I don't know if it is genuine stingray leather or not but it surely looks like it.

I need to figure out if I can do something differently. I am using thumb draw with a Korean male thumb ring and pine arrows if that helps.

Glove or Tab? I Present: The Glab

Background: I have a very wonky index fingertip after a break set badly years ago, so a thick and tight glove normally works best for that finger. Unfortunately the rest of my hand much prefers a tab from both consistency and comfort standpoints. After looking for a solution for a while I finally caved and made what I nicknamed the glab. I've been shooting with it for a little while now with decent success but I can't shake the feeling that it's a terrible idea! Can anyone see any glaring issues with using a hybrid setup like this? Really the solution to my finger issue would be to switch to three under or thumb draw but struggled with both.

Modern Barebow Continue as is, or really focus on learning to "drop" the bow?

I've only been doing archery since the start of summer this year, after a bit of "have a go" dabbling and a beginners course I didn't follow up on at university some 15 years ago.

My handicap and general scoring has been doing really well and improving quite rapidly (already got my 252s for 20 and 30 yards, practicing a Portsmouth ready for the indoor season has me scoring around 465-485 at the moment, hoping to beat 500 once indoors without wind and sun glare!).

My coach is generally very happy with my form, but keeps reminding me that I'm not keeping my hand relaxed enough to "drop" the bow and trust my finger sling. I can do it with a practice shot trainer, but not a real bow.

When I consciously try, my aim is suddenly AWFUL, and I think because it's then suddenly relaxed to an instinct to grip it I'm not overriding successfully, it's more jerky than just a very light grip that doesn't relax fully (if that makes sense).

I don't want to drill in bad habits if this is something I should be urgently training myself to fix, but I also really don't like the feeling of letting it go or fighting myself so hard I can't think about the rest of my form.

Am I best to ignore all scoring and the approaching winter season competitions to focus on getting this right, or does it not matter urgently /something that will gradually fix itself in the grand scheme of things?

Help with arrows

Currently I am shooting a Hoyt Charger at 70 pounds with a 29.5 inch draw, I am currently using an arrow that comes in at around 385 grains with broad heads and everything on. After doing some research I have gotten some suggestions to go up to around 440-475 grains. Is this something that I should do or would 385 grains be okay? Thank you for any help in advance and hope everyone participating in the Archery whitetail season is having a good season so far! FYI THIS IS A HUNTING SET UP NOT TARGET, THANK YOU!

Newbie Question What arrows to buy

Hi everyone, next month I'll be buying my first Olympic Recurve Bow, I'm from Argentina and I've been recommended PRANA, I'm buying a TD6 model (in case someone knows of it), and I don't know at all if any kind of arrow goes with any kind of bow. Like absolutely 0 idea.

Anyone could nudge me in what to buy and difference between arrows and stuff?

Thanks a lot!

Danage of Scandinavia for sale?

heard a rumour last night that boss makers Danage of Scandinavia is looking for a buyer. The source is not prone to gossip. He said that there potentially 2 interested parties - one german one danish - but I cant find anything.
Its become very difficult to get danage bosses all of a sudden (I'm in the UK) so wondering if its connected.

Anybody heard anything about this? any info appreciated.

Newbie Question (help) Question about arrow alignment

Hello everyine, I have a takedown recurve bow, and i´m using an arrow rest as the one in the picture.
I also have been reading about the archer paradox and im really confused about the arrow alignment respecting the riser.

In this type of riser and arrow rest, the arrow isn´t supposed to be parallel from the riser, aligned with the string? how do i tune the position of the rest?

Thanks a lot

Traditional Help with form and arrow fitting

I noticed that my hoesebow arrows were hitting my bow upon release causing damage to the arrow pass. The bow and the arrow details were mentioned in this post

https://www.reddit.com/r/TraditionalArchery/s/CJMss2Qpq2

Specifications:

Its an Imperial Kheshig

I use thumb draw.

Minimal to no side khatra.

32lbs bow at 28 inches draw weight.

My draw length is about 27 inches.

Arrow details

Length: 30 inches

100 gr points

500 spine

4 fleched

The 500 spine arrows were suggested by the people at Alibow for this configuration. I contacted them when I noticed the arrows hitting the bow, they said they still stand by the 500 spine choice and it's possibly my draw that's wrong.

Upon the suggestions of some people I recorded myself from a top angle with my 500 spine arrows and 600 spine arrows.

Link to the videos:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Jm-YLc00UXuLk2fXffq13faiTPsMxQqJ

I noticed the following:

  1. I am tending to bend my wrist while drawing. I know it needs to be relaxed and in a straight line with the elbow and arrow.

  2. I also think my elbow of the draw hand is not fully in line with my arrow (it seems to me like it's flared out to the right or in front of my torso a little bit) to use back tension, I'm probably using my arm muscles to shoot.

  3. The 500 spine arrow (length 30 inches, brown arrow from the video) is hitting the bow on the arrow pass when it's half away out of the bow. The 600 spine arrow (length 31 inches, black arrow from the video) is hitting the bow near its end or near its fletching. In the video I was deliberately not performing any khatra to exaggerate or show the arrow hitting issue.

Questions

  1. Do you agree with my observations above?

  2. Are my arrows too long for my draw length (about 27 inches) and is that why they're hitting the bow?

  3. Am I not drawing to my full potential draw length due my elbow not being in line and me not loading back tension?

  4. Am I drawing too much into my face for the anchor, I wonder if that's causing the bend in my wrist? I am possibly leading the draw with my wrist and arms instead of leading by moving my elbow in an arc around my torso.

I do not have any formal training, I am trying to learn on my own. I appreciate any help or insights. Thanks in advance.

Arrows Help with choosing arrow shaft spine

Hello everyone,

I have to buy new arrows and i don't know how to choose the spine, also I shoul say that i use a riser clicker and I will have to cut the shafts to my desire length.
I know this table exist, but I don't know how to use it BECAUSE I will cut them.
¿Should I look at this table depending on the final length of the arrow after I cut them? or ¿Should I look at it using my draw?

I will use a recurve bow of 24 punds or a little bit more.

Thank you in advance

Tuning with cheap equipment and before solid form?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

TL;DR: How useful is it to tune your set up on cheaper equipment and before you have solid form?

I've been shooting for about six months now and my coach is saying my gear is limiting my shooting potential. To an extent I agree: I'm using cheapish gear and my sight doesn't adjust left or right because the pin was bent. But I still think I can tune the bow before I absolutely need to upgrade. (And also because I don't have the money.) I haven't really tuned anything at all except for sight adjustments.

I also feel like my form is still not solid. He's been complimenting my form (the video above is the most recent) but I still catch myself making small mistakes every now and then.

The riser is an Akusta Power, limbs are long Wns Explore B1 32#. Avalon sight with a rod clicker. Stabalizers are a mishmash of whatever was extra at the club house.

Also in terms of tuning what should I prioritize?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Modern Barebow Bow arm shoulder pain

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Newbie archer, started 2 weeks ago after watching a bunch of videos on form. I have a range on the way to my office, so I was getting a quick 30mn session before work 3 days a week. Things were going well and I felt like I was slowly getting better.

Yesterday though I started feeling some pain in my bow arm shoulder, so I skipped practice. I went today and took it easy, and decided to video tape myself to see if there was something very wrong with my form. After today's session my shoulder felt a little tender, so I will definitely take a few days off (and go see a doctor if it doesn't improve).

In the meantime any feedback on my form which could cause that pain is welcome - I think I might be lifting my shoulder after getting to full draw?

Hunting Advice

Im not looking for hate im just a guy whos looking to harvest bigger bucks instead of whatever has antlers. Picture on the left is the first buck this year in that area. Ive had many Mature deer in this spot but could never get them out during daylight. He came in earlier right after 0100 and stayed for 20 minutes, then came back to the time stamp on the picture. Buck on the right has been on and off. This was the first picture I got of him. He came in again on the 5th of October and I havent seen him since. There is a cold front moving in tomorrow night and I wanna take advantage of it. Im in Northern Wisconsin. Based on the knowledge I gave you what spot would you sit. I have a mock scrape at both spots just poured Golden Scrape right in the scrape. I do throw bait out (should give you more of an idea of where im at) I have not been back to either site since Monday to my understanding this weekend its pre rut. Rut should kick off next weekend. Im just looking to harvest a nice buck. I spend all the downtime I have in the woods. I have bucks that make there scrapes and rubs all over my site but I never see them. I take scent control as serious as I can. I bought a tarsal gland to see if I cant stir up the woods when I sit. Ive been watching nice bucks come and go on my cameras for years. Missed an opportunity on a really nice 8 last year I first started watching in 2024. I just wasnt in the stand. Not daylight but dusk. What do I do. I need tips. What stand do I hunt tomorrow?

Dimensions of the Hoyt Concept XTS 37

Hi everyone!

I'm interested in finding out the exact overall dimensions of the new Hoyt Concept XTS 37, as I need them to find a suitable case for my bow. In particular, I'd love to know the total length measured from the outermost end of the top cam to the outermost end of the bottom cam, as well as the maximum width and overall height of the bow.

Does anyone here already own one and would be willing to measure it?

Thanks in advance for any help or information!

Hunting Looking for advice!

Hey y’all,

Just got into hunting whitetail this year and decided to go the bow route! I went to my local bow shop and got setup with a sage galaxy and some black eagle vintage arrows, but I have some questions about my setup.

The bow is 40lb and the arrows have a 350 spine and 225 field tips. From what I’ve read online, it seems like this set up is unconventional? I do suspect that they may have over measured my draw length because when they asked me to draw, I pulled back pretty much as far as I could (I don’t think they knew I’m a novice). My draw length is definitely above 28” but not sure by how much.

Before anyone says it, I know 40lb is a lot for a beginner! But I’d still love to know what exactly the deal is with this setup. Thanks!

Keeping the same shot routine on the last arrow of a round

Disclosure: this is the NOVA Archery brand account. This is a discussion about practice, with no product links or sales pitch.

The last arrow of a scoring round can feel very different from the first, especially when a personal best is close. A useful practice idea is to rehearse a complete scoring round and keep the same pre-shot sequence on every arrow, including the final one.

When the score starts creeping into your thoughts, what helps you return to your normal shot process? A short cue, a breathing reset, or something else? It would be interesting to hear how approaches differ between compound, recurve and barebow.

Compound Is 297/300 good enough to justify flying halfway across the world for Vegas?

I've recently gotten back into compound archery after a ~4-year break, and I've been thinking about setting a long-term goal of shooting a perfect 900 at the Vegas Shoot.

My latest practice score was 297/300, which got me wondering how far away I actually am from being ready for Vegas. There's still almost 5 months to prepare, so I feel like there's room for improvement.

The thing is, I'm from Kazakhstan, and traveling all the way to the US is quite expensive. I'd love to experience Vegas, but spending that much money only to lose my chance at a perfect 900 on day one would be pretty disappointing.

I've also been looking into the Compound Flights division, which seems like a good alternative since I'd still have something to compete for even if I drop a few points.

For those who've competed at Vegas, what specific score benchmarks would you aim for before making the trip?

For example, should I be consistently shooting 298–299 in practice? Hitting 300 regularly? Or averaging 895+ over full 90-arrow practice rounds?

And would you recommend starting with Flights at my level, or aiming straight for Championship Compound Open if I can improve enough over the next few months?
