already mixed and property prices have literally doubled in the last 10 years. All the streets between Kings Hall and Finaghy have shot up. Used to get a 3 bed 1930s semi in Priory or Sicily Park for £150k -£200 now a fully modernised one is £350k and a detached is £450k can see the whole Upper Lisburn Road getting to Upper Malone or BT9 prices very soon it’s crazy

Yeah there's another 'fancy' cocktail bar that is genuinely lovely called Rattlebag, but as pleasant as it was, it was a bit 'notions' for me. But if it's cocktails you're after, you'll get some good options there.

But yeah Orisha is that without the notions. It's a bit wee, but there's usually good tunes and it's chill af.

He sounds like he would be a great mentor or support for younger men who have faced similar challenges. Would he consider volunteering with a relevant charity?

My husband signed it (he’s Italian). I hope you get it sorted. We have to do everything via Edinburgh which is unfair!

Would anyone really notice them on strike if you tried to get an apt?

That’s sad I hope you reunited them with her family. Can you post on Facebook groups? I feel like you’d have a bit of luck on there, my friends parents are in a few east Belfast Facebook groups.

Why can’t they fund a new location themselves, like every other business in the city centre.

I understand go fund me for medical issues, but there’s business loans for genuine businesses. Seems like a money grab and a bit bizarre

Honestly, a lot of the projects that involve the west link would require a large scale bypass of Belfast as it’s not just the choke point of traffic for Belfast, it’s where NI’s three main motorways join, so you can’t just press pause on a system like that. There was talk about a bypass built in prep for the proposed new Yorkgate Interchange. But because of the mountains to the west, it would be an effort in itself to build.

As an idea though, I think it would be a brilliant solution to how poor the interconnection between either side of the city is.

My guess is because the place has been on an economic decline over the past two decades, shops shut, but then new immigrant owned shops open and migrants being placed in the area... Makes people feel as if they're being replaced, thus makes them more defensive and aggressive.

Not saying this justifies it, but pretend your ma drank and smoked while she was pregnant with you for a second

On the flip side, it’s basically upper Malone, and the public transport is as good as it gets in Belfast.

Some of my best friends grew up in Erinvale. Absolutely not a sectarian bone in their bodies, and generally just decent people who minded their own business.

That said, I’ve seen people end up on the wrong side of the wrong people. They liked their cars, enjoyed the odd recreational drug and could be a bit flashy, but for the most part kept themselves to themselves. Unfortunately, that was enough to attract the wrong attention and give certain people an excuse to make their lives difficult, to the point there families had to flee.
There was also a serious incident recently involving a house fire reportedly linked to drugs, which doesn’t exactly help the area’s reputation.
So I wouldn’t judge Erinvale or the people who live there by those incidents. They are brilliant people from the area, but I wouldn’t pretend those problems don’t exist either.

Orisha does class cocktails, and the bar has a lovely, relaxed vibe.

If you fancy a small jaunt/taxi, the American Bar is wonderful. Food is delicious, reasonably priced, zero pretense and just a lovely vibe. Might be some tunes on, might not.
