Recently read a fic that had a plot twist that almost made me stop reading, but the Author wrote everyone so well that I decided to stick with it, then after a few chapters I came around. Ended up loving the twist, even if it made me slightly uncomfortable at the same time lol.

113 isn't nothing, but damn I was rly thinking the Twihards have had so many years and numbers to get creative, surely in the year of our lord 2026 I would see so much evidence of the fans wising up to threesomes... One of media's most infamous love triangles and only 113 brave souls said "hey this triangle do be triangling tho 👀💦" ???

I know it’s personal because this author gets hundreds to thousands of comments under every chapter of their fic. I’m devastated. I genuinely don’t know what I did wrong. I’ve never left a negative comment before (nor will I even if I don’t like the fic; I’m a believer in don’t like don’t read) and I’ve only made positive comments under their fics that can’t be interpreted in a negative way even if you tried. I don’t have bookmarks under my account and I haven’t written any fics so it’s not like they saw what I’ve read and judged me for it. I’m heartbroken I love this author so much…has this happened to anyone before? 😭

It's 37 chapters 200k words and going!

I saw a meme about dead dove, and at first I was like "oh no this is gonna be about someone complaining again that dead dove exists" but it wasn't and I was pleasantly surprised. But it got me thinking. Stephen King's writing, a lot of them, would be categorized as dead dove would they not? But everyone loves him and I think most horror fans would be okay with dead dove but like just hear me out.

Splatter punk exists as an anti-censorship movement for writers in the 80s right. Yeah it's gross but I think most people would say that's allowed to exist. But if you published a splatter punk novela to AO3 I guarantee there would be a twitter thread about it. I just don't understand that logic some people use. So splatter punk is okay because it's a physical book and AO3 isn't? Is that really the argument?

I really don't know how to describe this feeling I'm having or what I think is going on bc I know it's a double standard but I really don't understand why it exists. Like the 120 days of sodom book. Awful, horrific, absolutely vile and disgusting I almost threw up listening to a REVIEW of it. Does that mean it shouldn't exist? NO?? But if it was published to AO3 today you best believe you're gonna have an army of Twitter users after you.

I hope this doesn't come off as a pro vs anti debate it's more supposed to be like why do some people consider physical books "real works", but not the works posted online without physical copies. It's like everyone loves slasher movies but the second Terrifier, an indie film, is released. I'm talking about the very first one btw. How come that is suddenly "oh my god Damien Leone is secretly a horrible person that's gonna kill everyone!!!" Just bc it's indie and not made with a giant production company. Like what.

Not sure if right flair lol but I was in pretty dire straits as a younger woman. I’ve forgotten a good chunk of what happened to me in high school and university due to untreated bipolar. I read a lot of fic back then, like a LOT.

Flash forward to this year: I’ve been rewatching some of my comfort shows from back then, then moved on to reading fic. Imagine my delight when I saw “You have already left kudos here” and “Edit bookmark” on fic I really enjoyed. I got to experience the joys of a well-written story again 🥳

I have a fic that I've been posting anonymously for the past several months. It used to get quite a lot of comments compared to anything else I've written (about 10 per chapter) until suddenly everyone just ... disappeared.

For the last 6 chapters or so I would be lucky to get one comment and it's usually a bot. A part of me wants to finish the story, because I only have two chapters left. The other part feels so discouraged because all these people who followed the story from the beginning and praised the world building are just gone. I feel like I'm writing for a void.

I k now that I sound selfish and that I'm not entitled to receiving comments from anyone. But I can't help but feel completely discouraged. Even though I like the story I wrote and I want to finish it, I feel like nobody cares about it anymore, so why should I post it?

I want to know if this happened to anyone else and if you have any advice for me.

I was looking for kakashi/guy fanfics, and even tho they are not rare in absolute numbers, it's a rare pair within the fandom, which is ok, I won't conplain.

BUT I just read a 35k+ words fanfic tagged with kakashi/guy, no "background kakashi/guy", NOTHING, along side with Naruto/Sasuke. I swear, I know how fandom works, I was expecting for Sasuke/Naruto to Monopolize the story, but I wasn't expecting for Guy to appear in the last chapter for two paragraphs at MAXIMUM, and before the couple was just hinted in two lines of dialogue between kakashi and Naruto.

I would say the author tagged all relationships, but Sakura/Lee was a couple (also definitely not important, but way more talked about and mentioned), as well as clear past Naruto/Hinata, and they were not tagged

AAAARGGGGA Im just so frustrated. The fic was awesome, I really liked the concept, the way Sasuke and Naruto developed, but it's frustrating anyway. I'm fully questioning if I should add a pleas to take off the Kakashi/Guy tag in my usual flattering comment (it was, indeed, a very good work)

I've read a 30k oneshot, I've also written a 30k oneshot, but once I write past 15k I get the itch to cut it into chapters. I feel like the sweet spot for me is 8k to 13k

They all have one thing in common that I have to exclude some tags to ensure that I got some good shit

One time I saw an interesting fic in one of my favorites tags and I was going to click read before I saw it.

I'm probably going to get downvoted to hell for this, but I just wanted to share my feelings because it is really affecting me. Please just ignore this post, if you don't feel the same. I'm genuinely sad about this and don't know who to talk to, so this is the only place I could think of.

There is this oneshot I posted, which gets consistent hits, but very few kudos. Since the last kudos there have been 50 new hits without any engagement at all and it makes me feel very empty to see that.

I'm very attached to this fic and I enjoyed writing it a lot. I used some very personal experiences in it and seeing so many people click on it and leave again feels really bad. It makes me feel weirdly protective of the fic, if that makes any sense? Like I need to hide it from all the people who are clearly not enjoying it/ connecting with it. At this point I honestly regret posting it and that feels very bad.

I never care about the absolute numbers my fics get, but it does sting that I consistently get low kudos. It makes me feel like I'm shouting into the void, like I should have never posted it in the first place.

I would probably feel better if I hid the fic or deleted it, but I don't want to take it away from the readers who did enjoy it and it is also posted to a moderated collection for an event and I don't even know if I *can* hide it. (I also don't want to explain why I'm hiding it from the people who are managing the collection, so even if it is possible, it would invite questions which I really don't want to answer.)

I have a still ongoing multi chapter fic that I'm going to finish posting no matter what, but I think after that I really need to think about whether I feel comfortable sharing anything else. I'll always keep writing, but posting is genuinely hard for me. I don't want to send my fics out into the world if no one cares for them, if that makes any sense?

I'm aware that this most likely means that I'm just a really bad writer, but I still hoped that people would get something out of my work and connect with it at least a little bit, so this is genuinely sad to me.

Also: please don't tell me to hide my stats. That is not a solution for me, because I want to appreciate the kudos I do get and I don't want to hide them. If you want to tell me anything, you can tell me about positive experiences you had posting a fic. It is way more helpful to me to hear that posting a fic has made some people happy, because it makes me believe that maybe I could feel happy that I posted something at some point in the future as well.
