Resonance Playstyle and gameplay observation. Potential spoiler. Spoiler

Let me start off by saying that this game's setting is the MVP and I am enjoying it despite the point I'm about to make.

Combat in this game seems like an afterthought. I'm playing on normal difficulty, and I found that as long as you aren't fighting against more than two or three opponents, a very simple system is as follows.

If you simply spam dodge and get used to the opponent's fight patterns attacking becomes very easy. You don't even need to block or parry. I only lose if I get sloppy.

Does this 'cheat' go away at the higher difficulty levels?

I don't think it's the deepest combat system but I like it. It feels really quick and brutal to me, like a real sword fight, and I love elements like improvised weapons and kicks that really make you feel like a rogue rather than a soldier.

It sounds like you've kind of optimised the fun out of it. If you instead concentrate on the intended loop of parries and counter-attacks you'll enjoy it a lot more I think.

It's not about enjoyment, I'm just surprised there is a way to completely counter any enemy through spam dodging. I think the mechanics shouldn't allow a dodge if you are against a wall or cliff.

Definitely agreed that it's not a super tight combat system. Ultimately I don't think the mechanics are really the strongest part of the Plague Tale games, Amicia's stealth could be very funky as well. It's more about the story and the visuals.

Which are exceptional through about the mid-way point of my game play.

For what it's worth, at the point you're at, there's about to be a lot less combat through to the end of the game.

Really?? So it's more of a puzzle game?

Without spoiling anything there's a lot of stealth in the second half.
