Discussion Warning for You Can See Everything (not a spoiler)
SHOW UP ON TIME! There are not full-length (25-30 minutes) trailers for You Can See Everything.
I’m usually someone who leaves home at showtime so I can get to the theatre at the very end of trailers. Today I thankfully left a little earlier… because there were only 10 minutes of previews (AMC Georgetown) and over half of the theatre missed the beginning of the film!
Texted a friend in TX who said they also had about 12 minutes of previews at an Alamo.
Has anyone else had this experience today?? Just want to make sure my fellow A24 lovers get to see the whole picture :)
News A24 is hosting free screenings of Club Kid in 12 US cities during the week of October 26th. Be sure to grab a spot before they run out!
I just got tickets to the San Francisco screening and can confirm it’s free. All the cities and direct links to reserve are linked in the article. Not sure how limited they’ll be, so get a reservation quickly!

Discussion Decoy Dan and Chris Hansen Spoiler
filmcolossus.com“You know, in the old days, when people would act so depraved, they’d drag you down to the town square and tie you to a post and whip you. For all to see. There used to be a pillory in every civilized town. Now there’s television in every home. That I’m on. So are you, Dan.”

Discussion If I Had Legs I’d Kick You + Beau is Afraid
Just watched IIHLIKY for the first time and I was blown away. On a personal level I feel like I can identify with Beau is Afraid way more, but the level of anxiety I had watching Legs was way more intense. It felt like I was watching a direct rebuttal to Beau and the crazy part is that Rose Byrne plays the maternal role in both movies. I can’t help but feel like it was intentional, especially at certain parts. Conan plays a ginger with glasses that doesn’t even attempt to grapple with Linda’s (Rose Byrne) trauma. The scenes where she’s literally watching a movie depicting a “Devouring” or “Oedipal” mother. Her patients (especially the young man) feel like they dropped in from an Ari Aster film. The young man’s T-Shirt says “F*CK” 3x as he vents about having dreams of intimacy with the only woman in his life, his therapist. I feel like it’s screaming mommy issues, but it also doesn’t relieve its target audience, ‘moms’ of the responsibility (I know the target audience is more than moms you know what I mean). But like I said earlier as someone with no kids that can identify with Beau I was like damn, being a single mom sounds like a nightmare. I can’t much on the internet about this but anyone else feel this way?
Edit: Rose Byrne was in fact not in Beau is Afraid

Discussion Read the Midsommar screenplay
I've been reading a screenplay a week since high school and I cannot emphasize how masterful the Midsommar screenplay is. This may sound crazy but it's up there with Lawrence of Arabia. Ari's ability to visualize is unparalleled. I was simply blown away. Highly recommend it.

Discussion Hansen and NBC look worse in Predators than in Primetime.
I watched Primetime and Predators back-to-back a few weeks ago and only wish I had seen David Osit's documentary first because it provided a perfect backdrop for the sort of story Lance Oppenheim and Ajon Singh wanted to tell. Whatever your priors are with the legacy of To Catch A Predator, Primetime is a far more sympathetic and alluring interpretation of Chris Hansen than the real life version you'll experience in Predators.
The way Oppenheim needles the audience here in black mirror fashion, in particular with stunt casting, brings up memories of last year's Eddington so it's zero surprise Ari Aster's Square Peg was behind Primetime. I don't think I'll be haunted by the specter of Hansen stalking kitchen islands the way I was by the glow of solidgoldmagikorp but I'm grateful for both films (and filmmakers).
This was our longest episode to date and I saw Primetime three times in preparation. We also bring into the discussion a lot of key information from Osit's documentary and Luke Dittrich's excellent essay from 2007, Tonight On Dateline This Man Will Die.

P.S. - The title of my original (now-deleted) post was sloppy and misleading.

Discussion I Saw The TV Glow: Owen's "family" in final sequence? Spoiler
I am late to this movie, prompted to watch it by promos for Camp Miasma.
I have one specific question: after the twenty year time jump Owen says in one of his fourth wall breaks, "I have a family of my own now. I love them more than anything."
We never catch a glimpse of any such family, and when we see Owen at home, he is binging Netflix alone on his couch, just like any bachelor.
So ... how are we meant to take the line about the family he loves more than anything? Is it simply his delusion? Are we supposed to believe that there is a wife and children somewhere tucked out of sight in his house? It it a gesture towards some sort of "chosen family" that we also don't see?
The line almost comes across as if it's a relic from some discarded version of the script where Owen does start a family, and the one line was for some reason left in when that storyline was cut.
Or am I being too literal? What do folks think?

Question The Debut Playbill
Was fortunate enough to attend a NYFF Screening but unfortunately was the only screening that didn’t hand out the playbill before. Odds it will show up in one of my upcoming AA24 zines or the store? Think this is an A+ A24 collectible

Discussion The way Chris Hanson is going on a PR crusade trying to control his image is ironically making him look even more like the inaccurate portrayal of him In primetime he is fighting against
I cannot get over the fact that the real chris Hanson is going to theaters and approaching audience members and telling them he’s not really like that. It’s almost meta. All I can imagine is Robert Pattinsons portrayal of him going apeshit over the film, completely missing the point, and thinking that individually convincing everyone who see’s it that he isn’t an obsessive egomaniac is the sane and normal thing to do.
Edit: I feel like i shouldn’t have to say this but I in no way disapprove of Chris Hanson’s work nor do I side with predators of children. I just think it’s funny that he is making himself look as self obsessed and worried about his likeness as Pattinsons portrayal did. I also used the word “inaccurate” on purpose.

Question Seeing primetime with kid
How inappropriate is primetime?? I want to see it for my bday, so my mom bought tickets for the whole family, including my 12 yr old brother. I don't really know what he's watched, but my parents are strict, and he's a bit sheltered. I think I would have been fine at 12, but I had way more internet access than he does. I'm just worried it will be awkward with my parents during the movie.
