Health & Medical Can anyone recommend an elite physio, S&C coach, or mobility specialist in Ireland?

• Upvotes

I’m based in Leinster and looking for recommendations for a physio, strength & conditioning coach, or mobility specialist who can help build a practical training programme around some ongoing shoulder, neck, and hip mobility issues. I’ve already seen a couple of physios and had imaging, so I’m not looking for a diagnosis or any medical advice. Just someone experienced with rehab-informed strength training, posture/mobility work, and programming around niggles. Preferably anyone informed on pliability

Online coaching could work too. Can anyone recommend someone they’ve had a good experience with?

Shopping Best cold smoked salmon to get as a gift?

I'm going to the US to visit family for Christmas and want to bring them cold smoked salmon. They love it but I never had it much myself outside of what you can get at Tesco or Dunnes. Does anyone have a recommendation of a place that does really nice smoked salmon?

Health & Medical Chronic Neck Pain Advice?

• Upvotes

I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck with physio for chronic neck pain?

I've gone to physio maybe 5 or 6 years ago, tried a few and spent a lot of time doing what was advised on top of a lot of money. I never had any luck. Did some scans too and everything looked fine.

Since then my neck pain has persisted but I could live with it. Just recently I did something that caused a spasm/muscle strain and its been in a really bad way for over 2 weeks.

I'm torn between more physio or whether this needs the medical route. Any advice from people in similar situation would be greatly appreciated as I'm feeling quite down about the prospects and possibly having to live like this...

Just to add a few details: my pain never came from one injury and developed as I aged, but i subsequently injured my neck in 2019 and now again recently both which compounded my issues. My pain has generally been manageable but with heavily reduced mobility - a lot of pain when i make certain movements.

Random Anyone see this light this morning?

Post image
• Upvotes

We were travelling from Wexford to Wicklow this morning around 7:45am and noticed this very bright light near the sunrise. Over about the next 15 minutes it rose at a consistent speed into the sky until it disappeared.

Anyone else see it or know what it was?

Shopping Anyone else still waiting for an iPhone 18 Pro Max pre-order from Harvey Norman Ireland?

• Upvotes

Anyone else still waiting for an iPhone 18 Pro Max pre-order from Harvey Norman Ireland?

I pre-ordered mine at Harvey Norman Sligo on 12 September and paid in advance.

It's now been 35 days, and they still can't provide even an estimated delivery date.

Meanwhile, I know people who have already bought theirs elsewhere, some apparently without even pre-ordering.

The store staff have been helpful, but apparently Harvey Norman is massively behind on pre-orders across Ireland.

I'm genuinely disappointed. What's the point of pre-ordering and paying upfront if you're still waiting over a month later with no delivery estimate?

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Particularly interested in hearing from people who ordered through Harvey Norman or managed to buy one from another Irish retailer after launch.

I'm starting to wonder whether I made a mistake choosing Harvey Norman in the first place.

Serious Replies Only Anyone else in 30's in a shit job?

• Upvotes

I am 36, living at home. I lived on my own for years, but landlord sold and had to move back. I have savings as I basically don't have much of a life outside work, as I have mental health problems. Basically have not been able to advance career, due to having social anxiety and probably autism, so im stuck earning like 36k a year in a shitty job.

Im trying to manuvere my way out of this, but its grim and bleak and not sure what to do.

I don't see many others in a similar position than me, anyone else in a similar boat?

Serious Replies Only Big family gathering for a memorial. Could someone hijack it for a birthday celebration?

• Upvotes

My mum died suddenly this year and her family are having a big get together for her birthday soon. Lots of aunts, uncles and cousins travelling for a night together. It’s supposed to be a sort of memorial type dinner. Or we’re meeting in her honour. She didn’t get to have a 60th because of Covid. They’re a big family and love get togethers and parties. However none of those parties were ever for my mum. She always felt a bit left out. I’m a bit worried that because it’s one of her siblings birthdays around the same time they might turn it in to a party for them too. Like “sure we’re all here now, may as well celebrate so and so”. Kill two birds with one stone.

While I don’t think it should be a somber affair or anything I just think it would break me and my dad to have a birthday cake pulled out and everyone singing happy birthday for someone else when she doesn’t get to celebrate hers. I know life goes on. But I just feel it would be a bit disrespectful to her memory to have something meant to celebrate her turn in to a party for someone else. It’s already going to be such a hard time for us. We can’t cancel our booking now.

Should I say something to someone or would I sound like a dick and end of making people feel on tender hooks. She was the first to go so there’s no precedent for how people may behave. None of the cousins have lost parents. I dunno maybe I’m over thinking it. Can anyone advise if I should say something to someone or give advice on how to just get over it so I’m not spoiling it for others.

Edit: just to add it was another sibling who has organised this event so it’s completely out of our control.

Relationships Can anything bedone about an elderly person hoarding dogs?

A friend of mine is a woman in her 70s. She lives alone and still works although she's planning to retire soon. Her house is a bit messy but overall I can't see any argument that she's not able to function.

But she keeps getting more dogs. She's a bit secretive about it but I'm fairly certain she currently has 14 dogs. Six big and eight small ones. She recently had one put down for aggression but has since picked up two more.

At one point I actually took one of her dogs (at her request) and he is doing well now. She told me it was because he was too big for her (he was medium sized) but then she went and bought a German shepherd.

She is constantly stressed and I know the dogs don't get the life they deserve. They are all nervous and under socialised and some of them are terrified of people.

I don't think there's anything I can legally do but just wondering if I'm missing something. I don't want to annoy her - currently I'm in a place where she sometimes takes my advice or lets me help with a dog so I don't want to risk that.

Health & Medical For those of you who have had a termination in Ireland, what was your experience like?

I had a termination outside of Ireland and of course it was a difficult situation , but looking back it was the best decision I could have made for my life and I have zero regrets. Over the years I never faced any depressio n or guilt about the procedure, but there’s stigma around terminations which affected me negatively.

Edit: I had to use “termination” to bypass the moderation. My posts using the real word were automatically deleted. Sadly even on this platform, the topic is taboo.

Am I The Gobshite? What kind of non-self-employed jobs get you a company credit card?

All these D4 jokes about using the company credit card on lavish nights away or buying a car I just don't get. Are there actually jobs that let you spend company money with your own dedicated card?

Random Why do Kingfisher and Amble get so much hate?

It seems like these two come in for a lot of hate both online and with people I talk to in person and I don’t really get it.

I get a lot of it seemed to be aimed at that one song Killagh but after listen to both of their EPs/album Im not sure where the level of hate is coming from.

ive always been big fans of the likes of James Vincent McMorrow, Damien Rice, Paddy Casey and the music feels like it falls within the same range so perhaps I’m being bias.

But any time I see a mention of Amble or Kingfisher they seem to be getting clowned by everyone, despite them getting booked for gig afyer gig.

can anyone explain the hate?

Tech Support Re-capping old audio equipment specialist?

Long shot, but does anyone know a good electronics specialist. I've got an old 90s Onkyo Integra stackable system, and the FM tuner needs to be re-capped and potentially the discriminator coil adjusted. I remember seeing a guy on Adverts that does this, but can't find the ads anymore..

Work Any independent hotels to work?

I'm looking for a part time job and due to my schedule an option that I'm considering is working at night, I have hospitality experience so I was thinking of working as a night auditor or front desk clerk in a hotel. I've noticed that some hotels in Dublin are international chain hotels like Hilton, Hyatt or Marriott where their hiring process tends to be a bit long and cumbersome, so I was thinking are there any independent or local chain hotels where I could apply to work for this position? Especially looking at City Center area or South Dublin, any leads are greatly appreciated.

Work Isn't it unusual that starting salary for hospital nursing is significantly lower than teaching in a public sector?

No seriously. The salary per year is not a couple of hundreds in difference. But a good few thousands.

One would imagine they would be roughly the same. Or opposite.

Sure teaching has academics, patience, working with kids, legal consequences of things going wrong etc.

But in nursing you have insane shifts, high stress, serious legal burden, actual risk to life, etc.

Massive difference in holidays.

Housing Garda clearance - Previous addresses help?

For context I'm 55 and bought my current house about 15 years ago and rented for many years before then in many places. I have long lost the exact house/apartment numbers of the places i have lived previously bar the last two or so, never mind the dates or even exact years i lived there.

The only thing i can think of where this might be recorded is the Revenue, could i ask them for a list of places and dates associated with my PPS number?

How strict are the Gardai with this for their background checks?

Sport Stephen Bradley...school bully vibes?

What do people think of him? I always got the impression he was one of those "im in the cool gang from school" vibes off him and id put money on him being a school bully back in the day.

He seems incredibly thin skinned. Part of being a manager is to take constructive criticism or if its not constructive then take it with a pinch of salt and be adult about it. Anyone who criticises him gets a nasty rebuttal most of the time and now Alan Reynolds who is well able for him, announced he was running his mouth off after the recent Bohs game. It will be interesting to see if Bradley can take it on the chin or will he revert to his usual immature response.

Anyone know him, what's your take on him?

Random UFOs in Ireland?

Okay so there’s a lot of hype and talk at the minute in USA about the release of information that there is NHI(non human intelligence) here on earth and not just one species but multiple.

We’ve been drip fed info such as videos, files and interviews with actual high ranking decorated military personnel for a few years now.

Obviously a lot of this is to do with USA. Has anyone in Ireland or from Ireland ever experienced something strange like a UFO, entity etc.

Don’t call me tinfoil hat because at this stage if you actually research it it’s becoming clear there is something going on.

My one and only claim was seeing 2/3 satellites shaped objects moving way above in the atmosphere around 7/8 years back with my mate out his back. The moved extremely fast and then would stop instantly. They moving in another direction instantly. Never seen physics like that before and we were both amazed.

Have you a story?

Education How can I switch from an electrical apprenticeship to an E&I apprenticeship?

I recently got registered as an electrician apprentice, but im now thinking of switching to E&I. If I do it, does the time I've done as an electrician apprentice count toward the E&I apprenticeship at all? Or will I have to completely restart the apprenticeship process?
