AIO by getting upset that I got this message the second I posted a new PFP?

This guy and I used to be close friends and coworkers. We stopped talking for a while because I was going through a lot of life changes. I never had a profile pic on Facebook because I don’t like to be too active on social media.
I’m telling you, the minute I posted a profile pic, this man messaged me. I really hated how he responded to me and it seemed like he was being rude. I just got out a long term relationship not too long ago and I’m sick of having boundaries crossed. Still trying to figure it out. So, am I overreacting for being upset?

AIO? Coworker too aggro to understand he can leave groupchat?

Post image

(edit: green scribble at the bottom was my name.)

open the image to see the full exchange. this was in a groupchat about going in on a gift together for our boss's first grandchild's baby shower, which red coworker did not participate in or reply to up until this point. He claims to be very close with our boss.

Teal coworker started the groupchat, I did not, but she told me in person she didn't think she could remove him. I showed red coworker how he could remove himself (genuinely trying to be helpful) and this was how he responded. I don't understand why.

I plan to show our boss these texts when she returns from PTO. This coworker has been increasingly disrespectful and cruel to teal coworker and me (for trying to say he shouldn't talk to her that way). He historically cannot hear "no" without crying disrespect and insubordination, but it's gotten extreme.

I've been documenting his bullying with our boss but she is minimizing the behavior and doesn't seem that concerned. I'm hoping this screenshot would help provide evidence of a hostile work environment, and ideally get him fired because he's frankly been a massive cunt lately and not even helpful at work, just mean.

He wasn't always this bad, although he has always been a bit mean and self-centered, but he had an uncle pass away unexpectedly about a month ago and it's just been getting exponentially worse since then. would I be overreacting if I try to get him fired over this and similar behavior that's happened in person? does he just need space to grieve? this feels unwarranted regardless. like just leave the groupchat dude.

AIO for leaving my husband after he left our autistic son alone in a car while gambling?

I’m 33F, married to Ryan (35M) for nine years. We have two kids, Emma (8) and Noah (6), who is nonverbal autistic and needs a lot of help in day to day activities.

Last Sunday, we were at a family birthday party when Ryan said he needed to run an errand. He took Noah with him, saying he wanted some one-on-one time with him. I didn’t think much of it because he’s been a good father.

About an hour later, I called to ask when they’d be back. He didn’t reply . I double checked his location and found out he was at a casino about 25 minutes away.

Alarmed , I drove there myself. I found our car in the parking garage with Noah alone in the back seat. The engine was running, but the doors were quite locked firmly. It was 91°F outside, and Noah was sweating profusely, crying, and had thrown up on himself.

I quickly got him out and called 911. Ryan later came outside and claimed he’d only gone in to place one quick bet. He persisted he’d planned to be gone for five minutes and had left the air conditioning running.

However, security footage showed he’d been inside for 47 minutes.

Ryan says he had totally forgotten the time he came in and never meant to leave Noah alone that long. He keeps insisting that he’s not a bad father and that I’m treating him like he internationally tried to hurt our son.

I know he loves our children, and before this even occurred , I had enough confidence in him to care for them. That’s what makes this so damn hard. But I can’t stop imagining what could have possibly downed on our son if I hadn’t checked his location.

Ryan was arrested and later released on bail. His parents believe he made a gravely mistake but say I’m overreacting by thinking about a possible divorce and custody restrictions. They think I’m letting my anger tear our family apart.

I packed a few belongings for myself and the kids and went to stay with a relative. I’ve also spoken to a lawyer about separation and custody arrangements.

Ryan wants me to come home. He says he’s eager to attend parenting classes, but he thinks involving the courts is unnecessary and that I should give him another chance.

I don’t feel easy leaving the children alone with him right now, specifically Noah. I need to know he understands how serious this was before I can even consider trusting him again.

AIO for leaving with the kids and refusing to return to normal family life until I feel confident they’re safe with him?

AIO for questioning why I have to give up my sleeping arrangements when my brother visits?

I (36M) live with my parents and have two kids. When my kids stay with me, my son sleeps in my room and my daughter uses the spare bedroom.

My brother and his family moved to Arizona less than a year ago. When they come to visit, my daughter gets moved out of the spare bedroom so my brother can sleep there. His wife and kids actually stay at their old house next door with his wife's mom and brothers, so he's the only one staying at my parents' house.

They're visiting this weekend, and tonight my daughter is sleeping in my room with me and my son. I also have two dogs, so space is already limited.

Here's where I'm confused. I have to be up at 4 a.m. for work tomorrow, and both of my kids have school. Since my daughter is taking my bed and my son has his own bed, I'm left sleeping on the floor or a cot. My mom offered an air mattress, but there's not enough room in my bedroom, and she's worried the dogs might pop it. She suggested a cot instead, but I'm six feet tall, so I'm not exactly sure how comfortable that's going to be.

What I don't understand is why my brother can't sleep on the living room couch or stay at the house next door with his wife and kids. Either option seems like it would avoid disrupting my kids' sleeping arrangements and leave me able to get a decent night's sleep before work.

I'm not trying to prevent my brother from visiting, and I'm not planning to argue with anyone about it. I just don't understand why the solution is automatically to move my daughter out of her room and have me sleep on the floor or a cot when there seem to be other options.

Am I overreacting by thinking this arrangement doesn't make much sense, or am I being selfish for questioning it?

Edit: For some context, I moved back to California from Colorado after my divorce, so I'm currently living with my parents. I'm working and raising my kids during my parenting time, and this is the living arrangement I'm in right now.

AIO: My longterm partner’s parents asked to start excluding me and my child

• Upvotes

I (48f) have been with my partner (47m) for nearly four years. He moved into my house two years ago (officially; he practically lived here for about a year before that). I’m his first real relationship, which sounds odd, I know. He’s amazing and I wasn’t sure why he’d never felt confident enough to even attempt anything … until I met his mother. She seems nice, and often is, but she was 16 when she met his father, who was 26. They had my partner when the mom was 20. She’s never had friends and so her son has been her whole life. (This isn’t an exaggeration. She has no friends. Her husband socializes at the gym nearly daily, but her pastime is walking alone around the neighborhood.) My partner lived on his own and wasn’t, like, creepily a mama’s boy for the most part, but he’d go over for dinner every week and call a lot, etc. Without a partner, his mom would be who he called when work was too stressful and such.

That changed when I came around. I’m twice-divorced and have one tween from my second marriage. (The first was a two-year thing that basically was me not feeling strong enough to say no to an abusive guy whose mom had just died. I came to my senses quickly. My second marriage was for 10 years and the pandemic brought out some paranoia and ugliness in him. It just changed him. I left because he got mean.) I had no intention of ever dating again, much less finding someone, until I met my current partner. Nothing has ever clicked like this before. We adore each other. He is so, so kind and smart and funny. I was slow to introduce him to my kid, but he fell in love with him, too, and we just all felt right as a family.

When he moved in, his mom freaked, saying we weren’t married and she was losing him as a son. It was weird for me. Dude was in his 40s, wtf. But he said, look, this is what’s right for us, and I’ll still come to visit plenty. (They live a half-hour away on the other side of town.) His intention was to swing by for dinner maybe every other week. She apologized and backed down.

Family life is, of course, demanding, and we both have demanding jobs, so he didn’t pull off every other week but we would go over at least once a month for dinner. Everyone seemed to be getting along. I was heartened by how they treated my kiddo. It felt like a family unit. My partner would routinely get sappy after those dinners and say things like, I love my little family.

Fast forward to yesterday. The partner could sense his mom was antsy to see him so he offered for us to come by for dinner. On the phone Wednesday, she sounded put out and said she wanted to see just him alone more. He said sure, no problem, we’ll all come by for dinner Thursday and how about I swing by again Tuesday? She passive-aggressively said fine, but then the next morning, she called and began the conversation with, “I just got back from church where I prayed for you because you’re the antichrist.” He was like … what?! Then the floodgates opened. He’s turned his back on the church because he doesn’t go anymore (he’s been agnostic since college and only occasionally went before I came along, not because he believed but because the church near his apartment was peaceful). He doesn’t make time for his parents anymore (he talks to his mom a few times a week on the phone and we see them for dinner every few weeks). She’ll never be a grandmother because he’s an only child, but she swears she’s made peace with that, yet for some reason mentioned it anyway? (a particularly hurtful thing to say right now because she knows I had a hysterectomy *three weeks ago* for medical reasons that she should understand because she herself had a hysterectomy for similar medical reasons).

My partner, who’s been running the household since my surgery, broke down, crying. He’s the nicest guy. I hate to see him cry. So I called his mom back and said, “Why is the nicest man I know crying in my kitchen because his mother called him the antichrist?” The conversation was a lot of me standing up for him, her being a friggin’ weirdo saying she’s lost her son, me saying we see you regularly and I’m not standing in the way of him going over more alone but *he likes it when we’re all together* and that’s why we usually come along.

He went over alone afterward to talk things through. They just kept saying they want to see him more, without me and my kiddo, but they insist they love us and they understand we’re his family now, too.

I am emotionally spent. I don’t trust her anymore. I’m most concerned about my kiddo, of course, who’s an aloof almost-teen but who’s known them as sorta grandparents for four years now. None of his real grandparents live anywhere close. I don’t want to rip them away but also don’t want to expose him to people who could take or leave him. I don’t want them in my house. I don’t want to go over unless it’s a special event like Christmas. I don’t feel welcome, and I don’t like them enough anymore to try to pretend. I’ll talk to a therapist about how to deal with all this but right now, I’m furious.

So … AIO?

AIO for calling my best friend insecure after she compared our looks?

I (18F) have a best friend (20F) who I've known for almost 5 years. We met in school and were pretty much inseparable until we graduated. Then we started different colleges and unfortunately can't see each other everyday as we were used to.

Obviously, we've shared a lot of stuff with each other over the years, like stories about guys who confessed their feelings for me. Just to be clear, I'm not looking for a relationship and I don't really do anything to attract guys either. I'm just not emotionally ready for anything beyond friendship rn.

And I wasn't telling her these stories to brag or anything. Quite the opposite actually. I always found these situations pretty upsetting because I'd have to reject the guy, and more often than not, that meant losing someone I genuinely considered a friend.

Anyway, we had this conversation yesterday and tbh I have no idea what to think.

The thing is, she's not exactly wrong. She's definitely more outgoing than me and I'd say she's more conventionally attractive too. Not that I really care about that stuff. I couldn't care less what my friends look like.

But I'm still pretty pissed off, mainly because she's NEVER said anything like this to me before. And also, even if you genuinely think you're prettier than your best friend, who tf actually says that to their face??

Idk, maybe I'm taking it too personally, but the whole conversation left a really bad taste in my mouth.

I will definitely speak to her online. Seen to many friendships ruined by clumsy online chats.

AIO my brother came to "surprise me" and didnt bother to see me at all

• Upvotes

Quick context I (29f) and my brother (31m) have always been very close never fought always just two peas

We have different dads

My dad is awesome wanted to adopt my brother and was involved but had a drinking issue

My mom well she didnt really want to do the work of having kids

At least with me.

My brother's dad he died last year but was never involved and never paid child support

My mom when w were kids took us from nfld to ON on a vacation and decided to not come back

Well thats bacially kidnapping your own kid amd she gave me back no fuss on one condition she didnt have to pay a dime for me

Fast forward to when I was 19 I moved to ON to be closer and have more opportunities

At this point my brother hadn't spoken to my dad without a push from me(one time) in YEARS

WELL

My brother has a 5 year old

That dates me back to 24

I spent all my free time helping when I could

By my last year in Ontario I was spending my fridays taking care of their kid and making meals for my brother who worked 16 hr days

Ive also bent over backwards helping our mom deal with 3 house purchases (due to failing to pay tbe last) and move to nfld and through her recent divorce ive looked at 500+ cars for her

My boyfriend helped fix her house and she hates him and talked about us to my brother like were a hindrance

So what happened?

I got pregnant in August 2025

We moved back to nfld nov she told us to move in and help and she will help us

Well we came back to 2000 dollars in built up electricity bills, a couple who tore doors off hinges fighting and I had ti break them up 6 months pregnant?

Where was my brother? Ottawa doing his thing not even answering a text

Flash forward they came back to "surprise me" and see my baby who is now 4 months old

The second we walked in it was like we were a burden

I was supposed to go get my moms dog sue said her friends were coming I showed up the dog was ready (so clearly they didnt want me to stay) and my brother walks out

Him his gf and his kod didnt look us in the eyes

We felt very uncomfortable and left

Next day they went to gander no invite

Following day I asked that they come see our new house we have

INSTEAD THEY DROVE PAST OUR HOUSE TO GO SEE MY DAD IN MY HOUSE I GREW UP IN AND DIDNT INVITE ME. okay its one thing if you wanna fo your own thing I have a 4 month old Ill habe to fuck off anyway but to not even invite me to my own hometown (55 people live there... yes 55) but you went to se my dad for the first time n years with my nephew ive talked about and raved about to him

Dont you think as a new mom id want to go? Dont you think id want to introduce my nephew to my dad? Why would you drive past us and not even think about us? My aunt would never she treats me loke her own kid

Side note my mom raised my brother in Ontario I was raised in nfld by my dad if that helps

I felt totally disrespected

They didn't hold my son

Didnt look at him

Drove past us to see MY dad in MY childhood home

My brother claimed he had all these memories he left when he was 5 came back once and said he HATED NFLD and didnt want to be associated with it

So I am I overreacting to this crap? Am I just freshly postpartum and making mountains out of mole hills or what

Also if it helps were in newfoundland with a lot of small communities and one highway they have to pass our house and nit text us

Also they had a christmas for his son which I got gifts for (its thanks giving why are we doing xmas??? ) and my son got nothing

Insight please

This all seems very pointed

Seems intentional when youre going to see my dad and my childhood best friend before you see your nephew and your own sister for any reasonable time

AIO for telling my partner to give me some space after she wanted money literally within an hour of my mom getting her handbag snatched

• Upvotes

So about an hour ago I got a call from my sister saying that my mother had been a victim of a robbery, 2nd time within the last two years she’s had her bag snatched. My partner and I know just how badly it traumatised my mother and our family around her since we are all rather close. So I call my partner to tell her to rearrange plans for the weekend as I wanted to spend some time with my mother. She had no issue was this and also gave me some advice on how to deal with it. I get a text like 5 mins later saying “how will I pay for my facial tomorrow since you’re not going and I don’t have any money “. I immediately just told her to give me some space, she’s replying with crying voice notes now…..

AIO to my husband calling me silly and childish for crying post partum?

My husband, 38M, and I 35F, just had our second child. I had an emergency c-section 3 weeks before he was due, and he had a 2 week NICU stay. When he was born, he had hydrops amongst several other problems due to decreased oxygen in the womb. Because he was recovering for a while from all this, he is a bit behind hitting his 'milestones.' During my maternity leave he mostly slept and we didn't have the opportunity to interact with each other beyond snuggling and feeding before I had to return to work.

My mother in law is staying with us for a few months to take care of baby while I work. Hes started to look around and babble and coo now. In the last week or so, he's started to prefer her to everyone else. I understand this, as I'm away from home 10 or more hours a day, and she's his caregiver while I'm away. It doesn't make it any less painful. Lately, he's been crying uncontrollably as soon as I hold him. He's absolutely inconsolable. If I hand him over to my MIL, he's immediately calm. This has been heartbreaking for me. I will try for an hour or more to calm him down before letting MIL take him.

Last night, I got home late from work, same sort of thing. I take the baby, he cries and cries, I give him back. I was so overwhelmed that I said to my husband, 'he hates me,' with tears in my eyes. I know this is dramatic. He doesn't hate me. But gosh does it feel like that lately. My husband looked at me with zero empathy, said nothing. I took the baby outside to try to calm him with a new environment. When I came back in a few minutes later, my husband had gone to bed. He didn't say goodnight, didn't try to offer any comfort. Fine. I stayed up a while, baby was eventually calm, and we went to bed.

My husband gets up for work early, so I didn't see him this morning. I texted him and told him it felt really bad that he went to bed without saying anything and that he didn't try to comfort me. He replied, "To be honest, I thought it was silly and childish that you said [baby] hates you and that you cried about it like that. I don't know what you want me to do to comfort you."

This makes me feel crazy. I feel alone and misunderstood and like I don't know what I'm even doing with this relationship. Why doesn't he understand me? Will it always feel like this?? I'm honestly questioning everything and it feels so awful to do that. Am I just reading into it too much? AIO?

AIO for thinking he is looking for "better" option or still having feelings for his ex?

I (26F) met a guy (37M) online a year ago. We met in person in December 2025 and were intimate. Since then, we've talked almost daily, sometimes for hours. He's affectionate, shares everything with me, and there's still sexual tension. He started all of this with good morning's every day and goodnight's, and texting me non stop. Like literally. Calling me sweet names and stuff.

Initially, he talked about our future and me moving to his country. Three months after meeting, he said he didn't want a relationship and needed to work on himself. Since then, he's repeatedly postponed meeting and says, "We'll see." Everytime I ask. I travelled to him first time. And he always says "I don't know" "We will see" "in two weeks"

Recently, I bought a ticket to visit him because things seemed to be going well. He exploded, screamed that I couldn't come, said he never wanted to see me again, and threatened to block me. A few hours later, he apologized, saying he values me, enjoys talking to me, and doesn't want to lose our friendship, but doesn't know what he wants. He admitted he can be selfish and treat me badly when overwhelmed. His anger issues are common, he often screams on the phone and then apologizes saying he shouldn't be talking like that. Everytime we talk about meeting he gets angry.

He refunded my ticket when I asked next day.

His message:

I want to apologize to you, and I really appreciate the fact that you always have time for me, that you always care about me, and honestly, it’s really rare to meet someone like that. I’m aware of that. Whatever the reason for it might be, it’s hard to find someone who will listen to your bullshit for 8 hours. I don’t want to end our friendship, that’s not what this is about. To be honest, I don’t even know what to do with my life at this point. When you put pressure on me like that, some kind of defense mechanism kicks in or something, I don’t know. Afterwards I feel guilty about the way I talk to you, because you don’t deserve that. I don’t want to behave like that, because afterwards I feel really bad about it.

I like talking to you. Not always — sometimes I shut myself off, I have my own stuff going on in my head. I know that sometimes I’m selfish and only think about myself. If you’re able to accept our relationship the way it was, and it gives you something too, then we can obviously keep talking the way we used to. But I don’t know what’s going to happen. It’s not about what you think, whether I’ll meet someone or I won’t — that’s not what this is about. And it’s not like you’re...

You’re not nobody to me, you know a lot about me, I tell you a lot. I treat you like a friend, even though I guess I behave differently — but you noticed that at some point. I don’t know, I just wanted to write you a little bit about what I think. I don’t know if it makes sense, but there’s always something you can take from it. 😅 I think I owe you that, because I’m always shouting at you whenever you ask me about something, so I thought that today I’d give you a little bit of my time and actually open up.

You can see how I get when I’m in a certain state — I sing, I talk haha, but afterwards it can also get pretty difficult, like today. Honestly, I was just crying over all of this. But it’s probably the after-effects of the weekend. I haven’t been drinking since I got back, and I don’t want to for now, or anything else either. I’m finding it harder and harder to deal with sometimes.

Sometimes I think it would be best to isolate from everyone and just live like that, because relationships with people affect me pretty strongly. But on the other hand, the thought of being completely alone, not having someone who knows you and all that, scares me. I think about that sometimes, which is why, when it comes to taking care of valuable relationships, I think I know what you mean. One day they might be priceless.

I think I’ve gone crazy haha. I did smoke, to be fair, but I don’t think I wrote anything stupid. I just wanted to explain a little bit — what I think and what’s going on in my head. Maybe it’s a little chaotic, but there’s probably something to take from it. 😅

And I don’t want you to take this message as me saying, “We can talk, but we’re never going to meet.” That’s not what I’m saying — who knows. 😅

I explained that his affection and past promises gave me hope, but it's good to know where I'm standing on. I told him it's weird because even if he was slightly interested, he would meet with me. He said he didn't want to discuss it yet. The next morning, he sent playful voice messages saying, "You don't like me anymore!" and kept seeking reassurance that I still liked him.

He called me twice this week and continues texting, but I'm no longer showing much affection. I don't want late-night conversations or to fall asleep on the phone anymore.

He often, nonstop, talks about himself, his life, and his problems without asking about me, my life, or my needs. He also used to mention women staring at or flirting with him on the train. He displays what I perceive as narcissistic traits, although I can't know whether he has any disorder.

He uses drugs, sometimes drinks heavily, struggles mentally, calls himself worthless, and says he feels unworthy of love. He's also still in contact with his ex, who moved abroad to live with him after knowing him for only a month. I sometimes wonder whether I'm a rebound or filling the emotional void she left. They broke up 4 years ago.

He's planning to visit my country because his family lives here and dental treatment is cheaper. He mentioned wanting to visit more often but never suggested seeing me. I sarcastically replied, "Cool, meet your friends and family," and he laughed because he understood the irony. Instead, he made vague comments about how we might smoke weed together in person someday, adding, "Who knows?"

I feel like his unpaid therapist: I provide emotional support, companionship, affection, and reassurance, while he avoids commitment and concrete plans. He says I'm valuable to him but only sees me as a friend, yet continues acting affectionate and seeking validation.

He is divorced for years, has kids at my country. He had an ex I mentioned after that. He doesn't live with anyone, he sends me voice messages / picks up when I call in the evenings. So he is either still having feelings for his ex (well he said she wanted to get back together but he didn't want to) or waiting for better option.

Why does he want my attention and reassurance if he doesn't want a relationship?

EDIT: And he just told me today he is going to Mallorca for work, he does house renovations and they fly him from another country there which seems weird but ok.
And I told him to party and have a good time and he said "you're jealous haha" and I said "about a friend? nooo hahha" And he said "ok"
Lmao

AIO: Friend always mentions the creep that was into me

As someone who has a hard time decoding other people’s intentions and reasonings, why is my close guy friend acting this way.. I’m not super upset by it, but curious. Here’s what happened: about four months ago an older classmate (university student) of ours sent me unwanted inappropriate messages, which then I told him not to and it ended there. I told my guy friend about this and although I never really bring it up anymore he always comments about the older guy: when we were watching a movie the couple was making out and he mentioned the older guy during that scene, he would ask me if that guy still messages me, says it makes him depressed to think about that guy (I told him not to worry about it), randomly brings him up when we’re out shopping or whatever saying that he hope we don’t bump into him, if a car looks like that guys car he would point it out), he would say “he was probably down bad for you.” I know my guy friend sees me as only a friend because he says so, but then why someone act like this. Bringing it up at least every week. Is he that worried.. I don’t know if it’s the right thing to get upset about just confused and don’t know if I’m thinking it too deeply lol.

AIO: For telling my husband not to come back home after an argument and deciding that I’m done with our marriage?

My soon to be ex-husband and I got into an argument over something that might seem small, but it was about more than just what happened that day. For about two weeks, he had been telling me that he was going to give me whatever money he had left over from his paycheck to help me buy our daughter a bunk bed. I literally never asked him to do this. He offered on his own. He had worked around 53+ hours that week while I kept our kids. I also work full time. When payday came and he told me he got less money than he expected and probably wouldn’t be able to give me anything, I was upset because he had been saying this for weeks voluntarily. He often say things and not follow through on his words.

When I tried explaining why I was upset, telling him idk, it’s just the principle for me and so on. His response was basically, “ok, I don’t know what to tell you.” He kept repeating “ok, alright. I thought I’ll just let you know” and being dismissive instead of actually having a conversation with me.

He had also just paid a $553 phone bill after his phone had been disconnected for a week, which added to the frustration because I don’t understand how his phone bill is that high.

Things escalated and he started yelling, cursing and hanging up on me, which is something that has happened during our arguments before. This is where the real issue comes in. It’s not just about the money or the bunk bed. It’s about how he treats me whenever we have a disagreement and how difficult it becomes to have a productive conversation when I’m upset about something. I was trying to talk. He just started yelling, hanging up (I’ll call back numerous times trying to talk) he yelling and telling me go to talk to my mom or something and hang up in my face again. He doesn’t know why I feel like I need to get everything off my chest to him but he doesn’t want to hear it.

Any time he face hardships, this is the type of attitude I’m met with. When he was having car troubles, high phone bill, not being able to find a sitter, he be nasty, blame me for it and calling me not supportive if I’m upset by it but when things are good he acts if he wants to be together forever. When things are hard for him? He doesn’t care about me or whether I left or stayed.

This has been an ongoing issue in our marriage. When he gets upset, he can become dismissive, yell, curse, hang up, or shut me out. Historically, I’ve been the one chasing him afterward, blowing up his phone, trying to stop him from leaving, wanting to talk things out, taking him back after he moved out and went to his parents, entertaining his texts after he have left. I’ve repeatedly tried to keep the relationship together, even when I was the one who was hurt. He claims I always threaten to leave but in the spite of all that, I stayed around and tried to make it work.

I’ve expressed to him before that I don’t see things improving long term and this argument happened just a week after that convo. So I told him not to come back here and that I wanted us to start putting things in motion to dissolve our marriage.

His response was, “I don’t care. At least I won’t have the threats of us being done over my head all the time.”

Later, he texted me that he was coming to get some clothes and his iPad and that he didn’t want any commotion. I stayed in our daughter’s room because I didn’t want to see or speak to him. Afterward, he texted me, “Thanks for letting me get my stuff with no issues. I won’t bother you from here on out.”

I didn’t respond.

Now I’m left thinking AIO.

AIO? My mother rarely lets me go out with friends

Im 21F, I turned turned this october. Now I have never been the kind of person to want to leave my home or do stuff very much, I've always been anti social, but recently due to my mental health degrading I figured it would do me some good to get out the house reunite with school friends from middle/high school that were super close with me. We made this plan a month in advance, and I informed my mother and sister. Both of them were fine with it (side note, I'm the youngest of my family, and also my mother has my location on TWO seperate apps)

well, 2 weeks in advance I remind both of them and my mother flips a lid on me, or gets very upset with me claiming I did not inform her of this and how she "barely sees me, how was I supposed to know?"

I told her while we were both in our kitchen, when I point hat out she says "prove it".

HUH?

The plans being made are just for mobile alabama, (we live in the bible belt. mobile alabama is about 30m from my house).

Now I assume my mother told my father, this is 100% on me, she usually does tell him but I know I should have actively told him instead of leaving it up to chance.

The thing is it feels really unfair that I can't go out to hang out with my own friends while my mother has TWO apps that track my location, all because shes scared of who I'm "hanging out with"

(second side note, the only extended time I've ever been allowed to spend away from my family was in a mental hospital for a week for wanting to OOF)

The trip was supposed to be today, but I'm genuinely starting to second guess myself and considering just backing out.

Is it a red flag that my significant other did his own circumcision? AIO about this? NSFW

He did it by cutting a hole out a plastic lid and cut off the circulation till the foreskin fell off. That seems super dramatic.

He told me when I asked his biggest secret.

AIO? Is this a reason to run or should I except it. I was to freaked out to ask him why he did it.

This isn't a serious relationship yet I am recently separated.

AIO if I move out?

i’m a college student and feeling really lost and just want some perspective on this. some context: my mom suffers from chronic mental illness so i live mainly with my dad and stepmom and younger siblings. however, after i graduated high school, they moved 6 hours from my hometown to live with my stepmom’s parents. to be blunt, i hate the area. i feel so suffocated by my parents. i had a health issue this past summer and they showed a complete lack of understanding, trying to convince me to “drink water” and “sleep more” and “take ibuprofen”, meanwhile i had a huge health issue that was later confirmed and i needed to get surgery for. my dad loves to make passive-aggressive comments about how i should be working on scholarships during the little time i have to write (i am a published author and i do take my writing seriously). this past summer i worked as a babysitter for my cousins, aged 3 and 6. it was horrible. i hated it. they were not well-behaved and i did not have fun at all. my mental health plummeted. i really struggled with suicidal thoughts and even tried to commit suicide at one point. i went to my dad crying. he said i was being dramatic and attention-seeking for trying to do that. would barely give me a hug. i asked several times to go to therapy and was refused.

on the other hand, my parents do a lot for me. recently my stepmom drove 6 hours total just to drop off my passport since i have a flight soon, which was really sweet. i love my siblings so much.

my boyfriend’s family is the opposite. the kindest people i have ever met and they treat me as their daughter. my boyfriend wants me to go there for the summer since we are both worried about my mental health. (this will be my last summer before graduating.) i am definitely a peacekeeper type of person and don’t want to rile anyone up. this would be scandalous, because even though we would be sleeping in separate bedrooms, supervised by his parents, and basically existing as siblings, i know it would be seen as “living with my bf” and my parents are super strict about that stuff. i am worried i would legit be disowned or not able to speak to my siblings who i love more than anything. is it worth it?

i’m so scared to talk to his mom about this but i feel like i know she would let me stay. he’s told her things about my parents and she really feels for me. he feels pretty confident i could get a job, and they also have an extra car and there’s a lot to do in town (where he works) so he could drive me to work there too. i also have friends in this area and he supports me really well so it seems like a really solid option. right now we’ve only been dating a year (by then it’ll be 1.5) but are really serious and i am confident we’ll still be together, but i did talk to him about what we’d do if we did end up breaking up. he was very clear that this won’t happen, but he would support me regardless and i would still have a place there. we could exist peacefully and separate if needed.

so should i stick it out at home or try moving forward with the plan with my boyfriend?

tldr: my mental health suffers consequences when living with my parents, but is it worth it to try to stay with my boyfriend or should i just tough it out for one more summer to keep the peace?

AIO Husband doesn’t ask questions

So, me and my husband been together 3 years. I’m a yapper by nature but lately I haven been seeing how he doesn’t ask me questions like “how was your day” or “how your grandma with cancer?” Or “how’s your dad that fracture he’s leg?” Etc.

It has bothered me and we have talked about it so much, he usually tells me that it’s because he alr knows I will tell him and I tell him that it’s because he never asks. So I proceed to not tell him anything for a while and HE STILL DIDNT ASK about nothing.

I got diagnosed with cervical cancer and I’m having surgery tomorrow and he hasn’t asked me once, “how are you feeling? “ or “are you nervous” etc. when I confront him it usually ends up in a “I don’t know why” and a I’m sorry.

But this has made me spiral… I have been thinking like what does this mean? Is this normal? I know I’m not asking for too much and I told him . It also confuses me because once I put the conversation in the table he engages and stuff but he doesn’t ask like follow up questions much.

Overall he’s not like narcissistic, abusive or like a bad guy. He’s truly really nice and cool, he’s also a veteran Air Force, served 7 years and I’m he’s first and only girlfriend (I didn’t believe it until I went through he’s phone one time lol and also he’s family/ friends said he’s never introduced any girl, not even a casual friend to anyone.)

I feel like the more that I push for this closure the further away he gets

UPDATE: AIO for asking my roommate's boyfriend to chip in on bills after he basically moved in?

First of all, thank you to everyone who commented on my original post. I honestly didn't expect so many responses, but reading them helped me realize that asking someone who's practically living in our apartment to contribute isn't unreasonable.

Unfortunately, things got a little more complicated.

For context, my roommate's boyfriend, Marcus, has been staying at our apartment around six nights a week. He showers here, works from our living room, keeps his belongings in our bathroom, and has his own key.

When I suggested he contribute $60 toward utilities, my roommate called me stingy.

Well, two days after my post, I decided to sit down with my roommate again.

I told her I wasn't trying to make Marcus feel unwelcome. I actually like him, and we've never had any personal problems.

I just didn't think it was fair that our original agreement was between two people, but our apartment was now being used by three.

She immediately got defensive.

She told me I was exaggerating how often Marcus stayed over and that he wasn't technically living with us because he still had his own apartment.

So I asked her a simple question.

"If he's just visiting, why does he have his own key?"

She didn't really have an answer.

Instead, she said I was making her choose between her boyfriend and her roommate.

That wasn't what I wanted at all.

I explained that I wasn't asking Marcus to pay rent or move out. I was asking for $60 a month toward bills that had noticeably increased since he started staying here.

She told me she'd talk to him.

The next evening, Marcus knocked on my bedroom door and asked if we could talk.

I was expecting another argument, but surprisingly, he was pretty calm.

He told me my roommate had explained the situation and that he felt uncomfortable knowing I thought he was taking advantage of me.

I told him I didn't think he was intentionally doing anything wrong. I just wanted us to have a fair arrangement.

Then he said something that genuinely surprised me.

He told me he had no idea our electricity bill had increased that much, and that my roommate had told him I was upset because I didn't want him around anymore.

I explained that wasn't true.

I even showed him the bills from before and after he started staying regularly.

He looked embarrassed and apologized.

He offered to pay $80 a month toward utilities instead of $60 because he knew he used the electricity while working from home.

For a moment, I thought everything was finally resolved.

But when my roommate found out we'd spoken directly, she was furious.

She accused me of going behind her back and making Marcus feel guilty.

I reminded her that Marcus had approached me, not the other way around.

She then said that if I was going to be so particular about money, we should start splitting absolutely everything based on individual usage.

I told her that was fine with me.

Apparently, she wasn't expecting that answer.

The following day, she sent me a long message saying our friendship had changed and that she no longer felt comfortable living with someone who kept track of what everyone owed.

That honestly hurt.

We've been friends for years, and I never imagined a conversation about $60 would turn into something this personal.

I told her I wasn't keeping score. I was simply asking us to revisit an agreement that no longer reflected our living situation.

Since then, Marcus has transferred me $80 for this month's utilities, and he also offered to contribute toward shared household supplies.

My roommate hasn't spoken to me much.

Yesterday, she mentioned that she and Marcus might look for their own place when our lease ends.

I told her I'd understand if that's what they wanted.

But I also made it clear that until then, I expected us to communicate respectfully and stick to whatever financial arrangement we agreed on.

The strangest part is that Marcus and I seem to have resolved the issue without any real conflict, while my roommate is acting like I've betrayed her.

I'm relieved that the bills are being handled more fairly, but I'm genuinely sad about what this has done to our friendship.

I never wanted to make anyone feel unwelcome in their own home.

I just wanted to stop feeling like a guest in mine.

TL;DR: I spoke to my roommate again about her boyfriend staying six nights a week. She got defensive, but Marcus approached me himself, apologized, and offered to contribute $80 a month toward utilities. Now my roommate is angry that we discussed it without her and is considering moving out when our lease ends. The money issue is mostly resolved, but our friendship might not be.

AIO UPDATE: I’m getting kicked out

• Upvotes

So the next day after what had happened, they left earlier in the day to go to a museum. I gathered all my things and took an uber to the bus station to go back home which was 4hrs away. They kept calling and texting me telling me I need to be up and ready before the concert. I told my mom I didn’t want to talk after what they did and needed space. I had blocked both of their numbers.

The following day they came back home. I had my room locked, but they came straight in yelling at me. Her boyfriend came in and snatched a pillow I was using and was calling me all types of names, a bum, piece of shit, etc. My mom was mad and crying saying how could I be so disgusting to accuse them of such a thing. Her boyfriend yelled I’ve got 3 months.

I’m currently looking for places to rent with roommates now.

AIO for (slightly) refusing service to costumers who are misogynistic towards me?

• Upvotes

My job is almost like costumer service but in a restaurant. I am a server.

As the title says, at my job many costumers (mostly women than men) say they don’t believe anything I tell them because I’m a young woman. For more context, if a costumer has a question I do my best to answer their question and I’ve literally gotten costumers who have flat out told me that they’d don’t think I know what I’m doing because I am a woman. And young. Many people think I’m also lying about working there.

After going back and forth with trying to assist the costumer, I will walk away and bring my other coworkers who are men and older than me.

Then I will end up getting complaints from costumers that I am rude and unkind.

Recently this old lady had a question about her bill. She had a coupon for a free appetizer but she claimed she didn’t see it on her bill and that she got charged twice for it. I literally showed her the discount that showed up on her bill and she said that clearly I was lying and she’d rather have a man who knew what he was doing take care of her.

I walked away without saying anything and brought my coworker over who did the exact same thing as me.. he showered her she had gotten the discount and she thanked him, and starting telling him that I was unhelpful and that I didn’t show her the discount on the bill (which, I literally did), and then complained to him that I was rude to her and that I’m apparently lying about being a server. She just kept ranting about how I was very rude to her.. so on and so forth.

I was going back and forth with her originally and I’ve been at my job for little over half a year now. This isn’t the first time I’ve done it, not just to her but to others. I walk away, get somebody else to serve them, the costumer ends up happy but then complains to the management about how rude I am and that I should be fired.

One time I had gotten an old man who told me that women like me deserve to be put to work more so that men could rest. I was silent when serving him and he complained that I was rude.

I then once had an old lady who said that instead of being a server I should’ve been the janitor instead because back in her day women served men, and constantly cleaned up after people, etc.

AIO for refusing to lend my sister money because of what she said about me?

• Upvotes

My sister asked to borrow money, and i told her i couldn’t afford it. She got upset and told our family i’m selfish and never help anyone.

A few days later, she needed money again. This time, i told her to ask the same family members who agreed that i was selfish.

Now my mum says i’m being petty and turning a small issue into a family problem.

i know i'm not selfish for saying no, i refuse to suddenly become useful when she needs something. AIO?

Aio or is my roommate actually a stalker?

My wife and i have a female roommate. She is a friend of my wife’s the go so the same gym. This woman has acted odd since say one of moving in. Nothing super major but enough that it caught attention. Watching me work, randomly changing, her music tastes to mine, finding reasons to ask for help. So 4 years in she now getting close even to our families.
First stalkerish red flag im talking about my old business and she gets excited “ya i remember that place i miss it i used to go there and just look around” and proceeded to to describe my shop in detail. I used to always work in the back and didn’t pay attention to the customers much i had employees for that. I also closed the shop 10 years before my wife ever met her.
Red flag number 2 her and my wife are trying to figure out exactly when the first met my wife discussed an event that happened at the gym and she replied that wasn’t it we met on Halloween you came in wearing a costume. My wife does make a habit of walking around in costumes but the costume she described was specific to a Halloween party we went to thats the only time she wore it because it didn’t fit properly.
Red flag number 3 my nieces were over and one of them brought up the fact that I worked for in door kids only amusement park. She mentioned that she remembered that that she used to take her kids there and i gave them free stuff(i gave random kids tokens if i needed specific items tested) her kids however were older and to be the age that they were admitted into the park would have put them going the year my wife and i got married long before they ever met.
Now the newest red flag. We had a family party and we did a family trivia game. She answered questions about me and my family that members of my own family don’t know.

AIO: my sister went through my mum's messages to look at her chat with my partner. She also said she wants to meet him alone

My sister confronted me by telling me that my partner 'doesn't care' about my mum because he forgot to reply to my mum's message. My partner has other ways in which he shows he cares e.g: he visited my mum in hospital and always pays when we go out to eat with my mum (and sister). So I told her just because he isn't good at texting does not mean he does not care. In response she said I'm a pick me for being defensive over a man. Mind you, I had already cleared up this text message situation with my mum.

The reason she even found out is because she went through the messages on my mum's phone and clicked on his chat. I find this so intrusive. Mind you we are grown ass adults (I'm 30 and she's 31). Being involved in a situation like this as an adult feels pathetic.

She also said 'you should be fine with me meeting your man alone'. She did not even ask. Just told me I should be fine with something I did not even have time to think about. Am I overreacting by finding this bizarre and intrusive?

AIO for being upset that my sister is on meds

• Upvotes

Content warning :mentions of depression, su!cidal thoughts, anxiety, trauma

I a (16F) am upset and feel like Im crashout cause my sister (20F) is on medication.

This is just background information: I was diagnosed with major depressive and anxiety disorder in June this year. It got so bad that my doctor recommended I completely sit out of school this year and should visit a hospital cause my su!cidal thoughts are a danger to myself (sadly all the public hospitals here won't help me and we dont have the money for private ones). He gave me 2 antidepressants and one for anxiety but I'll just call them the antidepressants all together. During this time I had the very high fever cause of a seriously bad flu and had fainted which made my mom believe it was the antidepressants not the obviously very high fever.

Besides that my relatives had been convincing her to not let me take the medication because it'll make me go "crazy" cause apparently they know a guy who was on some type of meds and went crazy (he probably wasn't on the right ones or had an undiagnosed issue). At the time I was 15 and had my medication taken away from me and told "Jesus will help you" and given advice to "just not be a anxious, dont think about it". When I confided in my sisters on how unfair this was, she sided with my family.

Fast forward to now I'm 16, legally they can't withhold my medication in my country and I find out the SAME sister who sided with my family is on medication now. To me it feels so hypocritical and the worst part is they didn't even tell me, they tried to make it ambiguous but I heard them talking about pills and when I asked if shes sick they said "something like that" I know it's meds cause she recently went to the psych ward (she got into a fight with a girl who attacked her and the girl bit her which gave her like trauma, her counselor suggested she visit the hospital)

I have tried to be there for my sister during this time even though she has never told me anything herself, I had to find out from other people that she was in the psych ward, that she even got into a fight and now even this. I really feel like I'm at breaking point with this, she agrees with the people (not doctors btw) that took MY medication away cause of some stereotype superstition and then start taking medication and dont even have tell me.

Am I overreacting? It's not that I dont want my sister to get better, its the how my own sister sided with them that it'll make me "crazy" and is now taking medication aswell WITH my family supporting her and doesn't even have the balls to tell me. I'm sorry if I am overreacting or hurting anyone with this post, I dont have anyone to talk to about this in my life.

edit:I found out about btw on call by accident cause I joined the gc call late while they were talking about the pills in question. My other oldest sister who was the most vocal on me not taking my medication "cause it won't help" telling her to take her meds and asking about her dosage....she never even asked about mine

AIO for thinking the reels my husband sends my sister are disrespectful to me

The reel was a man holding a buzz lightyear toy with the context “When you show each other your toys”. He had a surprised expression implying that his girl was holding a sex toy while he was just holding an actual toy. I know it’s nothing serious but I just feel uncomfortable about him sending it to my sister. I confronted him and he said that it’s not that big of a deal and that it’s just a light hearted joke and they always send stuff like that and that I’m overreacting. But, idk I feel uncomfortable knowing he’s sending such reels to my sister, I just wanna know if this is normal and if I’m just overreacting. My sister is an adult btw not a minor.
