Meta [META] Please - STOP POSTING HUMAN MEDICAL QUESTIONS - r/AskVet is for animal health – Not human medical advice

Every day we get multiple posts from people asking what they should do after being bitten, scratched, or otherwise injured by animals. These posts do not belong here and just create a lot of unnecessary work for the mod team, who have to review and remove each one manually.

Do not post here asking:

  • If you need rabies shots
  • Whether you should be concerned about an animal scratch or bite

This subreddit is for veterinary advice not human health. If you’ve been bitten, scratched, or otherwise exposed to wildlife or stray animals, please contact a doctor or go to urgent care or the ER.

My Grandparents Cat Needs Help

Hi, I am asking here because I need some guidance on how to handle this situation with my grandparents, geriatric cat. (sorry for any typos, using voice to text for some of this) So I (22F) have grandparents in their 80s that should not be living alone, but miraculously pass, any cognitive test thrown their way. my grandpa largely immobile and my grandma has undiagnosed dementia. (it’s a whole situation, but this is important context) they don’t answer the door. They don’t go to doctors appointments and the only people allowed in the house on regular basis is me and my older brother. All this to say they have always had cats, most recently they had 3…then 2…now 1. The older my grandparents get the worst shape the cats have been in. In the past, when there was still two cats, I offered to take them to the vet, practically begged to no avail. Then one of them passed and many members of my family have tried to ask what they did with the body and we have gotten no answer. Now they have one cat left, Max. Max is somewhere between 15-17 years old at least. I just saw him for the first time today in AWHILE, and he is in BAD shape. Matted all over, down to the skin.
Claws that you can hear clicking on the floor when he walks, no doubt curled back into his paws and Sores around his eyes. I wanted to cry looking at this poor cat. He desperately needs to be euthanized. I tried to ask what happened to his eyes and got no answer. I have also heard from my dad that this cat has had a long history of convulsions. my family has always said there’s nothing we can do but it just doesn’t feel right. This cat is suffering and there is nothing I can do to end it? if I reported them to animal control, there is no way the animal control could get access to the house. I called an emergency veterinary clinic and they said without my grandparents consent that they can’t do anything, not even a nail trim. So now I come here to ask…is there anything I CAN do for Max? With any advice, assume I can’t get consent from my grandparents to do literally anything with the cat, asking to cut this cat’s nails would probably be a stretch if the cat would even let me. Any advice you can think of helps. I just can’t stand by and watch another cat go like this and except that’s just how things have to go.

In home euthanasia or go in now

My sweet kitty has an appointment for in home euthanasia tomorrow morning at 9am (a little over 16hrs away). I’m not sure if I should wait for that or take him into the vet er immediately.

He is obviously sick but is breathing ok and is “outwardly” ok, except he is hiding under the bed which is not a normal spot for him and he is sighing sadly intermittently. He’s not really eating and has fresh blood in his stool. The vet did not seem to think that would mean he should go in immediately. If he seems like he is in unmanageable pain or otherwise goes further downhill I will take him in overnight.

He has been through a lot in the last month and a half, and I hate the idea of him being terrified getting stuck into his crate before getting taken to the vet again. However he doesn’t feel good/comfortable/happy/healthy which is all I want for him.

Is it better to let him “relax” at home until the morning, or stress him out but take away all of his pain quickly.

He has IBD and asthma, and developed diabetes from the prednisolone to treat the IBD. He hasn’t been able to get stable on his medications.

Senior Cat's condition not improving and I fear the worst

Senior Cat's condition not improving and I'm fearing the worst.

I'm a 20 year old living on their own with my 13 year old tortoiseshell cat. We have a vet appointment starting next week.

Lately, I've been really tired and upset, and I don't know how to stop feeling frustrated taking care of her. It's been a new problem every day.

She was throwing up a lot every night, I mean constantly previously, but still having a strong appetite. I took her to the vet, she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Then after a month of methimazole treatment, all her levels were stable and good. Her t4's in good shape, her kidneys great. She was drinking bone broth/water with her wet food. She was eating two weruva low phosphorous a day and eating pumpkin puree. Her stool was back to normal. However, my dumb ass didn't realize the pumpkin puree was just a bandage to a potentially bigger problem.

Her lack of appetite was abrupt all of last week, it started out with her only eating 1.5 cans, then 1. Then last Sunday, she wouldn't eat half of 1. I had to go to class, so in two hours I'd come back to see if we could try again. When I got home, she threw up around the entire apartment for the first time in a long time. The first thing I heard the moment I opened the door was her screaming vomiting. so I scooped her up and took her to an emergency vet.

They said everything was fine, and that through the xray, she had a little stool in her colon but it was a normal amount for a cat. They said it was potentially arthritis. They then rehydrated her with SQ fluids, put her on lactulose/appetite stimulants and sent me on my way.

She ate all of yesterday and had really bad smelly diarrhea into the litterbox, then she shit OUTSIDE the litterbox. She hid all day the next day. I did my best to replenish her, and her appetite/thirst still good.

But now, day 3 of lactulose, and appetite stimulation. She refuses to touch her plate, and acting confused, and sleeping a lot. She's been fed bone broth, hydracare, and now doesn't want to touch it today. Like, she's barely used the litter box today. THEN she threw up nothing, no yellow bile, no vomit, then had some water to drink.

It feels like a vicious cycle. I don't know how to feed her because it seems like she'll throw up without the pumpkin puree or lactulose, and that just doesn't seem right to me because it's ALL food. So it can't be just a food sensitivity. It's like nothing works. I'm scared there's something worse wrong with her, that our 5th vet visit still somehow hasn't caught.

She has good days and bad days, but the bad days are starting to feel more frequent because it's every day I come home to a mess. She's having all these problems that are happening at once, like her condition is declining super quickly right in front of me and all I can think of is why didn't I help her sooner?

But there's just a voice telling me like what if she doesn't get better, or I don't even know what the point of my entire post was. I'm lost. These incidents and vet visits are also becoming frequent and stacking up. I know taking care of an elderly cat isn't easy but sometimes I get so angry at her condition because it wakes me up in the middle of the night or I come back to an apartment smelling of vomit or shit. Then that anger turns into fear and sadness because I can't imagine how my cat feels to constantly feel sick or bad.

My questions are:

  • Could unmanaged arthritis pain alone cause this cascade? (If it hurts to squat, she holds her poop --> gets constipated --> nauseous/vomiting --> stops eating). We are discussing Gabapentin at our next visit.
  • What diagnostic should I ask for next? She tested negative for pancreatitis, CKD, her T4 is 1.3 and liver levels good

Is she nearing the end of her life? 13 just feels too young to die. She's been with me since I was 7

2 year old cattle dog is refusing to eat again after the vet

• Upvotes

Age: Approximately 2 years
Sex: Female, spayed
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog mix
Weight: Approximately 26 lbs
Location: Arizona, USA
History and clinical signs:
My dog Ellie recently experienced vomiting and loss of appetite. I took her to the veterinarian on Tuesday, October 13, where she was examined and had bloodwork performed. Her bloodwork came back completely normal.
Also her refusal to eat started on a camping trip that took place Friday the 9th through Monday the 12th. She ate normally that Friday and Saturday but Sunday and Monday she refused food.
Abdominal X-rays were recommended, but I declined them at the time due to financial reasons.
She was prescribed:
Maropitant (Cerenia): 30 mg once daily
Omeprazole: 10 mg/ once daily
After returning home from the veterinarian on Tuesday, she ate her dinner normally. She continued eating her meals afterward, including enthusiastically finishing her entire breakfast on Thursday, October 15.
However, this evening (October 15) she suddenly became hesitant to eat her regular kibble again. She attempted to bury it in her crate rather than eat it.
When I tried hand feeding her, she started chewing the kibble but then gagged and spat it out.
She continues to accept softer treats and swallow her medications without difficulty.
Other observations:
No vomiting since her veterinary appointment Tuesday
Normal, formed bowel movements
Drinking water normally
Normal energy and playful behavior
No recent changes to her regular kibble
No apparent behavioral changes other than refusing dinner
Another concern is that Ellie requires a muzzle during veterinary examinations. I’m unsure if that conflicts with a mouth examination.
My questions:
Could an incomplete oral examination be relevant given that she gagged while chewing her kibble but accepts softer treats?
Would an oral examination and x rays be reasonable next diagnostic steps?
How concerning is a sudden refusal of one meal after two days of eating normally, especially while taking her meds?
What signs would indicate that she needs emergency evaluation rather than a scheduled veterinary recheck?
I understand that a diagnosis cannot be made online. I’m planning to follow up with her veterinarian, but I would appreciate guidance on what to investigate next.
Thank you. I’m just super worried for my girl, she’s my heart, soul and best adventure buddy.

fever and low white blood cell count

• Upvotes

on tuesday morning i noticed that my 3 year old kitty girl was acting strange, she was laying in the dark furnace room (probably because the floor was cold) and then she came out and looked hunched with her fur sticking up along her back and tail. i picked her up and she meowed so i put her down. i immediately knew something was wrong so i took her to the vet, she had a fever and we did a blood test showing she has low white blood cell count, extremely low. she got an xray and a belly scan? i think is what it was, and he said that everything looked normal on there, no fluids. he told me i should hospitalize her but that would be thousands of dollars, as much as i would love to do anything i can for her, im not working right now so it wasn’t really an option. so he put her on a steroid to suppress her immune system in hopes that it’s just hyperactive and doing this would hopefully help her start producing more white blood cells. he also put her on antibiotics. she refused to eat or drink even after putting her on mirataz (appetite stimulant) so she didn’t eat or drink for over 24 hours. i took her to the vet again today (wednesday, so the next day) and they couldn’t say much except force feed her so she doesn’t get liver issues and they gave her some fluids under her skin but i think they only last about 6-8 hours. this was 8 hours ago and ive gotten her to eat a bit a couple times (maybe a teaspoon amount) and then i just fed her an hour ago and got her to eat about a table spoon size. the food is wet food from the vet that he said is packed with nutrients and whatnot so he said it’s best to feed her that if anything. she’ll only eat off my fingers with strong encouragement but luckily she didn’t make me have to force her the second time. she’s been nonstop sleeping and she’s not super responsive when she is, but if i get her up, or she hears the door to outside open she lifts her head and is then aware. she’s my bestfriend and i want what’s best for her and i want her to push through. just sitting here on the couch while she sleeps i can’t help but think worst case scenario. i guess im looking for reassurance, she lays comfortably and stretches out, she just licked my fingers like she normally does because she’s an affectionate girl. i think these are good signs but i just don’t know what to think. how soon should she start looking up? should i be really worried that she’s sleeping so much and not as responsive when resting? im going to make sure she eats every couple/few hours and i check on her every few minutes when im awake, i haven’t left her side. any input please, the vet couldn’t tell me a whole lot and its so hard not knowing what could be going on. thanks

edit: i forgot to mention i have a male cat who is acting normal and my cats have been exposed to my upstairs neighbours 2 cats, both female.

Joint injections for a torn CCL in my very hyper doggo.

So two months ago my dog started limping out of nowhere after some light playing, never yelped or anything so gave it a couple weeks before going to the vet. We take her in and he was pretty sure she had torn her CCL and sent us home with some medication and wanted us to come back in in two weeks to check it again and then look at having surgery. Well conveniently we were home because we got married and we were leaving for our honeymoon that week and not returning back home because we work on the road. So we followed his instructions on really babying the leg and taking this medication til we could get in a vet where we work at. Today we went to this vet and she immediately said the CCL is torn (didn’t say partial or total) and said we could do some different injections before committing to surgery. She didn’t love the idea of doing surgery on her unless we could commit to the full 8-12 weeks of constant watch. She’s an ACD so you know she’s chaos. I can’t for the life of me remember the one she most recommended, she compared it to cortisone injection, or the PRP. She suggested the first choice so we are going to give it a whirl but I feel like this so just going to make her more comfortable and maybe buy us sometime for surgery? I really would feel much more comfortable having her surgery at our primary vet clinic but we won’t be back there til Christmas time, which also we will have two weeks off of work to be able to really start strong with the healing process. So I suppose if that’s all it does then that’s helpful? Or am I totally wrong and need to abandon this.

Prozac and subaortic stenosis

• Upvotes

My 17 month golden retriever was just diagnosed with a grade 2 murmur and subaortic stenosis. I was told it was mild, velocity is 2.43. She also had mild regurgitation.

She is VERY anxious and reactive. To any little noise. I've been working with trainers etc and while I've been able to get her recovery time down its not enough. Storms are the worst and right now it storms daily where we live.

My vet wants her on prozac but this was before her sas diagnosis. I asked the cardiologist about it and she said it was fine but changed the subject quickly.

Is prozac safe for dogs with sas? Or is there another recommended anxiety med? She spends most of her day stressed out and I don't want anxiety to affect her heart.

What can I do to help my cat with no specific problem

• Upvotes

Hello!!
My baby is Ambi (4.5 years)

In march, suddenly our other baby, Pixie passed away (they were together not bonded for 4 years). That broke us all and him too. He kept looking for her constantly and would leave her spot for him in the patio they used to hang out in.

I know he has been stressing out a lot. We also had to move a lot. From Meghalaya to Chandigarh (my grandparents home which he loves) to New Delhi, India in 3 months only. And we can he doesn't really like the place.

We took him to the vet because he was peeing barely once a day outside his litter box. The vet diagnosed him with depression and idiopathic cystitis. He also had an antibiotic course of 7 days. We did ultrasounds, urinary and blood tests, but there was nothing found really. The doc said that he has urinary issues when he's stressed but there is no UTI or bladder issue. We think that he doesn't like being alone and these problems often happen when we have to go somewhere for a few hours.

Whatever medicine he is given works for a few days and then we're back to square one of him having problems.

If there isn't a good medicine available for him in India or if it's too expensive, can we get something better in Canada? I am an international student.

We were told to give him Royal Canine Urinary S/O food but he doesn't like them at all. He either doesn't eat or his tummy gets very upset, which leads to dehydration and all those problems all over again.

Just for the record, he is not having any behavioural or physical health problems (not in pain or showing any discomfort with anything).

We don't know what kind of supplement or medicine we should give him for that. Is there anything we can do for my baby boy to help him pass urine comfortably?

Note: I have my family's support for vet and other stuff.

TLDR: My cat is having urinary issues (since 3 months) without a cause necessarily and we don't know what to do because there is no kidney or bladder issue and medicines aren't really working either. What should we do or give him?

My dog ate coffee beans

• Upvotes

My cattle dog mix (50lbs) got into and ate a small handful (10-15 max) of coffee beans around 6pm yesterday. She was fine overnight but today has been restless and drinking a ton of water. She is otherwise fine. Is this something we can just monitor over the next day or 2 or is the excessive thirst a sign of something worse to come?

Extra info, she’s on a low dose (10mg daily) of prednisone which has caused her to already be drinking more water.

Chemo Litter Box Protocol

• Upvotes

Our 4 yo Stevie-girl (spayed Siberian Forest Cat) was diagnosed with large cell gastrointestinal lymphoma and we started chemo this week (CHOP). While some sources say to quarantine cats 48-72 hours after treatment to their own litter box in multi cat households, our vet was okay with us having both cats use the same litter box as long as it is regularly cleaned. We double lined the litter boxes and will be scooping twice a day with a dedicated chemo scoop and disposing of waste in double bagged bags for this time period. After the 48-72 hours, we will completely clean the litter boxes and place fresh litter in them. We also bought masks and gloves while handling and got chlorox wipes to wipe down the area when litter escapes the box. Does this sound like a good protocol? We love our other kitty but want good quality of life for Stevie and I couldn’t bare having to shut her away for 2-3 days after chemo

Vet tipped cat out basket

I am trying to gather whether I’m overreacting to a horrible experience with an emergency vet. we brought our cat in and explained they couldn’t walk due to lame back legs. Cat was 20 years old and this was told to vet along with their CKD history

Cat was in a basket with a front door and the basket had option to remove lid. This is what every vet we’ve seen does.

this vet grabbed the basket and tipped it at an almost 90 degree angle to get the cat out the front door. he had no idea which way the cat was even facing.

considering it had been made clear the cat was struggling to walk I find this very odd.

is there a reason a vet might do this? We’d never seen this person before. I feel the need to complain as this felt like such inhumane treatment for a cat this old with the problems we detailed. Too boot she died less than 24 hours later.

Rash around face and mouth, emergency?

Background information: I have a kitten about 7-8 weeks old. I got her from a lady that found her in a barn. She has been through her first check up, a dewormer, gotten over a respiratory infection, and began her vaccines thus far. I have a follow up appointment next Tuesday to check in on her and make sure she’s doing alright. I’m located in Nebraska USA and have access to a good vet. She’s not yet been spayed, but plans are made.

My current problem is that, starting Monday, I’ve noticed a rash around her mouth. At first it was very small and when I called my vet she thought it may be acne so we agreed to wait for her appointment next week. Over the past few days it has spread out around her whisker area and down her neck. The affected skin is pink with black dots and looks like some dried puss near the edges. The hair in the area has stopped growing. She has not shown any discomfort and isn’t itching badly. She allows me to handle and touch her head.

I am going to call the vet again tomorrow, but I am worried this is something I may need to take her to emergency services for. I’m also worried as I have other animals in the house. They have interacted briefly this week while supervised, but generally she is confined away in my room.

Any help on what this may be or how much of an emergency I am looking at would be very helpful.

Her name is Togepi

Pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), urinary tract infection (UTI), and high triglycerides.

Hi,

Patient History: 9-year-old female cat.

Underlying Condition: Chronic IBD managed with prednisolone drops (previously stable).

Timeline:

Oct 3: Onset of acute abdominal pain, vomiting, and lethargy (laying in litter box). Administered IV medications and blood work at vet clinic. Lipase elevated (5.86), confirming pancreatitis.

Oct 6: Ultrasound revealed constipation/stool accumulation, though GI motility was present. Hospitalized for 2 days on IV fluids and parenteral medications. Improved appetite and behavior during hospitalization.

Oct 9: Developed a fever (39.9°C / 103.8°F). Received antipyretics/medication at vet clinic.

Oct 10–Present: Persistent anorexia/hyporexia. Second opinion vet diagnosed a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) via urinalysis. Shows brief improvement post-injection, but appetite drops significantly at home. Syringe/assisted feeding is currently being used to administer medications safely.

Thank

Need advice about cat’s raw nose

She has had a raw looking nose that hasn’t improved. It bleeds looks like it’s been scratched. I can’t really afford a vet visit at the moment. Otherwise she’s eating fine and I’ve given her zymox topical cream but she licks it off..any advice on what it might be? A possibility is allergies? I’m honestly not sure. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Mysterious inflammation in corner of dogs mouth.

My dog has had a recurring issue where a corner of her mouth puffs up like its inflammed, and its definitely mildly irritating to her because she occasionally scratches at it which i belive makes it worse. In the past, after having done some research on it, I concluded it was due to feeding her from a metal bowl, at which time I switched her to plastic and after about a week the inflammation was gone (I was also applying a small amount of colloidal oatmeal right before feeding her so that she would be distracted when eating to allow the cream to dry). But now after nearly a year the issue has come back and I can only seem to minimize it with the help of the colloidal oatmeal. We moved from Germany to the states about 3 weeks ago, She does have allergies, and I was consistently getting her cytopoint injections about once every three months or so, but it has been quite a bit longer since her last one and I haven't had the time to register her with a vet clinic at our new home. Could it be allergies? Has anyone here had any experience with this issue, and if so what helped and what made it worse?

13 1/2 yr old dog with complicated medical history - requesting opinion from vets re: anesthsia

Hi there, bit of a long-winded post but I am seeking advice for a family member's dog. And asking for no judgement, things have been very challenging for them.

He is a 13 1/2 year old dog who has experienced seizures since he was a puppy, has never been medicated for them, and they have varied in frequency. Notably, he has had only one since June and previously seemed to have one every 4-6 weeks, from which he recovers quickly.

In June, he was diagnosed with a grade 4 heart murmur, and his pro bnp came back elevated at 1,172. His blood work was otherwise okay given his age, but triglycerides were also elevated.

For years he's had some kind of trachea issue (not sure how this was diagnosed) but had been on steroids for a long time, until an alternative natural product was recommended and helped... Until June, when it was no longer enough.

The vet is now thinking the trachea issue might be related to him needing a dental cleaning (explained as an inflammatory response). And there's no denying he needs a dental cleaning. The vet, however, is nervous about putting him out for too long (which I can understand). They want to put him out for the cleaning and then put him out a second time, for any extractions. Does this feel like the right approach? What if he doesn't fare well the first time and can't undergo it a second time? It would feel devastating to not be able to complete all of the work (he likely needs extractions). Two dentals back to back feels like a lot for a dog his age with a grade 4 heart murmur. One feels like a big enough risk.

A note re the trachea issue: he basically has little choking fits, and the only thing that has helped has been antibiotics.

Thoughts?

My Kittens keep getting sick.

I need advice.

We have kittens we been taken care of since birth. Ferral mom and her kittens have all came inside as of a couple weeks ago. They were kept in a safe secure spot where only we and momma cat could access. On camera and everything.

Out of 8 females, 2 have died from nuroligical symptoms.

Runt died within a 2-3 weeks or so at birth.

I got them to the vet every time.

The last one that passed a month ago randomly developed wobbley cat syndrome & then passed away at vet when she was found after a seizure with blood coming out of her mouth.

Fast forward to now, another Kitten whove we got attached to is now struggling to walk on her back legs as of last night. Shes falling over doing the same thing again.

I took her to VET hospital last night and they found an ulcer in her throat but that was it. They tested for Feline panleukopenia virus and it was negative. Because her personality was decent they gave us pain meds and to call if things get worse.

They just dont know what to test for they said.

They said it could get better or could get worst. And its getting worse. Qe dont know what's wrong with this litter and why all the other cats at the appartment havent had to deal with any of this.

They said it could be incest, unknown infections, ect.

Has anybody else gone through this ? Healthy kittens randomly getting wobbly then dying.

What should I pay for test to run. I asked about the cat aids one and the other one but they said they didnt think it was necessary! Maybe they were trying to get me discharged or they were tired but this is absolutely heartbreaking man.

This cat was healthy 2 days ago it seemed.

I dont know about the ulcer in her throat, I dont know about the wobbling now.

Can someone point me in right direction. I posted the video on the feral cat sub..

almost 9 year old dog, just diagnosed with high grade splenic stromal sarcoma

9-year-old dog diagnosed with a grade 3 sarcoma after her 3rd abdominal surgery. Looking for advice on treatment and outcomes.

Raven: almost 9, spayed female Lab/shepherd mix, ~ 70 lbs

History

June 2025: A 13 cm mass on her spleen plus enlarged lymph nodes. She had a splenectomy, and pathology came back benign (a hematoma).

April 2026: An 8 cm mass grew where her spleen used to be. The first pathology read suggested lymphoma, but further testing (immunohistochemistry and PCR) ruled that out. The final diagnosis was a benign, reactive lymph node. She also has a ~3 cm right adrenal mass we're monitoring, which has stayed fairly stable.

October 2026: Ultrasound showed two new masses in the same area. Both were removed on Oct 12. A suspected liver mass seen on ultrasound wasn't found during surgery. Chest X-rays before surgery were clear.
Biopsy results (reviewed by 3 board-certified pathologists)
Larger mass: high-grade (grade 3) sarcoma, likely a splenic stromal sarcoma. They believe it grew from leftover spleen tissue (ectopic spleen) left behind after the splenectomy.
Mitotic count over 20: a measure of how fast the cells are dividing, which makes it fast-growing.
Smaller mass: benign nodular hyperplasia, also in leftover spleen tissue.
Margins were clean on both: the masses were fully removed.
Plan: Her surgeon and his oncology colleague are both recommend chemo. We have an oncology consult coming up.

Questions
Has anyone dealt with splenic stromal sarcoma, or a sarcoma growing from leftover spleen tissue? How did your dog or patient do?
For a high-grade sarcoma that was fully removed with no visible spread, did you do suggest chemo (IV doxorubicin or low-dose oral)? How did your dog/patient tolerate it, and did it seem to help?
Did you recommend a CT scan for staging beyond chest X-rays?
Has anyone used turkey tail or other supplements alongside chemo?

4 yr old cat lost a fang?

I found a tooth and checked my younger cat first but he had all of them then checked my 4 yr old one and sure enough one of his fangs is missing. Is this something I should be worried about? is it normal?

I haven't noticed any problems with eating, drinking, and as far as I can tell his gums look fine but I'm not an expert. I've had a lot of stressful shit happen the past few months and money is extremely tight rn so a vet appt rn sounds stressful especially because the one person I can think of who wouldn't mind taking him to the vet with me is very much unavailable for lack of a better word. But I can and will figure something out if I need to

can cat acne cause a swollen bottom lip

so i started my cat had a some cat acne but it was mild so i thought it would go away and now its gking downhill.

last week i noticed a scab by his mouth so i made sure he stopped rubbing his face on everything ( we just moved so hes been rubbing himself on everything and inspecting the house) so now his scab is finally healing

then today when i came home from work i noticed that he has a swollen bottom lip :( do these two things correlate?

he currently does have a plastic water fountain but i just ordered him a stainless steel one and some chlorhexidine wipes. he currently has ceramic bowls but i need to do better with cleaning his kibble bowl because he does go and lick it even though its empty. is there anything else i can do for him?
