I got itchy hands
I finally pulled the trigger to carbon overlay my wing. The original concept was to do it, get everyone involved to sign the wing, then first coat. But that kinda fell apart. I'm just trying to avoid creators block as in genuinely stuck on how to do the taillights.

What is the correct torque? My Haynes manual says 80, pelican parts says 75+5 and I'm seeing straight 75 other places online. Can anybody clear this up for me?

Question Safest way to sand block
I have been dealing with cam tower gaskets blowing out, including the foam covered LR aluminum one. I took a close look at both surfaces and the head side looks to have a few burrs and scratches on the edge that need to be taken down. Is a foam block with sandpaper the safest way for me to knock these down? I really don’t want to remove this head and take it to a machine shop as it is very costly. I have a replacement paper gasket to put on it so if I need to use a sealant please let me know.

Question Has anyone ever converted an American front bunker to european style?
I have always loved the euro front bumper but am sadly priced out as used examples sell for 1.5k plus in America. I know people take off the front pads and go with a “shaved” look but has anyone here tried cutting into the bumper and fitting fog lights? It seems like it would be doable in my head but would love some opinions.

Cover
Hello everyone, I am in the market for a car cover for my 86 na and I am just wondering if anyone has some recommendations. My budget is about 200 bucks and it needs to be waterproof/ good for snow. My 944 has to sit outside sometimes for a few days as a different car must occupy that space.

Question Need help with climate control replacement
Hi, I have a 1988 non AC 944 but the clear plastic on the heater control is cracked so it doesn't sit flush and for some other reasons as well, I would like to replace it. I found a part online, but it is from a car with AC, my question is can I install this part, knowing that the AC button is nonfunc, and will the rest of the buttons work, or is it the case that the whole thing won't work at all.
My heater control is like this one:
So it's a 944.653.021.02 (I think)
The part I want to install is 944.653.021.01 but with the AC buttons.
Here is a pic of mine included incase I got the part number wrong.
(Please ignore the missing buttons I'm getting to it)

Question I'm not opposed to paying a little more for a complete vacuum hose kit for my early model, but is there a cheaper option than 944Online?
I'm new to working on cars and the thought of having every hose I need appeals to me more than trying to make my own, but the 944Online one is like $260.

Question Hatch Struts General Question
Bought hatch struts off ebay and theres oil on the outside of the struts in and on the packaging. It's not a lot and sent seller a question but won't get a responce til overnight, so I'd thought I'd ask here. I've purchased them before but don't remember those arriving in that condition. Is this just for anti-corrosion purposes or are they leaking?

Question Should I be concerned about this?
Can I just grind it down and patch it easily?
Question 2.5 Tick/Knock
Not a 944 but close, picked up an 87 924S project over the weekend. Previous owner said he got it running over the summer but has a knock. I’ve been researching the last few days (lots of great posts in here) and sounds like lifter tick is pretty common on these especially after sitting but may eventually go away?
I’d like to hear it myself but want to be cautious so I’m curious any start up tips? I’m sure the timing belt needs done. Do I do a visual inspection first to make sure its not REALLY bad? I’d just like to try and narrow down a major issue before we do all the normal maintenance needed only to find out it wasn’t worth it. Would it be ok to start it, let it warm up, shut it down to cool off and repeat a handful of times and see how the tick sounds?
Thanks! This is a project to work on with my son and he’s excited to dig in.

Wanted: 944 S2 Coupe (SE England)
I'm in the market for a manual S2 Coupe. Condition and history (ownership, maintenance / service) are more important to me than options.
If anyone has something suitable they'd consider selling, please let me know. Although I'm in SE England, I'm happy to travel within the UK for the right car.
I'm familiar with the 944s currently on the UK open market, but most are either convertible, tiptronic, not S2s, overly modified, too far away, or have skeletons in their closets.
Note: I might consider a good late (1989+) model 951 / Turbo, but would prefer an S2 due to mechanical simplicity, parts availability etc
EDIT: Added manual gearbox requirement
EDIT: Willing to travel

Purchasing 1986 Porsche 944 Purchasing
Hey, my neighbour has his 944 for sale. He’s only had it for a year, and according to him, he only drove it 500 km within that year. It had 328,000km total.
I’m wondering what you guys think about the price and the future of the vehicle. I have driven manual before and am interested in it because of that and the 50/50 weight distribution.
Give me some advice and let me know what you think.
Interior is very clean, its been reupholstered recently by previous owner. Exterior is what you would expect for a 300k+ vehicle but well kept.
Let me know you guys think. Needs new tires and some random small things but from what I could tell nothing major from driving it. Had a exhaust leak or its running really RICH.
Neighbor has it listed for $8k CAD. Don’t have exterior photos
Let me know what you guys think

Question How did you route your wideband cable?
Currently installing a wideband, and I'm not sure how to run the cable. It's installed just across from my wastegate. My gauge is just below my head unit. I thought about going up through the shifter, but open to ideas!

Question Oil leak identification
Hey guys,
I’ve got some smoke coming up when I’m at full throttle I believe it’s smoke burning on the exhaust. I cleaned the engine and drove for a bit to try seeing where is the leak coming from. And it seems that it’s on the passenger side of the engine near the balancing shaft. I can really say what could be leaking based on the pictures. Does any of you have ideas ?
Many thanks

Question 944 NA TIMING BELT
First off I’m a pro mechanic with lots of bmw experience. This 944 is new to me. I’m about to replace the timing belt so I’m lining marks up. I SWEAR the flywheel isn’t perfectly lined up with the line, while the cam gear is.
It runs excellent. Possible to be a tooth off and still run well??
Thanks friends?

got an S2
I've had just about all the P models, one I missed when I sold it was a $1500 base 944 I beat up for some months.
This 80k mile S2 kind of dropped into my lap, had to jump on it. A short list of smallish stuff to do, I'm sure I'll have some questions! Here she is
