Textile Crafts Making a Scrap Wool Jumper, from scraps to almost finished [8:19]

I was hoping to see the final product at the end but she hasn't *quite* finished yet! OP is [this account](https://seetiktok.com/@crafts_of_ireland) and their website [is here](https://craftsofireland.ie/). I'm not affiliated with them, I just like to credit properly.

I love that they offer workshops because how sad would it be if all this equipment didn't get used all the time‽ Such specialized machinery!

I love the twirl at the end. Got a kiddo who makes some of their own clothes and the spin around is very important!

A) I’m super jealous of her drum carder
B) I’m feeling compelled to get my wheel out
C) does anyone recognize the cast on she’s using?

I didn't even realize there were different ways to cast on!

I absolutely want a chunky cardigan made of this.

Any help?

What, you cannot replicate it from this very clear video of the process 😆 I know what you mean though! My first suggestion would be to have a look at thrift stores. Even if you find a wool jumper that needs some mending, that can be a great place to start! /r/visiblemending has some amazing ideas. This is the most cost effective way to get a wool jumper in my experience.

If you want something new, I included their website in my caption (not sure if they have a store there?) or you could look at your local artisans and see who takes commissions on wool jumpers ($$$!!!).

The most accessible part of the process to do yourself is the knitting and then you can customize it however you want. It's probably possible to buy yarn made from scrap wool like this but I've never tried.

Hedgehog Fibers sells tweed made from recycled wool. They call that line Tweedy.

Dumb question- what’s the point in going from bobbin to skein back to a bobbin? Couldn’t she have taken the bobbin of double yarn and wound it right onto the white bobbin and cut out the whole handheld frame step?

You can absolutely go from the plied bobbin to the cake winder but transferring first to the niddy noddy gives you a chance to wash the yarn to set the twist.

Also it helps you measure the length of the yarn (she mentions her niddy noddy is 2 yards) so if she’s trying to do some math of how much she needs it would help there.

It’s called a niddy-noddy??? Amazing. Thank you for the helpful info. Can you tell I watched it with no sound last night

I assume because she wanted to wash the wool, it needed to be longer and thinner so it was easier to wash and dry

That washing also sets the twist so it doesn’t come undone while you knit

What cast on method is she using?

Would this also work with cats fur? Asking for a friend

If it's not a short hair it should work. Apparently it's a very soft yarn.

Otherwise short cat hair can be made into felt and then into a hat or so.

Blending shorter hairs with something longer like merino woks too. I did this with the undercoat of my first pup and made a cardigan out of it

r/Handspinning would love this, if it hasn't been posted there already.

The world needs more of this. Fascinating watch. Feels kind of meditative doing all that work.
