TX3D News HD 89 candidate Carraway challenges Noble on classroom religion and vouchers

For Allen voters following the HD 89 race: Angie Carraway described a student confusing the constitutional amendments with the Ten Commandments during a Fairview campaign appearance.

She wants the display requirement repealed and vouchers ended. The article includes her proposals and context on what the Legislature approved.

Infant Daycare

Hi, we’re moving to Allen soon and are curious about the cost of infant daycare. We’re looking for a monthly budget of about $1500-$1600 for either full-time or part-time care. I noticed Primrose School or KinderCare at Fountain Park. Do you think these options will fit within our budget? Also, are there any fun activities we can do with our little one? We’re moving near the Village.

Mixed family relocating for work. Would love honest feedback about Allen.

Hello! My family is relocating from Central Florida to DFW for work. I had the opportunity to visit for a weekend and have narrowed our search down to Plano, Coppell, and Allen.

I’m second-generation Cuban American, my husband is Black, and our elementary-aged son is a beautiful mix of both. We lean more liberal and are fully aware of the political climate in Texas. We’re relocating for work, so I’m hoping for insight into the cities/communities themselves rather than advice to avoid Texas altogether. 😂

I’ve been researching schools and neighborhoods, but demographics and ratings only tell me so much. I’d love to hear from people who actually live here, especially other interracial couples and multiracial families. Do you feel comfortable and welcomed? Have you been able to make friends and find your people?

For parents, what has your kids’ experience been like at school? Have they experienced racist comments or exclusion? If something happened, did the staff take it seriously and handle it well? I’d love to hear positive experiences too. I’m looking for an honest picture, whatever that looks like.

Are there particular neighborhoods or elementary schools you’d recommend? How do Plano, Coppell, and Allen compare in your experience? Are there other areas we should consider with strong schools and a welcoming, family-friendly community?

We’re excited about the move and want somewhere we can put down roots, build friendships, and raise our son feeling comfortable and proud of who he is. Thanks for anything you’re willing to share. 🤗

Feel free to DM me if you’d rather not post publicly!

Discussion Smoke shops and age restriction enforcement (or lack thereof)

So, our teen daughter has friends who smoke, including the stuff that is supposedly now even more super-duper-illegal than before or whatever, not only for under-21s. One of her friends is 15 and goes to a smoke shop for whatever he likes. Daughter says smoke shops never card, they just don't care. Also, they supposedly still have all the "good stuff" that they aren't supposed to, as evidenced by the leftover smell in my car when my daughter got back last night. No, girl, open windows and perfume don't help as much as you want them to LOL. That's the real stuff I'm smelling, not the Delta-9 or whatever there's still a loophole for.

And before you make assumptions, yes, yes, daughter used to partake herself (*concerned parent noises*), but has since stopped, either completely or mostly, and definitely when she's driving. She says she knows better than to drive under the influence of any substance.

I have a few questions:

  1. How true is it that the shops just don't bother carding/enforcing? I know authorities supposedly do "checks" here and there, either sending a minor (or minor-looking person) in and ensuring they are carded, or having someone ask for the "good stuff" and seeing the shop employees' reactions. But surely the shops that "don't card and don't care" would be caught, yes?
  2. Judging by the smell in my car, they also seem to have no problem continuing to sell the "good stuff". How? I get that street dealers can get away with more, but the shops in strip malls that pay rent and have business licenses, etc. - how are they even able to get away with it, assuming what she's telling me is true?

Because reddit is public, I understand that some people might not want to be completely candid in replies. DMs are fine. I promise I'm no narc - it's difficult enough to keep up with our daughter's shenanigans and ensure she stays alive long enough for her prefrontal cortex to develop. *sigh*
