Discussion Celebrity Deathmatch
Loved this show back in the day. I was a big wrestling fan so i loved that Stone Cold Steve Austin was on the show a lot too. I even had the video game which wasn’t that good honestly.

Discussion Chalky is the Man and I love Him
Chalky Studebaker is an athlete, scholar, and all around good friend whose not afraid to give Doug a much needed pat on the back all the while you know he's taking Patti Mayonnaise down to Stinson's Pond to bag a nematode. It's rare that you get a character whose a balanced combination of positive strengths far outshines the main character (Doug is a wet sock filled with pine needles and disappointment) while also still being a good guy.
Chalky is like the Nietzchean Ubdermensch of Doug's fragile mind. He's popular, fun, kind, athletic, and successful. He's everything Doug cannot be embodied. Doug recognizes this as well, per his penchant to spiral into dissociative fantasies where he imagines himself as characters with charm, panache, and spines.
Chalky is the quarterback of the football team (because of course he is). In one episode, the other players combine in a scrum in front of him. Chalky, being the lean, green, strategic machine that he is, throws the football over the pile of players. He also, somehow, is fast enough to run around the entire line and catch his own pass. Chalky proceeds to run for a touchdown on a play where he's the only player to touch the ball.
Not only is this an incredible feat of athleticism, borderline impossible with the distant that pass flew, but it is certainly illegal in the rules of American football where the quarterback can only catch a pass if another player has touched the ball first (like on a deflection).
Does anyone care? No, of course not, because Chalky is a a god and we are all but mortals. The crowd losses their fucking mind, Beebee whips out her namesakes while screaming Chalky's name, and we're all forced to reckon with the fact that none of us will ever approach the apex of this fictional twelve year old boy. Chalky is the beginning. Chalky is the end. Chalky is all.
Unlike Doug, who is a mentally unstable major depressive coward, Chalky gave a generation someone to look up to, someone to aspire to, someone who showed us that jocks didn't have to be cliche, that one could be intelligent, athletic, and kind all in one package if they tried hard enough. In the dark times of the world and life, I could think back to Chalky, his steadfast smile, his quick quips, and remember all he represented. Goodness. Hope. Being green.
After Doug hung himself on the Disney spin off series, it is a wonder they didn't appoint Chalky as the face of his own franchise. Perhaps his splendor could have helped another generation, but alas, we are left with pleasant memories of a boy (nay, a man) who stole the show and the hearts of an entire generation.
I'm getting a Chalky tattoo. How about you?
