Advice Needed I want to go see a movie alone but I'm scared

My favorite movie (Spirited Away) is playing in theaters this weekend for the 25th anniversary and I have no one to go see it with, so I want to go alone and have a little solo date. Unfortunately, I'm starting to let my anxiety talk me out of it. I just need some words of encouragement!

Venting The outside world is too scary for me

I'm too anxious. Everything causes me severe anxiety and dread.

If I could, I would never, ever leave the house. My ideal life is to be holed up between the same walls. I would have no issue with that at all.

Unfortunately, people need a "job" to survive so, yeah.... I have no choice but to suffer. I often dream of winning the jackpot at the lottery or finding some mysterious source of income just so I wouldn't have to leave the house anymore. Completely unrealistic and dellusional but that's the only dream keeping me sane.

Health Hurricane

• Upvotes

Hurricane just hit Florida and it was way worse than anyone thought. Me and my family are fine, our house is fine. We lost fences and trees just like everyone else. My dad lost everything he had. I already had high anxiety and that night the hurricane hit was the scariest night of my life. I had a panic attack I guess last night while at a restaurant. It seemed to last forever and did not calm down after 30 mins I took half my Ativan but it didn’t do much. I’m so worried all this stress is going to damage my heart. I have been a wreck. I feel like I need to cry but it won’t happen. I just need to vent I guess. I feel silly saying I have ptsd when things could have been a lot worse.

Venting 29M — I'm genuinely scared of my future, and no matter how much I try to stay positive, I just can't

I'm 29 from Chennai,India. I am autistic, and honestly, I'm scared of what my future holds. I've been trying to stay positive, telling myself that things will eventually get better and that I shouldn't worry too much about situations beyond my control. But no matter how much I try, I keep falling back into anxiety, fear, and uncertainty.

I don't know where my life is heading anymore.

My job situation is uncertain because I'm a contractual employee. I don't know what will happen to my employment, whether I'll find something stable, or how I'll manage financially if things don't work out. The thought of having to start over without any guarantee of stability genuinely frightens me.

My personal life isn't where I hoped it would be either. I'm struggling with loneliness, and I wish I had someone with whom I could share my worries, happiness, and everyday experiences. I want companionship, emotional support, and a sense of belonging. But sometimes these things feel so distant that I wonder whether my situation will ever change.

Being autistic makes dealing with uncertainty particularly difficult for me. I tend to overthink situations, imagine different possibilities, and worry about things that haven't even happened yet. I know that not every negative possibility will become reality, but knowing that doesn't automatically make my anxiety disappear. Sometimes my mind just refuses to settle down.

What frustrates me the most is that I genuinely tried to be positive. I've tried reminding myself of the things I've managed to accomplish, focusing on the present, and hoping that the future might be better. But when I look at the uncertainty surrounding my career, personal life, and relationships, I find it difficult to hold on to that optimism.

I'm not expecting a perfect life. I just want some stability, a secure job, meaningful relationships, and the feeling that I have a future worth looking forward to. I don't think those are unreasonable things to want.

Sometimes I feel overwhelmed when I think about getting older while important parts of my life remain unresolved. I see time moving forward, but I don't feel like my life is progressing in the way I hoped. It scares me to think about where I'll be in another few years if things remain the same.

And I'm exhausted from constantly trying to reassure myself that everything will be okay when I genuinely don't know whether it will be.

I'm not writing this because I want people to tell me to think positively or stop worrying. I've already tried doing that. I'm writing this because I'm afraid, emotionally exhausted, and tired of pretending that I have everything under control.

I want to believe that my future will be better than my present. But right now, fear is louder than hope, and I don't know how to quiet it.

Discussion Anyone notice their anxiety get WAY more unbearable over the age of 40? Can't handle it as well as I used to

I was always a nervous wreck when I had to fly anywhere but I always managed to push through and do it anyway.

I've found that since turning 40, it feels like a full blown phobia and I get into total panic at the mere thought of booking tickets. It's so weird I feel like I'm losing my mind.

Anyone else noticed an age correlation? Or maybe I'm just not as resilient as I was a few years ago.

Work/School My life is over

I thought pushing through high school was the right decision, my family made it seem like it was normal. I would wake up every day 4 hours before I was supposed to and I would just lie there, painfully waiting for the sun to peak through my window and my mother to come crashing down the hallway and wake me up. This was the pattern for 2 years between the ages of 15-17, I would go to school, strain though my classes, try to be as small as possible in order not to be caught out of line by my peers who all hated me (for good reason), go to work for a couple hours, come home repeat.

I hallucinated semi regularly at around the one year mark, I would get tension headaches and started shedding hair rapidly. I stepped out onto an open road on accident. When I mentioned this to my mother and/or sister they would just assume it was normal teenage stress, and I had no reason not to believe them, so I kept going.

I subconsciously knew what I was doing to my brain, but it didn't seem real during it, I felt like dropping out for a TAFE course was admitting I was what they all thought I was and so I kept going. I managed to rank near the highest in most of my classes, getting by by writing all the variables and steps on my paper in maths and physics, but my anxiety and by proxy my sleep kept getting worse. It was to the point where I would accept I would never get more than four hours relinquishing myself to studying until I passed out at my desk.

I've long since accepted the fact I probably didn't develop all that much neurologically during that point, but it still kind of just sucks. The entire reason I kept going to high school was to get my WACE and get an engineering degree, but now that just isn't feasible. I thought I was garbage but at least the degree would mean I'm a better kind of garbage. I'm not brain damaged, I'm not stupid, I have basic reasoning skills but I am incapable of complex problem solving. The gap between my understanding of content but my lack of ability to apply it is actually infuriating.

I didn't quit when my father died in 7th grade, when my mother almost died in 10th, or when I broke my back and couldn't walk for almost a month, but it doesn't matter anymore. It's over for me.

Needs A Hug/Support I feel like I’m going crazy. I’m so scared. Please help me (TW: depersonalization)

Writing this because I feel so ill with anxiety that I can’t sleep, I’m just paralyzed with fear and have no one to talk to.

Very long story short, I posted in another subreddit, and the responses I got from people scared me so much.

I was venting about my feelings, and got multiple replies of people saying it was a fake post, and just for engagement. That it didn’t seem like a real post a teenager would make (I stated im 17f, which is true), so it must be fake. I also had someone impersonating me just for the purpose of mocking me, but had many replies discussing things “i” said but it wasn’t even me. I know Reddit isn’t a very positive platform, but I’ve never had such negative responses.

My post wasn’t fake. I wrote it on my own. But now I’m second guessing myself. I keep having the same thought. Everyone thought my post was fake, therefore my feelings are fake, therefore I’m fake too. I feel like I’m not even in control of my own body anymore. I feel like I don’t exist, and I’m some ghost and everyone around me isn’t real either. I’m so hyper aware of everything right now it’s so scary. I feel like I can feel everything and nothing at the same time. I’ve struggled with this before, but it’s never been this bad.

I’m so scared I’m not a real person.

Medication Has anyone else been having issues with Endo ODT Clonazepam?

I was using PAR .125 ODT clonazepam until PAR became Endo, so I switched to Endo in late 2025 or early 2026.

The first issue I noticed is that the blister packs are almost impossible to tear apart and almost impossible to open, especially when you’re having a panic attack.

However, the issues I’ve been experiencing more recently are much worse.

The most recent batch of the drug is different. This time the packaging is still hard to open, but the perforations are better, so it’s easier to tear apart. This suggests to me that they switched manufacturers AGAIN, sometime in the last few months (mid-to-late 2026). This batch seems to be affecting me differently, in ways that are extremely alarming. The ingredients are the same on paper, but I’m having strange symptoms. Dramatic brain fog, confusion, difficulty remembering words, trouble understanding words, calling things by the wrong name in my head constantly, constant racing, nonsensical thoughts. None of this has ever happened to me before, and it’s very disturbing. It started in early September, exactly when I started my new batch of clonazepam.

Has anyone else noticed strange changes, withdrawal symptoms, or anything out of the ordinary with Endo ODT clonazepam?

Advice Needed Why is this feeling lasting days?

It's been three days in a row, and I have this feeling of agitation and like I'm running out of time. It feels so uncomfortable and like I want to tear my muscles apart.

I'm always taking deep breaths and I feel like I'm in a constant state of worry... Over nothing? Like there's something I should be doing, but I don't know what.

I've never felt this way before, not even five minutes, and I especially have never had it last three entire days non-stop.

Is this anxiety? How do I make it go away? I feel like I'm stuck in a fight-or-flight loop that was triggered out of nowhere and it won't go away. I wake up, it's there. I shower, it's there. I play video games, it's there. And repeat.

I tried splashing cold water, breathing techniques, exorcizing, massages, stomping, slapping. It's not fading away and three whole days of this for someone who never experiences anxiety, is too long.

Health High resting heart rate?

I’ve been going to the doctors the past 3-4 months for issues (unrelated to heart) and every time my heart rate is clocking at 130 average! They’ve been concerned and pulled ekgs on me (all normal) but now I’m stressing cause I know that the heart rate is not normal! Ive had a really stressful year but does anybody else experience this?? I asked the doc to put me back on lexapro (on no psych meds currently) and he agreed cause it tbh has helped me the most out of any meds. If my heart rate doesn’t go down with that we’re gonna start on beta blockers. I’m 30f, need to lose some weight but not excessively overweight.

Advice Needed I've struggled with shaking and going blank under pressure for years. Has anyone overcome this?

I'm 23, and I've been struggling with this for as long as I can remember.

I used to be outgoing, but I've always felt uncomfortable in certain situations, such as public speaking or feeling evaluated by others. Since around 19–20, it's become much worse.

When I'm in a stressful situation, especially an interview or when I feel someone is judging me, I start shaking. My mind goes blank, I struggle to organize my thoughts, and sometimes I can't even finish my sentences despite knowing what I want to say.

I recently attended interviews for a potential career opportunity. I prepared beforehand and knew what I wanted to communicate, but in some rooms I became so nervous that I couldn't express myself properly. With other interviewers who made me feel comfortable, I did considerably better.

I remember experiencing similar problems during school debates, so this isn't something new.

I'm considering seeing my GP, but I'd like to hear from people who've experienced something similar.

- Has anyone managed to overcome or significantly reduce these symptoms?

- What helped you most: therapy, medication, exposure exercises, or something else?

- How do you stop worrying about being judged when you're speaking?

I'm not looking for a quick fix. I want to be able to communicate normally under pressure and stop letting this interfere with my career and life. Tried mindfulness meditation and breathing techniques, they don't help.

Medication Increased dose from 50mg to 100mg — fine in week 1, but severe nausea and anxiety spikes in week 2. Is this normal?

• Upvotes

I recently doubled my Sertraline (Zoloft) dose from 50mg to 100mg.

During the first week, I didn't feel anything out of the ordinary. However, now in the second week, I've been experiencing pretty bad nausea and sudden spikes of moderate anxiety.

Has anyone else experienced a delayed onset of side effects like this after increasing their dose? How long did it take for things to settle down for you?

Discussion Anxiety has made me more empathetic

• Upvotes

I was a jock in high school and college and tended to laugh off mental health problems. After having panic attacks and agoraphobia in my 20’s and 30’s, I’ve definitely become more empathetic and sensitive to others feelings and I think in that regard it’s made me a better person. Just wanted to post the one benefit anxiety has had on my life.

Needs A Hug/Support Someone tell me I don’t have something going on with my brain

• Upvotes

These past four months, I’ve been dealing with some stressful situations. My girlfriend and I just moved in together and it’s been nice, but certainly an adjustment period for the both of us. We’ve been learning how to live with one another and our routines.

But in this time:
- Both my girlfriend and I got laid off from our long-term jobs and we’ve been making ends meet from unemployment payments while looking for work.
- My 14 year old brother almost died from a heart condition.
- I have been dealing with CHRONIC death anxiety every single night since my birthday in July.
- I have been developing allergies from her dog that moved in with us as well.

So it seems like pretty much every week I’ve convinced myself that something physical is wrong with me. First it was my temples. I had bought a new headset. Luxury, meant for gaming, that I returned because it made me feel light-headed and squeezed me the wrong way. Then it was my stomach that was constantly churning back and forth but this one was the least of my worries because stomach flu happens all of the timeeeee. Then it was my ears aching and hurting. But now I’m having some sort of migraine thing I’m not sure what. I don’t think I’ve ever had a migraine. But the left side of my head throbbed. My ears popped. The worst of it is over, but I still can’t use my left eye comfortably (this is also my only fully functional eye). It feels extremely sensitive to screens and there’s a dull ache around my eyebrow. I have a constant urge to rub my eye or do something along the lines of. I look things up on google and I have to stop but it keeps me up at night. This cold feeling in my eye has been here for like 4 days.

Am i kicking the bucket or do I need a psychiatrist? Lol

Needs A Hug/Support The anxiety-nausea cycle... help!!!!!!

• Upvotes

The past week has been really rough. My anxiety has been incredibly high due to being a full time student, working part time, being a wife, and having other obligations with family and friends. This nausea cycle started with the horrible "lump" in my throat anxiety symptom, which leads to my inability to eat. The throat sensation causes even more anxiety which makes it worse, leading to slight nausea and the fear of throwing up if I DO eat anything. Every morning I wake up with severe anxiety and that kind of sets the mood for my entire day...

I've been pushing myself to go to my classes and go to work when I can but the cycle ISN'T STOPPING!!! I'm barely eating and feeling fatigued and weak as a result.

Sometimes later in the evening I feel better, or even NO anxiety. But I need help managing the symptoms while they're here.

Please offer any and all advice. I'm at a loss.

Note: I started taking Prozac again just 4 days ago so hopefully once that kicks in it'll help. I am also in therapy.

Medication Has anyone here ever switched from Wellbutrin to Lexapro after being on Wellbutrin for a long time?

• Upvotes

Been thinking about switching from Wellbutrin to Lexapro after being on Wellbutrin for about 4 years. Due to personal life circumstances the Wellbutrin doesn’t seem to be as effective now. I’m getting more racing thoughts and I have trouble remembering things because of it. I’ve heard Lexapro is more calming but who knows. Wellbutrin gives a little more “energy”.

Just seeing if anyone has ever switched between these two

Medication Lamictal increase 150mg to 200mg

• Upvotes

My mental health symptoms fluctuate moment to moment, not even day to day. Every day is bad, but some are worse than others as a whole. Anxiety, depression, feeling zoned out (dissociated, I assume), focus issues, my mind can't sit still (constantly pinging around, if that makes sense), and more. I've tried around 20 different mental health meds (and combinations), therapy, supplements, diets, acupuncture, and more. Some meds help a little but things get worse again. I rarely have panic attacks anymore, but the day to day anxiety, fatigue, and dissociation really kill my quality of life.

My psych put me on Lamictal about a year ago. I started at 25mg and then slowly, due to being sensitive to medications, made my way up to 150mg. Id break tablets into quarters and go up that way over time rather than 25mg jumps. Even then, it was tough. Maybe it is a mental hurdle? Unsure. Stuff that doesn't bother anyone else bothers me (Ex: creatine).

I have read some success stories about Lamictal for people's anxiety, depression, racing thoughts, and more. I'm wondering if my dosage is too low and maybe I need to slowly work my way up to 200mg? Yes, I'll be talking to my psych before taking any action.

Im also on Trintellix 20mg and Klonopin (prescribed .5mg per day, but I take 1/8 at a time and maybe use around a quarter, maybe a little more... Depends on the day).

Medication 4 Months into Prozac

• Upvotes

33m here. Have had anxiety most of my adult life ranging from mild to a brief stint where leaving my house was very difficult. 5 months ago I decided to finally see a therapist/ psychiatrist and MAN was it one of the best things I've done. I was started on Prozac at a 10mg dose for 2 weeks then upped to 20mg. It took some time to start feeling any changes (~2 ish months) but now 4 months in and it feels like such a weight has been lifted. I still get a little weird in major trigger situations (driving long highways/ big meetings at work) but my daily base level of anxiety is so low now.

Kind of a pointless post but as someone who was super nervous to try medicine, hopefully somebody who's similar and suffering will read this and give it a shot!

Needs A Hug/Support Playing online games

I am so anxious literally doing anything, but also I am anxious about playing games online. The idea they could be recording me kills me. Yet they don't know who I am? Nobody knows anything? Like I don't do social media at all.

Here is the thing. Every person in my life says nobody cares, get over it, or what have you. I've tried... Because my therapist says it's good exposure therapy.

Am I just weak? Why is this a bastion of peace for so many others but horrible for me? What I want from this post is like literally anyone to tell me they felt the same and overcame it and how. Sorry for being whiny.

Needs A Hug/Support Thinking about death is the only thing that brings me peace

I'm 25 and my anxiety is so bad right now. I can't get my mind to shut up, I can't stop catastrophizing and i can't stop all these intrusive thoughts. I can't sleep or eat or function like a normal person because of it. Then there is the panic attacks and chest pain and the breathing problems and inability to focus and the brain fog. I'm suffering and I don't know how to deal with it anymore. Sometimes I fantasize about dying or getting injured and brings me peace. I don't want to die and I'm not in a crisis right now but just the thought of it brings me peace and comfort.
