News & Rumours Google TV device owners heads up!!!

Effective immediately, if you have a device with the Google TV UI, please make one post at the Google TV subreddit, don't crosspost or repeat the same post on the Android TV subreddit, it will be deleted with the exception of:

- Posts about apps that work on both UIs.

- Posts of news articles that affects both UIs.

- Posts looking for advise on what device to buy.

It's worth mentioning that all posts will be reviewed for approval before they go live, so make sure you indicate the name of the device or the name of the UI on the title or description of your post.

Someone from Google is going to provide assistance on the Google TV subreddit, therefore, this is a good opportunity to provide feedback as well as to receive support from them.

This is their official statement:

"We will use the account u/GoogleHelpCommunity to provide timely technical support, help route escalations, and share updates on known outages on r/GoogleTV. We’ve chosen this subreddit because of its active community, and we want to ensure our presence adds value without disrupting the organic discussions you’ve cultivated.

Our commitment: Support Focus: We will stick to troubleshooting and informative responses. We won’t be engaging in marketing or off-topic discussions. Respecting the Rules: We will adhere to all subreddit guidelines and respect the established culture here."

Thank you for your attention and understanding.

Apps Mrowser — A New Android TV Browser Worth Trying

I recently discovered Mrowser, an open-source Android TV browser with native ExoPlayer support, built-in ad blocking, and D-pad mouse navigation.
I think it has the potential to become a great alternative to TV Bro, especially with community support.

Give it a try, report bugs, and suggest improvements to help the developer make it even better!

Buying Advice Advice please for a UK compatible cheap streaming device

Hello,

I'm advising an older relative on setting up a cheap streaming device. The apps on their cheap Bush TV are useless as keep freezing up. So I suggested a cheap streaming box/stick would be better. £20-40 budget ideally.

They don't really use BBC iPlayer, but they do use itvx, channel 4, channel 5, Netflix, Disney. I'd also like to be able to side load SmartTube and Stremio. I'd have to do this over the phone, and as these auto update themselves, once loaded they can forget about them. Regularly side loading apps and updating them, will be too stressful for them.

The Onn 4K box looked great, £19.35 on eBay. But the major issue seems to be it's a US device, so loading UK catch-up services seems tricky. Ideally I don't want to have to get them to use adaptor plugs either, as they'd be worried about fire risk! I know you can power some devices with a USB cable, so that's fine.

Any advice on a cheap UK compatible fairly simple box/stick would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Apps TIVRA (with SPORTS HUB) Release 3.3.6 - Profiles / Better Sync

This is an update to my previous post about the TIVRA Sports Hub...give us a try!

https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTVApps/comments/1wtfpyg/have_you_tried_tivra_sports_hub_game_changer/

Website: www.tivratv.com

Discord: https://discord.gg/x7FFhxzTT5

Subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/TIVRATV/

TIVRA is a media player for Android TV, Google TV, Fire TV and phones that sits in front of the live TV and on-demand libraries you already subscribe to, plus your own Jellyfin or Emby server. 3.3.6 went out today; here's what changed.

Profiles for the whole household

Each person gets a profile with its own avatar (a new neon set), and everything personal follows it: the last thing they were watching, recents, favorites, watch history, Trakt and SIMKL logins, the Home layout, sports preferences, hidden items and renames, custom categories, languages and subtitles, and blocked lists. A new profile starts clean. Custom categories can be copied from one profile to another, and the web dashboard can create things for all profiles at once or just one.

A guide that looks after itself

The program guide is now delivered by TIVRA for most services, so it's small and quick instead of a big download on your box. Set one overnight sync time and the box refreshes its guide and library lists while it sleeps, within two hours of that time. If a night is missed, it catches up when you open the app. The guide button on each service always does a full refresh, which doubles as the fix-it button.

Jellyfin and Emby browse live

TIVRA used to copy your whole Jellyfin or Emby library onto the box before you could browse it. On big libraries that took a long time, or never finished. It now reads your library straight from your server as you browse, so it's always current, there's nothing to sync, and library size doesn't matter. There's a library search page too.

Playback

A new Audio passthrough switch is on by default. If Dolby audio freezes or goes silent on your particular box, turn it off and the box decodes it instead; that one took a week of diagnostics with a very patient user. The screen now stays on during previews and Multi-View, resolution labels are more accurate, and Record asks how long.

Sports Hub

The rules that match a game to where it's showing now live on TIVRA's servers, so when a league, network or service names something oddly I can add a rule and every box picks it up within hours, no app update. If a game shows the wrong thing or is missing one, tell me the game and what you expected and I'll add the rule.

Categories

Categories can be a left-hand drawer or the classic row across the top, per device, in Settings.

Happy to answer questions here; I read everything.

Discussion Best video player?

I’m looking for the best video player app for Android TV.

I’m very used to Infuse on Apple TV, but my parents have a pretty powerful Android TV box, and I’d like to get them a similarly good experience.

My requirements are:
Direct playback from an SMB share on a NAS — no Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, or other media server setup.

Blu-ray remux support, including high-bitrate 4K files.

Dolby Vision support, ideally with proper profile handling and HDR fallback where necessary.

A polished, user-friendly interface with good library management, posters, metadata, subtitles, etc.

Basically, I want something as close to Infuse as possible, where you point it at a network share and everything just works without having to tinker with settings constantly.

I’m not interested in anything vibecoded or in setting up a media server. Just a solid, well-maintained native Android TV app that can handle high-quality local/network playback.

Discussion Does anyone know what the best launcher for Android TV currently is?

I'm new here, and I wanted to start using a launcher on my TV, but I don't know where to begin. I know that the best launcher is subjective and depends on personal preference, so I wanted to know which one you recommend.

Discussion ADB and android tv

I discovered something nice that I didn't know. I have a android tv I live in jamaica. I have a Wisdom Share smart tv originally show 720p and I was messing around with a pixel app for Android phones and I downloading it on the tv ran a adb command to activate the pixel resolution app.(It's not like a Google tv where you could select your resolution type .. it has to be done through adb/the pixel resolution app) I tried changing the resolution to 3840 × 2160 but the highest it could go was 2560 × 1440 and wow the quality now is amazing. Android Tvs are the best in my opinion rokus Samsung and vizio doesn't offer this much freedom. I feel kinda late lol

Troubleshooting YouTube App Green/Red Glitch — Help!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Sorry about the poor video quality, but I believe it still demonstrates the problem.

This just started today. No idea why. I have already switched the TV off at the wall and turned it back on = no change. I selected ‘Reset App’ = no change.

Has anybody ever seen this?

UPDATE: fixed it! if you are facing the same problem, go into TV Settings, look for Apps, and delete the cache. It went away immediately.

Buying Advice Looking for a Smart TV that can open any streaming websites directly

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to buy a 32-inch Smart TV in Morocco.

My main requirement is to be able to connect it to Wi-Fi, search on Google, open websites, and watch movies directly in the browser, without connecting a PC or phone.

For those who own a Smart TV, does this work well? Which model would you recommend based on your own experience?

Thanks!

Discussion Installing launcher apps

Hey all,

I just use projectivy, and tbh haven't tied others,. I'm fine with Projectivy.

I actually just wondering if all launchers have to go through a similar process to projectivy, or if there are Launcher that just can be installed like a regular apk. Simple and easy.

Just for some older family members I can't get too

Troubleshooting Urgent help, i fucked my Akai 3232M by disabling its system launcher from adb, now it's stuck on the boot logo.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I was just doing a simple debloat from wireless adb of this boy and now just by disabling its default launcher com.cvte.tv.launcher.fall is going through a bootloop, no wireless adb working unfortunately in this phase, the only thing that i found scanning all network ips is the Fire stick in the kitchen, do you mind any solution? I can't access anything in any way for now, i tried accessing like a secret boot option but if i long press any button and try to turn it on it just doesn't.

I don't want to switch as i can't right now and this TV is really smooth compared to many other trash Android TVs even though has 8GB of storage and No bluetooth.

Edit: I don't know how, but thanks to u/Ok-Fix-9708 i fixed my TV using a TP-Link AV100 adapter and an ethernet cable and my pc successfully catched my tv on adb i enabled the system launcher again, i'm so fucking happy

Buying Advice Are there any sticks/boxes, than run newer versions of Android?

The current version of Android is version 17.

However, the vast majority of Android TV Sticks/Boxes seem to cap out at around Android 13/14, some even run Android 11 or older.

Just wondering - Are there any TV Sticks/Boxes running Android 15-17? And if not, why?

I've heard older versions of Android are a security risk to still run now - is that true with these TV boxes?

Or is version 13/14 still new enough for now & the future?

Thanks

Buying Advice Certified Google TV STICK (Android 14)

I'm looking for a Google-certified 4K TV stick (HDMI stick, not a box) running Google TV based on Android TV OS 14.

So far, I've looked at the LEAP NOVA 4K and Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen).

Which one would you recommend, and are there any other sticks worth considering? Any better alternatives available today?

Thanks

Troubleshooting Issue with xiaomi mii stick youtube app

Hello,

Last year I bought a androidtv Mi TV Stick (model MDZ-24-AA) to use at my place with an old phone (Huaweii 08 Lite) serving as a wifi hotspot. It was working fine, no buffering, youtube playing at 1080p no problem.

Now, recently i decided to buy a propor hotspot router (And I bought the Mercusys MT115 - Mini router Hotspot 4G LTE Cat4) and ever since using it instead of the mobile phone, my androidtv stick just gets stuck playing youtube videos in 1080p. It wither freezes, or in "auto" quality it goes to 360p or even 240p(!). It also buffers on basic apps like replaio.

This only happens with the androidtv stick. I'm using the same hotspot device to connect my laptop and other phone, and I can play and stream videos on youtube, twitch, etc, no problem.

Has anyone gone through a similar situation and what would you recommend I do here?

I'm not sure if this is the correct sub to post it and if not, could someone help me redirect to the best subreddit for this please 🙏

Tips & Tutorials Guide: How to setup Cloudfare Warp on AndroidTV using wgcf

Thanks to u/LivingNecessary9789 that made a guide to use Warp on the FireStick, I'm rewriting this to adapt it to my Xiaomi MiBox 3rd Gen

Lately I had some issues with my provider banning the DNS resolving of my IPTV service and I discovered that using Warp the issue was solved.

So looked at this guide for the Firestick and corrected and I would like to share it with you

Part 1: Preparing the config file

  1. Download the right version of wgcf for your PC from here. (I used wgcf_***_windows_amd64.exe version on W11)
  2. Rename the downloaded file to wgcf.exe for convenience.
  3. Open terminal in the folder with the downloaded file, or run it and navigate to the folder using: cd yourfolderpath (for example cd c:\Users\yourname\Desktop\)
  4. Run these commands
    • wgcf.exe register
    • wgcf update
    • wgcf generate
  5. You should have a file named wgcf-profile.conf in the folder
  6. Download https://download.wireguard.com/android-client/ and keep it in the same folder of the generated files
  7. Rename it wireguard.apk
  8. Download SDK platform Tools if you don't have it (Adb)
  9. Unzip the platform Tools it in the same folder as all the other files

Part 2: Setting it up on your Android TV

  1. On your OS you have to enable developer options from Settings->About by clicking 10 times your Android TV OS build
  2. In Settings->System->Developer options your have to enable USB Debugging and Wireless Debugging
  3. Find your local network IP address navigating to your WiFi infos and write it down
  4. Use this adb commands to install wireguard and send the conf file to your tv box:
    • adb connect 192.168.1.10 (this ip is as example, use the one you found)
    • Accept the request on your TV
    • adb install wireguard.apk
    • adb push wgcf-profile.conf /sdcard/Download/
  5. Open the new app with the white dragon
  6. Tap on the + button (if you don't have a file manager download the recommended one) and check the Download folder to find wgcf-profile.conf
  7. Once loaded, press select on the file to activate it, should be in light blue color to show it is active and show Rx and Tx data used
  8. Check if it's working by going to 1.1.1.1/help on the browser

This worked for me to use 1.1.1.1 Warp for free

Buying Advice What's the best cheap Android TV box for around 25-30$?

Hello, I'm looking to buy an android TV box on a budget, I don't need any 4k stuff since my tv only supports 1080P, Both onn and xiaomi look very good but i don't know which one to choose, i would love for one that allows installing apks and and opens websites properly because the one i have right now is too old and weak, Any help would be appreciated.

this one seems good but i don't really know how well it'll work and how long it'll last https://www.noon.com/bahrain-en/android-tv-4k-uhd-streaming-device-with-remote-control-voice-remote-google-tv-and-google-assistant-supported-ultra-hd-android-tv-box-hdmi-cable-included-high-performance-smart-tv-box-for-streaming-netflix-youtube-amazon-prime-and-more/ZAE4B60BF6B61C26B13ADZ/p/?o=zae4b60bf6b61c26b13adz-1
