Being a contrarian and despising authority. Especially if the rules are dumb

If it's something I dislike, give me STEP BY STEP instructions. If it's something I'm interested in, fuck off.

I started work at a law firm for the first time and everyone was like “I hate dictation, it’s so hard” and I was thinking… okay… so I learned it bc I love my job and wanna know everything and it’s literally… someone telling me exactly what to do and how to do it, and coming from accounting where my instructions were “follow last year’s workpapers from a guy we fired because he was fucking useless, if you have any questions I’ll get back to you in 8-9 business months” I was like man, I LOVE DICTATION

I don’t need crystal clear instructions. I need to know the WHY. I need to understand what I’m doing. Cause I never ever ever ever just do as told.
I OWN what I do. I’m responsible. Or I don’t do it.
I’m not trying to be annoying.

ok, i have the same problem, but i be an asshole here:
you only can ask for the why and an explanation, because you have got the time.
you do stuff, you learn by doing over months or even years.
no one is going to explain anything to you, because no one gots the time.
deal with it, it is the reality of life.
you are chasing dreams if you think anyone gives a damn about anything else than money and you getting a proper education for something that costs a lot, instead people can just use your highly evolved human brain like harness a horse to a carriage and yell at you, if you did the task wrong.Yeah, and that be why i'm unemployed.

You haven't found the right job then - people like us might seem annoying if you look at it superficially, in reality in the right position we can be invaluable. Might need some time until people, and especially your superiors, recognize that, but when they will, you get a lot of free reign and respect. If they won't, i'd say fuck em and move on.

Okay I’m gonna spend about 8 hours on work that nobody asked for and then gives me the blank stare of fear when I attempt why I spent 8 hours on this one thing that nobody asked for.

It's very often not our fault for being contradictive like the meme suggests. There's an important line between giving clear instructions and micromanaging. Many people are just bad at identifying it. Basically if we assume an IKEA manual like screnario: Don't tell me how to screw these two boards together, I'm not an idiot and have used a screwdriver before - do tell me which screws are for which board, and whether the boards are symmetric or if I need to really find the right one, etc.
And then you get an NT person who criticises the angle you hold the screwdriver in, and complains that you screwed a left board to the right side.

I don't necessarily need detailed instructions, I need to know what you want for the end goal and in some cases why or if a certain method is needed why that method. However explaining the circumstances where I need the why explained is difficult. I usually couldn't care less about the why and that's when people feel the need to go into intense detail, when I want the why they just want to give the the worst instructions that don't make any sense.

And then they take too long or too many words to explain the instructions and I wanna just gouge my own eyes out 😔

Hating being told what to do isn't an adhd specific trait. People must stop to throw all their troubles on adhd, it doesn't help those who really have adhd and struggle on a daily basis.

Tell me what to do, but don’t tell me when I have to do it.
