Welcome to this sub! After a long period of inactivity, I’ve became a mod of this subreddit and decided to revive it! I hope to foster a community where Avatar fans can discuss fanfiction. This can be a great place to discuss, share, analyze, and recommend fanfiction. Korra-era fanfiction is also welcome!

If you have any suggestions (user/post flairs, weekly discussion threads, etc.), feel free to message the mods!

I’ve added a few rules which can be found in the sidebar.

Enjoy!

Request Anyone have any good fic recs?

I'm down for anything really, AO3 preferably and I prefer finished or regularly updated. My favorite so far is the gloriously unhinged Dragon King's Temple, which is a Stargate/ATLA crossover. And I have read Blue and that one by Muffinlance.

Pretty much the only thing I don't want to read is straight porn or super dark stuff (I get fatigued and burnt out reading long depressing fics, there's one with Zuko and Sokka that I didn't finish because while book 1 was great and had some super dark scenes, book 2 got significantly darker and there was no apparent light at the end of the tunnel).

Thank you!

Discussion How realistic and grounded do you want physics, action and fights to be?

How realistic physics, action, fights in Avatar stories do you think should be? Do you find realistic action too unimpressive? How realistically the properties of elements should be portrayed? Are there moments in canon( entire franchise) that are too unrealistic for you( because you feel that it erases the differences between elements, breaks the rules of the universe, makes a character look more powerful than they are intended to be etc)?

Promotion Avatar Taoreta’s story begins! Chapter One is now live on AO3

The past is officially prologue, as announced in my previous post, and now we step into Taoreta’s perspective now that Szeto set the stage in the Spirit Library! After years of developing this project, I’m excited to share the opening of Story Arc One: The Measure of an Heir with the release of Chapter One: The Weight of Aid, following the Fire Nation’s crown princess on her first royal relief expedition.

Twenty sacks of barley have vanished from the records, and Crown Princess Taoreta intends to find them. Bound for eruption-stricken Keiraku with a ship full of supplies and something to prove, the fourteen-year-old heir is determined to make her father’s trust count. Between troublesome manifests and her minister’s relentless teasing, there is plenty to occupy her...until a Northern Water Tribe healer’s unexpected answer raises questions no ledger can settle. Taoreta has spent years preparing to govern. Now she must begin reckoning with the influence she already possesses, and the consequences even her best intentions might set in motion.

Read Chapter One on AO3 here!

A quick note on length: this is an especially long chapter for the proper premiere. Most future chapters should be several thousand words shorter, though important moments may occasionally warrant a longer installment.

Happy reading! I hope you enjoy getting to know Taoreta, and I’d love to hear what you think.

• Katara tem 11 anos.

99 AG

• Aang é libertado do iceberg.

100 AG

• Sokka;

• Katara;

• Mestre Pakku.

Livro 2 — Subterfúgio (Terra)

Ano: 97 AG

O segundo livro foca na jornada pelo Reino da Terra e no desenvolvimento das habilidades necessárias para enfrentar os desafios que estão por vir.

Eventos principais:

• A Caverna dos Dois Amantes: Episódio 2.

• Rei Bumi: Episódio 5.

• Dia do Avatar: Episódio 6.

• Sokka;

• Katara;

• Toph.

Livro 3 — Liberdades (Ar)

Ano: 98 AG

My 8th Grade Create Your Own Myth from Covid about the creation of the modern Air Nomads and Sky Bison.

LOL I KINDA SUCKED AT WRITING BACK THEN.

Long before the Air Temples sat on the pinnacles of the world and the rise of the Four Nations, lived Avatar Aido of the Fire Islands. Nearly nine thousand years before the Air Genocide, Aido was the most important Avatar who was never fully realized. Though he mastered Earth, Water, and Fire beyond any Avatar for millennia, and mastered a power unknown to almost every Avatar ever, Aido never once airbent.

In his youth, Aido was one of the first combustion benders and ended the Second War of the Fire Islands between the Keohso and Saowon. On his first day of battle at Ma'inka Island, Saowon warriors whipped members of his family into the raging sea. Enraged, Aido rose in a firespout and unleashed combustion blasts so powerful that the Saowon capital was destroyed, forcing their surrender in fright of the Avatar.

After this, Aido accepted his Avatarhood and went west to learn airbending. Instead, he found something far more terrible. The Western Sea was consumed by the First Immortal Storm.

Entering a spiritual communion with his Water predecessor, Avatar La, Aido learned the truth: during a famine, a desperate monk consumed the Second Ocean Spirit. In a fit of rage and grief, the First Ocean Spirit abandoned the Spirit Oasis and became a monstrous force of nature. Avatar La attempted to calm the spirit by merging with it, but the union failed. The spirit's rage corrupted La, while La's presence magnified the spirit's power, trapping part of La's spirit within the storm. For thousands of years, this immortal storm devastated the Air Territory until the airbenders went extinct.

Determined to save the element, Aido ventured into the storm's eye and found the last Air Lion Turtle, who used its remaining life force to gift him energybending. When he returned to Shuhon Island, his mother told him that in ancient times, this power gave people bending. After trying to airbend for two years, Aido gave up. He traveled the world for three years, mastering Water and Earth beyond any master of his era. He learned sandbending, vapor manipulation, and dust stepping to compensate, yet he still could not airbend.

During an attempt of chi-changing on the coast, Aido accidentally merged a bison-beaver and a manatee-beaver into a new furry, flappy-tailed mammal. After watching the creature soar away, Avatar Aido noticed matching arrow-like scars on their chi paths and realized he had granted the creature airbending.

Seeking answers, Aido found a wild herd of bison-beavers. He gathered ten of each species and entered the Avatar State, fusing the twenty animals into ten new hybrids. To test his limits on a human, Aido used his powers on Panujjan, the most disciplined person he knew. A blinding green chi-changer erupted, granting Panujjan the ability to put martial arts into elemental use.

Now knowing he could rebuild an entire civilization, Aido traveled to mountain regions to establish safe-guarded fortresses for the new population. He built farms and gardens so the people would never starve, and employed experts on Air Culture to enrich the new Air Peoples with tradition. After this, Aido found 1000 of the best fighters, sages, and most peaceful people, gathering them at the Spirit Oasis in the Water Territory. For months, he taught them the values and traditions of the lost Air Territory, preparing them for a future they would build without him. In his final feat, Aido entered the Avatar State. Spears and constructs of spiritual and chi energy erupted around him, slowly rewriting the chi paths of the thousand people gathered in the oasis. As energy flowed from person to person, powerful gusts of wind circled the waters. When the last current of energy left his body, Aido collapsed. He died knowing he had fertilized the soil for the seeds with the greatest potential, and that air would live on long after he was gone.

Aido’s death was not in vain. Those he transformed into airbenders became the ancestors of the modern Air Nomads, and they created many customs used for the next 10,000 years. From his connection to the sky, the first sacred air temples were constructed upon the highest peaks, and the majestic sky bison were born to guide his chosen people. The sky bison had arrows reminiscent to those of Aido’s scars, and the Airbenders honored him by tattooing masters with the same arrows. For the rest of the existence of the Air Nomads, elders will teach that every sky bison scaling the sky carries a part of Aido's final gift, and that every Air Nomad arrow points back to the boy who could never airbend, yet saved airbending itself.

Request Fics with Zuko getting possessed / sharing a body

Recently read “Unchained Melody” by AvocadoLove and it was so good, but was wondering if anyone has come across any other fics where there’s some form of ghostly possession (preferably with other human characters rather than the spirits, though the spirits are fine too)?

Thank you!!

Promotion The Prologue for The Fire Lord Who Never Was: The Legend of Avatar Taoreta: Book One: Dreams has officially been posted on AO3. More chapters to come very soon.

Previously, I posted this sneak peek and sample scene for this project I have been gradually developing for years, as well as some explanations. Story Reveal and First Sneak Peek: Series Title: Chronicles of a Fully Realized Crown Princess. Title of the first tale in the series: The Fire Lord Who Never Was: The Legend of Avatar Taoreta: Book One: Dreams : r/ATLAfanfiction

And now, after all this time, I have officially posted the story on Archive of Our Own. So excited to finally be sharing it with you all!

The Fire Lord Who Never Was: The Legend of Avatar Taoreta: Book One: Dreams - AvatarSazed93 - Avatar: The Last Airbender & Related Fandoms [Archive of Our Own]

But for the record, the sample scene I shared last time is for chapter one. The opening of this story, however, is a very important prologue you have not seen yet. It is from Avatar Szeto's perspective, and what happens in it serves as a sort of framing device for the core of the story. We switch to Taoreta's third-person limited perspective, starting in the actual Chapter One, but I wanted to make that clear.

Anyway, I hope you like it, and if you want to leave some comments for me, either on the chapter itself or in here, then thank you very much. I will answer more questions when I am able, until next time.

Promotion Story Reveal and First Sneak Peek: Series Title: Chronicles of a Fully Realized Crown Princess. Title of the first tale in the series: The Fire Lord Who Never Was: The Legend of Avatar Taoreta: Book One: Dreams

After years of developing this project, I’m excited to announce that my Avatar fanfic will begin publishing on Archive of Our Own on Saturday, October 10, 2026! Tonight, I’m sharing a first sneak peek. The story follows Taoreta, my interpretation of the canonically unnamed female Fire Avatar who lived one complete Avatar cycle before Szeto, beginning with her life as the Fire Nation’s crown princess.

Before anything else, I want to dedicate this post to my three main beta readers: u/FantomeGhost, u/Rude_Distance_7899, and my good friend Blue Mcy, who isn’t on Reddit. Over the past few months, their early chapter feedback, constructive criticism, and brainstorming sessions have helped me develop this story considerably. So, thank you all for your time, patience, and willingness to work through these ideas with me!

I first conceived of this project over three years ago and have worked on it on and off ever since. However, after the release of the Avatar Aang movie in July 2026, work on my Lore Compendium became much more consistent and extensive. It now contains over 400 pages of notes, historical background, and timeline entries, developed to give the world around Taoreta a history that meaningfully shapes the politics and lives of the people living in it.

Alongside my plans for Taoreta’s own era, I’ve also developed an interconnected historical sequence covering the seven Avatars before her (working on the 8th though, it's just that I barely started with the second Fire Avatar before her since the chain of consequences from subsequent avatars is more directly relevant to Taoreta's era than with him specifically but I do have some ideas for how his actions ended up affecting the world and times that shaped the era of his air avatar successor, who is the one that really started the chain of events here leading to the massive dominos when we get to my version of Avatar Salai and then eventually Taoreta so in that indirect sense his influence will be important in setting the stage but more on that later).

Regardless, some of these past avatars will have fanon names and backgrounds in my timeline due to lack of canon details and names as of this time. For others, I will be expanding upon canon Avatars about whom we know relatively little, including Gun, Luyu, and Salai, and giving them my own interpretation when the effects of their lifetimes spill over into Taoreta's time period one way or another. Their lives connect through the problems they inherit, the solutions they attempt, and the consequences that continue unfolding after their deaths. And I ended up attaching their respective names to their likeness from the official artwork for the statues of canonical Avatars from the Legend of Korra Season Two official artbook when it comes to their placement in the cycle, just for the record. You can see the canon image over here, along with my own chosen names written above the respective statues for the relevant Avatars I mentioned before Taoreta, and because it will become relevant later even if I don't want to share the details of those spoilers right now, I also have information and backstory relevance for the 3 avatars between her and Szeto and how they were affected by Taoreta's legacy and their own legacies in turn, ended up affecting Szeto as the Fire Nation kept descending into chaos:

https://postimg.cc/K3zRznjY

Much of this grew from my interest in historical analysis: a solution produces unintended consequences, a successor overcorrects, and new consequences emerge in turn. That feels especially fitting for the Avatar cycle to me, where successive incarnations must respond to a changing world shaped partly by their predecessors. True, this is my own interpretation, rather than a framework explicitly stated in canon, but I’ve worked to keep it fairly consistent with Avatar Legends lore wherever possible. And those historical connections support Taoreta’s personal story of royal responsibility, relationships, spiritual mysteries, and her dream of becoming Fire Lord.

And about that, some of you may also remember my earlier speculative character essay about the unnamed Fire Avatar before Szeto. It explored my headcanon that her choices inadvertently began a chain of events that eventually encouraged Szeto to overcorrect by concentrating so heavily on the Fire Nation. That was my first real attempt to test the waters here for this project. To everyone who enjoyed it, expressed support, or encouraged me to turn the idea into a fanfic: well, I hope you enjoy what I’ve been preparing!

I also want to thank u/CalebKetterer for inspiring my choice of the name Taoreta, which he used for this Avatar in his intriguing in-universe fanon entries over at r/TheGreatLibrary. My project has since developed in directions that I no longer think fit neatly with all of that community’s established lore, so it should be understood as my own continuity. Nevertheless, I enjoy his project and want to give him proper credit for the name that helped this version of the Fire Avatar take shape.

So anyway, my planned AO3 series title is Chronicles of a Fully Realized Crown Princess. In homage to Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, I’m organizing it into seasons called Books, each with its own subtitle. The first installment is The Fire Lord Who Never Was: The Legend of Avatar Taoreta: Book One: Dreams. I already have well over twenty chapters written from preproduction, along with concrete plans for most of the larger story arcs.

Book One: Dreams will contain two major story arcs, with the conclusion of the first serving as a midseason finale. The plan is to then take a few weeks off to rest and prepare further outlines and chapters before returning with a shorter interlude arc that bridges the two halves. After the second major arc concludes Book One, I plan to take another break before beginning Book Two: Trials, continuing that seasonal structure as the series develops.

The October 10 premiere falls the day after Avatar: Seven Havens begins, and I’m aiming to release a new chapter every Saturday while its first season unfolds. I thought this would be a fun way to celebrate the arrival of a new Avatar series alongside fellow fans while finally sharing the story I’ve spent so long preparing.

During at least the first month, I also plan to publish extra chapters between Saturday updates, since I enjoy getting a new fic off to an energetic start. Depending on reception and reader feedback, that could mean one, two, or three additional chapters between Saturdays. Enthusiastic responses/comments and active discussion will certainly encourage me to lean towards more, though! But once all thirteen episodes of Seven Havens’ first season have been released, I’ll probably settle into the regular Saturday schedule until the first major arc reaches its conclusion and the planned break begins.

With so many chapters already drafted, I may also occasionally share more sneak peeks from upcoming chapters before their full release, depending on how people respond to sample scenes like tonight’s. I’ve had a lot of fun developing this world privately, and I’m looking forward to seeing which characters, mysteries, and historical connections catch your interest.

I also want to clarify that I’ve created a new AO3 account specifically for this project under the username AvatarSazed93, choosing a name more closely connected to my Avatar interests. You can find it here: archiveofourown.org/users/AvatarSazed93. Here on Reddit, I’ll continue using Stormist1993, since if there is a way to change my username over here, I have yet to find it. If you don’t have an AO3 account, or would simply prefer to reach out privately here, you’re welcome to message me on Reddit about the story.

But for now, I hope you enjoy this sneak peek from Book One: Dreams, Chapter One: The Weight of Aid. Avatar: Seven Havens premieres in a matter of minutes in my time zone, and I’m really looking forward to watching it alongside the rest of you. Happy reading and happy binge-watching, my fellow Avatar Legends fans! If you have any questions or comments before the October 10 premiere, leave them below, and I’ll answer as best I can when I’m able.

----

Twenty sacks of barley had mysteriously disappeared.

Not physically, though. Taoreta was reasonably confident that the Guiding Moonlight had not somehow managed to misplace half a ton of grain in the middle of the ocean. On paper, however, the barley had vanished completely.

She glared at the offending manifest as if it was personally assaulting her honor and decided that such mockery would NOT stand. At fourteen, Taoreta's face had not yet entirely lost the softness of childhood, though its narrow oval shape, straight nose, and gently pointed chin were already beginning to resemble the formal portraits commissioned of the women in her family. Her dark brown eyes sometimes caught amber in strong light. The effect was considerably less regal when she was glaring at barley, though.

The ship’s working cabin was warm despite the open stern windows. Late-afternoon sunlight came through them in long amber shafts, catching motes of dust above the broad table and turning the edges of stacked papers gold. Somewhere beyond the walls, ropes creaked, timbers groaned, and sailors called to one another over the steady rush of water along the hull. Taoreta barely heard them anyway as her finger moved down the column again. Most of her long, nearly black hair had been pinned back for work, but a loose strand had escaped at her temple sometime during the last hour. Taoreta pushed it back impatiently without looking away from the figures. The cabin heat had already defeated whatever dignity her attendants had intended for her appearance that afternoon.

She looked at the sums of rice, millet, barley, beans and salt fish. Then she turned the page and there was more barley. No…wait…that was the problem. She pulled another sheet closer and compared the two entries.

“Hold Three says one hundred and sixty sacks.”

Across the table, Minister Jensu did not look up.

“One hundred and forty.”

“Exactly.”

“That is usually what people mean when two numbers disagree, Your Highness.”

Taoreta tilted her head as she gave him a look. Jensu remained bent over his papers with the expression of a man who had chosen not to notice it. He was young for a minister at only twenty-two and sometimes still looked younger when he had spent too long working. His formal topknot remained properly arranged, but several dark strands had escaped around his temples, and there was a faint streak of ink along the side of one hand. Three separate inventories lay open before him, each covered in his small, disciplined notes.

Taoreta looked back to the manifest, and her frown deepened. “The loading sheet says one hundred and sixty sacks entered Hold Three.”

“The final hold inventory says one hundred and forty,” Jensu reminded her.

“And yet, the provisioning account still lists the full shipment,” she remarked.

“So, unless twenty sacks fell overboard without anyone noticing…”

"Yeah, exactly. They were moved.”

“After loading, Your Highness?”

“Almost certainly.”

Jensu began turning pages with renewed vigor in his hands while Taoreta stared at the figures while biting her lower lip slightly. One hundred and sixty. One hundred and forty. Twenty transferred elsewhere.

There had been a change during loading. She had read about that, hadn’t she? Not on this sheet, though, so there had to be another one that could answer it…the third inventory…

“Wait.”

Jensu dutifully stopped as Taoreta closed her eyes for half a heartbeat. Not because doing so helped her remember, but because it helped shut out the clutter in front of her.

“Three days before departure,” She thought to herself on reflection. “Revised loading allocations. Hold Two had taken additional medical crates. Hold Four had been lighter than expected after the canvas rolls were compressed…ah, there it was.”

“Third inventory,” she said aloud. “Seventh entry from the bottom.”

Jensu's eyes narrowed. “The third?”

“The amended one from the afternoon loading shift.”

He pulled it from beneath two other documents.

“Seventh entry.”

“Yes, from the bottom. I heard you, Your Highness.”

His finger moved upward and stopped on their tracks as Taoreta watched his expression change. Twenty sacks of barley were transferred from Hold Three to Hold Four to compensate for revised weight distribution. Jensu looked at her with a highly raised eyebrow. Taoreta smiled at that as the offending mystery was resolved and decided she would be able to rest easier that night now that her sense of honor was restored.

“And there they are.”

He continued staring at the page for several seconds. Then he placed both hands flat upon the table.

“I have decided,” he announced solemnly, “that I am prepared to surrender my eventual government pension.”

Taoreta blinked rapidly as she tried to make sense of that abrupt statement. “For barley?”

“For your memory.”

That made her laugh on the spot, but Jensu was undeterred and continued pointing at her as though presenting evidence before a magistrate.

“I mean it. Whatever spirit decided to build the recorded potential of an archive inside the Crown Princess's skull may have my pension in exchange for doing the same to me.”

“That seems like a poor bargain, esteemed Minister.”

“Not from where I'm sitting,” he responded as he shook his head with a straight face.

“Then you would regret it when you were old.”

“Perhaps on some days, but I would retire with the satisfaction of never again spending half an hour searching for a document you remembered after looking at it once.”

“I did not look at it once.”

“Twice, then.”

“I still don’t know what to tell you after all this time, Jensu. All I can honestly say is that recalling what I have read in the past never seems to be a problem as long as I take the time to focus on the topic while I was first reading it. Sometimes that takes more than one or two times, but rarely more than that if I find the subject matter interesting enough to think about it back then.”

Jensu failed to suppress an exasperated noise at those words. Then Taoreta leaned back in her chair, still amused. She was already somewhat tall and long-limbed for fourteen, still slender rather than imposing, with the compact strength and straight-backed habits that years of elite firebending instruction had worked into her.

Her memory had always seemed stranger to other people than it did to her. She now knew it was unusual. Her tutors had made that clear years ago. So had the expression on her father's face the first time she had recited almost an entire page of prefectural tax figures forwards and backward after he had casually asked whether she remembered one number from it.

But it did not feel to her like possessing a pitch-perfect archive hiding behind her eyes. She could still forget things. Faces, sometimes. Where she had put a hairpin. The exact wording of purely verbal conversations that had happened months before. She could misunderstand a report as easily as anyone else if she had misunderstood it the first time.

Written things were different, however. Once she had really read something, and once she understood how the visual information fit together on the page, it tended to remain in her mind for some reason they had never been able to fully determine. The precise why of it all had a way of mystifying the people around her sometimes, but it’s not like Taoreta was complaining. It came extraordinarily handy once she realized she enjoyed administrative work so much.

And besides, how else was she going to be able to silently recite her most cherished books of fables, legends, and histories from start to finish to entertain herself whenever she felt like taking a break with some time to herself?

“You know,” she finally said, feeling conviction pooling in her gaze, “I think you're giving yourself too little credit.”

“Your Highness, I assure you I am giving myself precisely the correct amount,” replied her handpicked minister.

“No,” she declared more firmly.

Taoreta then tapped the amended inventory.

“I remember where this was because I have a rare advantage I seem to have been born with.”

Jensu raised an eyebrow at that.

“You, on the other hand, actually have to learn all of it.”

“That is generally how learning works, you know,” Jensu remarked.

“And yet, I can tell you know what I mean.”

She did not smile this time.

“You have to take notes. Compare accounts. Mark things. Read them again. And somehow you still keep up with me most of the time.”

Jensu's expression shifted almost imperceptibly. Taoreta continued before she could become embarrassed by saying something intended to be kind.

“That is more impressive.”

For once, Jensu had no quick answer. Eventually, he looked down at the inventory.

“Well,” he said at last, clearing his throat, “I shall inform His Majesty that the Crown Princess has decreed that my eventual pension is to be preserved as an immovable cornerstone of domestic policy.”

“I have issued no such royal edict!” She replied in mock-indignation, unable to contain her grin.

“I heard an implication…” He said while raising his hands in a placating gesture that would have made a seasoned diplomat proud.

“You mean you heard what was convenient and used it to defend yourself with plausible deniability,” Taoreta rebutted before chuckling.

"Perhaps, but you can’t deny that’s a useful skill in government, can you, my princess?”

That made her grin widen again. Jensu dropped the formal protocol of referring to her as “Your Highness” to simply “my princess” when they were working privately and relaxed enough that the situation called for it. She didn’t mind in this case, since as necessary as protocol and etiquette were to sustain the symbolic trappings of power, sometimes she found the constant string of formality beyond suffocating.

And if she happened to like the way it sounded rather more than she probably ought to, for reasons that continued to mystify her, that was nobody's concern but hers.

“I feel like I am forgetting something important,” Taoreta said suddenly a few minutes later, her grin dissolving into a displeased frown.

Jensu raised an eyebrow. “Forgive me for saying so, my princess, but in light of the conversation we just had, that sounds perilously close to spiritual sacrilege.”

Taoreta rolled her eyes, though she could not keep the corners of her mouth from twitching. “Again, my memory is unusually good. It is not divinely infallible. And it is much better at remembering something I have read than remembering whether I actually finished some task I meant to do.” She drummed her fingers once against the table. “Which means this is probably something I never wrote down...”

The thought of unwritten obligations nudged another thought loose. Winter. Solstice. Omashu. Her eyes widened in sudden diplomatic horror. “Oh no.”

Jensu’s amusement faded just enough for professional concern. “What?”

“I was supposed to be in Omashu next week.” The words came faster as the whole chain assembled itself. “Crown Prince Bumin turns twenty-seven on the Winter Solstice, Princess Yao turns fifteen on the same day, and Father and King Bumai arranged the visit around their shared birthday so we could finally meet properly. I wrote them a letter explaining that Keiraku made it impossible for me to attend, but I got so engrossed in assembling this relief mission that I never verified whether the diplomatic office actually dispatched it.” Her expression worsened. “Or sent the gifts.”

She had been genuinely disappointed to cancel. Omashu was one of the great cities of the Earth Kingdom, and there were only so many royal children close enough to her own generation for their fathers to deliberately arrange opportunities for them to meet, talk, and hopefully get along. But once the scale of Keiraku’s damage became clear, the choice had not really felt like a choice. People recovering from a volcanic eruption mattered more than a birthday celebration, even a royal one. But that made properly acknowledging the cancellation more important, not less.

Jensu made a small sound that was suspiciously close to a laugh. Taoreta’s head snapped toward him. “Why are you enjoying this? If I accepted an invitation from the King of Omashu, canceled because duty required me elsewhere, and then failed to send so much as a proper apology, that could become a diplomatic insult to House Guo!”

“Which is why,” Jensu said, looking entirely too pleased with himself, “I checked before we boarded.”

Taoreta stopped. Jensu continued before she could interrupt. “The letter was sealed in the royal diplomatic packet exactly as you instructed. I also verified both gifts personally: the lacquered travel writing chest for Crown Prince Bumin, with the royal workshops’ brushes, inkstone, document weights, and correspondence compartments; and the book-and-writing case for Princess Yao, together with the illustrated Fire Nation fables and natural-history and geographic volumes you selected. Prestigious enough for their rank, I thought, without pretending that you know either of them better than you actually do.”

Taoreta narrowed her eyes at the last remark, but Jensu lifted one finger and pressed onward. “They left the capital aboard one of the Crown’s fastest dispatch vessels. From the Earth Kingdom coast, the packet and both gift cases are to transfer to the established diplomatic courier route for Omashu. Barring a storm, piracy, or the Earth Kingdom bureaucracy developing a sudden personal grudge against birthdays, they should arrive several days before the solstice.”

Taoreta exhaled so hard that her shoulders sagged. “Thank the spirits.” Then she looked at him again. “You knew I had forgotten to check.”

“I suspected you eventually would.”

“And you waited for me to remember?”

“For five days.”

Taoreta stared at him in disbelief. “That is cruel.”

“Educational,” Jensu corrected.

For another heartbeat she tried to maintain the glare, then failed and laughed. “You are insufferable.”

“And reliably so.”

“That, unfortunately, is why I handpicked you.” Taoreta shook her head, the last of the panic leaving her as quickly as it had arrived. “Thank you, Jensu. Truly.”

He inclined his head with mock solemnity. “Of course, my princess.”

“Remind me never to question your pension again.”

Jensu’s expression brightened instantly. “I was under the impression it had already become an immovable cornerstone of domestic policy.”

“After this,” Taoreta said, drawing herself up with exaggerated gravity, “I may be forced to classify it as a matter of foreign policy as well.”

“At last,” Jensu declared with an undisguised grin. “Proper recognition.”

Looking for zuko-centric ff similar to Learning to Fly

Like the title says, Im looking for similar fics where zuko switches sides before Aang even is introduced, but still interacts with Aang after he's freed from the ice. I really love starofjems' fic and the way it's written, especially the way the fire nation citizens support Zuko!

Discussion What if Sokka were the Dark Avatar?

I was recently looking at some alternate-universe fanfics featuring Zuko. I came across versions where he ends up as Raava’s Avatar, and others where Vaatu somehow becomes the self-proclaimed “Avatar of Chaos.” This got me thinking about a different possibility:

What if Sokka became the Avatar of Darkness?

One thing that caught my attention is that Sokka lives at the South Pole, a region with a strong connection to the Spirit World. So, I wondered if it would be possible to come up with a scenario where—while still a child or teenager—he stumbles upon a gateway to the Spirit World.

Perhaps, during an expedition, a storm, a spiritual aurora, or some supernatural phenomenon, Sokka accidentally crosses over into the Spirit World. There, he might encounter Vaatu or another entity linked to darkness. Instead of simply being possessed by it, something different could happen: Sokka could become the host for a spiritual force equivalent to the Avatar, creating a sort of Avatar of Darkness.

Promotion I have always kinda wished that the series showed us what it was like for Korra after Zaheer's defeat and how Korra's first initial recovery before going to the south pole was like so... I wrote about it!

That's part of my Korra recovery fic. The chapter starts right after Zaheer's defeat. It's gonna be a part one and part 2 type situation chap. This is part one.

That one was kind of a challenge for me mentally to write since shit I fucking cried writing this lol.

Discussion Evil past life concept

Reading the Kyoshi novels, I wondered about if there would have ever been a point where the avatar starves to death or dies of disease as a child before ever being identified. Particularly if that avatar was an orphan like kyoshi.

Imagine you die young after a life of neglect and then after dying you learn you were supposed to be the most important person in the world.

Been thinking of a story where this happens to a past life and it turns them cold to the world that otherwise was happy to let them die, and it leads to that past life essentially trying to manipulate the current avatar into carrying out their revenge on the world.

But honestly it’s just an idea. If someone else likes it and wants to run with it I say go for it!

Swordmaster Zuko

Any fics where Zuko’s skill with the sword is prominently featured? Preferably where he mixes his firebending and sword fighting styles.
