Captain Mara Jordan needs to stay in Sick Bay and is absolutely not amused about this fact. Her crew assures her to take care of the next job offer and tells her not to worry. But Mara knows that the job offer is from Werok Jala, an emissary from the corporation „Stellar Endeavour“, and they are known to offer only the toughest of the toughest jobs. In one of Stellar Endeavour’s last missions, a greedy member of a Black Ops team betrayed them and stole data about a valuable technology (no further information given). So, Werok Jala asked Mara and her crew to hunt down this individual and kill them.
Since Mara knows that she needs all the credits she can get for her quest, she agreed to take on this very well paid job.
But now she is in Sick Bay. Well…the crew will do great, she keeps saying to herself.
Zarrek, Jax, KDO, K’Aela, Talon, and K’Thok manage to find that person to be killed. Unfortunately, they are accompanied by three other Black Ops team members and an Engineer Tech (with 1 Luck point!).
KDO is the first to move and takes a shot on the Engineer Tech - and they hit, but unfortunately no damage. Jax moves to the left flank, planning to climb up the ladder to the roof of the left building.
The enemy crew members move into cover; no shots are possible in this turn.
The rest of Mara’s crew also just positions themselves closer to the enemy.
Jax manages to climb onto the roof (but has no spare action to shoot). K’Thok moves past the left building on the left flank and takes a shot on the Lieutenant, who is the person to be killed, but unfortunately misses. Zarrek, on the right flank, moves into cover and shoots with his Shotgun at the Specialist, but unfortunately misses both shots!
The Specialist takes revenge and shoots back at Zarrek with her Auto Rifle, but also has no luck and doesn’t hit. The Black Ops member near the Specialist supports her and also shoots at Zarrek…and also misses. The Lieutenant shoots back at K’Thok, hits and injures K’Thok, who takes a Stim-Pack to remain in the battle. The Black Ops member near the Lieutenant surges ahead with full movement over open ground towards K’Thok. The Engineer Tech moves into cover and shoots at Zarrek (poor Zarrek gets shot at all the time), and he hits…and injures - oh no!! Luckily, Zarrek carries the last of the crew’s Stim-Packs and stays on the battle field.
Now its time for revenge for the crew. K’Aela aims at the Engineer Tech with her Needle Rifle, but the one hit she has does not do any harm. Talon presses ahead towards the Black Ops member at the left flank, shoots and hits - and finally, he kills the first enemy. KDO reconsiders his previous movements and moves towards the left flank to support K’Thok in his fight against the Lieutenant.
K’Thok takes again a shot at the Lieutenant, but again misses. K’Aela shoots at the Engineer Tech and takes revenge for Zarrek - the Engineer Tech is hit and killed. Zarrek fucks up again his two shots at the Specialist, but also the back shots from them and the Black Ops member do not cause anything. The Lieutenant fires back at K’Thok and again hits him - and this time, unfortunately, the K’Erin is injured and taken out of action.
Jax shoots from the roof at the remaining Black Ops member, but misses. KDO moves past the left building and takes a shot at the Lieutenant, but that bloody bastard cannot be killed. Talon moves closer to the Lieutenant, planning to attempt a brawl in the next turn.
KDO aims at the Lieutenant, but is not able to hurt him. Talon enters a brawl with the greedy scumbag. Both are hit! The Lieutenant is killed, but also Talon is injured and needs to be taken out of battle. Mission accomplished, but at what cost!
The shots from the Specialist and the Black Ops member miss Zarrek, who in turn kills the Specialist eventually. And K’Aela finishes off the last Black Ops member.
A notable sight on the battle field grants one Story Point.
When the crew returns to the space ship, Mara is both relieved (that the crew returns at all) and worried (about K’Thok and Talon). She vacates the emergency bed to make place for the two injured crew members. A thorough inspection shows serious injuries for K’Thok, who has to stay in Sick Bay for the next three turns, and severe damage to Talon, who needs to rest for the next turn. It could’ve been way worse, both will recover without any long-lasting effects.
Mara planned to move on to another planet to pursue her quest after the job, but she will need to discuss this with her crew now given the two injured crew members.
The battle was the toughest one so far, with two casualties and the last Stim-Packs used up.
