Do you still like to look at maps, atlases and/or globes?

Post image

Since we all use our phones to get driving directions, I'm wondering if many people still like to look at maps, atlases and globes? I actually really like to look at maps for some reason. I like to see where things are relative to each other or what latitude certain places are at or how isolated places are. I can get lost looking at maps and atlases and I have a globe on my coffee table bc I just like to look at it and explore it.

Anyone else feel the same?

Humourous What company in your country is most likely to become a real life BnL from WALL-E?

My first guess is Yandex. Yandex search engine is the most popular in Russia and this company has best taxi and food delivery services. They’re even produce underwear, sportswear, furniture, TVs, etc.

I think that’s a pretty solid foundation for something like BnL.
So, what’s the BnL of your country?

What is your local urban legend?

One local urban legend from Japan is the giant torii gate at Haneda Airport in Tokyo.
It originally belonged to Anamori Inari Shrine, which stood on the land that later became the airport. After WWII, the shrine was forced to move, but the torii was left behind.
According to the legend, attempts to remove it resulted in accidents and other misfortunes, leading to rumors that the torii was cursed. It was eventually relocated rather than demolished, and still stands near Haneda Airport today.
There’s no evidence that it was actually cursed, but the story is pretty famous in Japan.

Politics If your country has (fair) elections, name a very competitive province/(swing) state/prefecture that candidates/parties often campaign on? Perhaps is this known for area decide the winner or has the bigger population?

Post image

In Indonesia, we don't have a swing state nor any of our provinces are officially known as swing provinces.

But if anyone ask if there is a very competitive province to win a presidential election, it would be East Java. Throughout our presidential election history, many candidates focus on East java, and it is known that if a candidate wins East Java, they win the election. Other reasons why East Java is quite competitive because it has a bit of balance of religiousness but also traditional (non-religious) culture and tolerance, so for any candidate or camp to win this province is going to take a big effort.

Jakarta is a close 2nd, because it is the capital and economic special province. If anyone from Indonesia wants to correct this, feel free.

So what about your country? If you have an election, is there a province, state, prefecture, or area in your country that is very competitive for a candidate or political party to win? If so, why?

And please, if you know or believe your country has no elections, let alone a fair one, don't bother to answer or comment.
