I've ported Goemon 64: Recompiled, the PC recompilation of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, natively to the 3DS.
Highlights
Installing it
Credits: klorfmorf and the Goemon 64: Recompiled contributors, Mr-Wiseguy's N64Recomp, and RT64, which the 3DS renderer (rt64-3ds) builds on.
The port was written with the help of AI tools (Claude), under my direction and with my testing on real consoles.

Hi everyone!
While still testing and polishing The Minish Cap, I couldn’t resist taking a deep look at another ambitious project: Legend of Doom 3DS (the GZDoom first-person total conversion of the original NES The Legend of Zelda, created by DeTwelve Games).
This fork is based on the initial 3DS port by EstebanPdN (EstebanPdN/legend-of-doom-3ds).
While having GZDoom running on the console is an impressive milestone, the initial build struggled heavily with performance: on New 3DS it ran at around ~25-40 FPS in 2D (no stereoscopic 3D enabled), and Old 3DS / 2DS was completely out of reach.
After profiling the engine and applying the optimization lessons learned from the Metroid and Minish Cap ports, I wanted to see if we could turn this into a truly smooth, immersive handheld experience.
Transparency note: Exactly as with my previous ports, the heavy code refactoring is AI-assisted under my direct architecture, guidance, manual debugging, and hardware profiling on real 3DS/2DS consoles.

Hi everyone!
Following the feedback on the Metroid: Zero Mission and Super Metroid (sm-3ds) ports, I’ve jumped into another project I wanted to see running properly on the 3DS: The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap.
This port is based on the repository by EstebanPdN (EstebanPdN/zelda-tmc-3ds). While it got the game booting on 3DS, the performance was quite compromised: widescreen at 60 FPS was limited to New 3DS (with various visual glitches still present), while Old 3DS / 2DS was forced into original 4:3 resolution without widescreen to hold frame rates.
Having spent a lot of time optimizing rendering pipelines for the 3DS hardware on the Metroid projects, I was convinced this engine could be pushed much further. My goal from day one was simple: locked 60 FPS in full widescreen across all 3DS models, fix the rendering issues, and explore native stereoscopic 3D.
Please note: the game is not 100% finished yet. I am actively playing through it, hunting bugs, and manually adjusting and tuning everything I encounter as I go.
I’m currently tweaking the 3D depth maps and ironing out minor edge cases. Feedback, playthrough testing, and bug reports—especially from anyone testing on standard Old 3DS or 2DS hardware—are hugely appreciated!
(As usual, no copyrighted assets or ROMs are distributed: you need your own legally dumped GBA ROM placed on your SD card as detailed in the README).
Transparency note: Exactly as with my previous Metroid ports, I want to be 100% transparent. While the bulk of the code is being generated/refactored by AI, I direct the architecture, lead the feature design, and personally debug, test, and tune everything manually on real hardware.

Hey all, I've been working on a port of Paper Mario (N64) to the New 3DS and it's at 1.0 now.
It's built from the Paper Mario decompilation (pmret), so the game's own C code runs natively on the 3DS. Nothing is emulated, and it runs at full speed on real hardware.
**What it has**
- EU and US versions in one install
- 60 fps (in-between frames are added) or the original 30
- Fast-forward on ZR and faster text options
- Original 4:3, Fill or Wide screen, and the 3D slider works
- Bottom screen: stats, world map, party switching, items, and the battle menus as touch buttons
- Remappable buttons
- A randomizer you pick when you start a new file: items, badges, coins, key items (always reachable before you need them), shops, gifts. Seeds are shareable and it writes a spoiler log
**What you need**
- A New 3DS / New 3DS XL / New 2DS XL with custom firmware. The original 3DS isn't supported
- Your own Paper Mario ROM (EU or US), dumped yourself. The download contains no game data. Put it at `/3ds/StarHaven/baserom.z64`
- For sound: `/3ds/dspfirm.cdc` (most CFW setups already have it)
Install with FBI. The GitHub page has a QR code for Remote Install, or grab the CIA / 3DSX from Releases:
https://github.com/SecondaryLifer/StarHaven
**Known issues:** a few N64 graphics effects are approximations, and menu windows go blank for a moment while they flip. If you run into anything, open an issue and attach `/3ds/StarHaven/log.txt`.
Big thanks to the Paper Mario decomp project, devkitPro, and the Paper Mario Randomizer team, whose world logic the randomizer is based on.
Please don't ask for ROMs.

Introducing ZOS-3DS! ZOS is short for Zombie Outbreak Simulator, and is the official acronym for the game coined by its original developers, Binary Space. Binary Space many years ago developed a game called Zombie Outbreak Simulator, a mobile game for both Android and iOS. The game is barely maintained (if it even is at all, the developers haven't updated their website since at least 2024 with news), the game got so old and broken on Android that Google forcibly delisted it. The iOS version on the other hand is still alive and well. The game is free to play however does have in-app purchases or you can watch ads to get extra features (ads make it temporary, purchases make it permanent), or you can buy the "pro" version on iOS to get it all without IAPs. The Android version never had a pro variant and was only free to play with IAPs. ZOS-3DS is based on the newest (and last) Android version released, and removes IAPs, ads and any other unrelated Android thing such as sharing.
With this all being said, let's get down to the AI disclosure. Yes, Claude was used to help make this decompilation possible. Specifically, I gave it the APK and it decompiled the game in full, converted it over to 3DS in C++ and I did debugging along with Claude using Azahar, and I did live hardware testing by myself on my New Nintendo 3DS XL. I also did minor Old 3DS testing by tweaking Azahar's settings however otherwise it does not have Old 3DS testing.
Source code and compiled CIA are available on the GBAtemp thread page!

Hi everyone! For the past few weeks I've been working on a native port of Super Mario 64 DS (EU) to the Nintendo 3DS. It's not an emulator: the game code runs natively on the 3DS CPU, built on the amazing sm64ds-decomp decompilation, and the DS 2D/3D hardware is reimplemented on top of the 3DS GPU (citro3d).
What works today (tested on my New 3DS)
- Menus, intro, castle, courses, bosses — the game is playable from start to finish
- All 36 Rec Room mini-games
- Full-width blue sky on the top screen (game image kept at 4:3, no stretching)
- DS shadows, lighting, toon shading reproduced on the 3DS GPU
- Installable CIA with a HOME Menu banner (generated from *your* ROM at build time)
3DS-only extras (optional, OPTIONS screen with SELECT+START)
- Stereoscopic 3D in the title menu (the star flies in front of / behind the logo) and in-game
- New 3DS C-Stick camera ("DS arrows" mode or a smooth free camera)
- Analog Circle Pad: slight tilt = walk, full tilt = run (DS digital mode still available)
- HD title logo, texture filtering
Status / honest limits
- Work in progress: ~30 fps in game on New 3DS with some slowdowns, menu 40–60 fps — performance is what I'm working on now
- Old 3DS not tested on hardware yet
- Stereo 3D / C-Stick / OPTIONS have mostly been tested in Azahar so far
Legal
No Nintendo code or assets are included. You need your own dump of Super Mario 64 DS (Europe); the build script extracts everything locally. Please don't ask for ROMs.
Source / build
https://github.com/SebastienBreton/sm64ds-3ds
git clone --recursive, put your dump as baserom.eu.nds, run ./build.sh (and ./build.sh cia for the CIA).
Contributions are very welcome — fork + PR. Bug reports with the log sdmc:/sm64ds/user-test.log help a lot. Huge thanks to the sm64ds-decomp contributors, the devkitPro/citro3d folks, and the Azahar and melonDS teams.

UPDATE (v0.1.8): the latest build is on the project's GitHub page (link at the bottom).
What's new since 0.1.5:
- Fixed a crash in the shop when selling items (it affected both emulators and real 3DS hardware)
- Fixed a graphics corruption in Heliodor on Azahar/Citra
- Item screens: the item command window and the bottom-screen descriptions fit better, and descriptions no longer break in the middle of a word
- Camp and inn choices no longer overlap
- Battle results and item pickups now read like the Switch version
If you installed an older version, please uninstall it first and use the latest release. Known issues and fixes are listed on the GitHub page.
----------
I've been working on an unofficial English fan translation of the Japanese 3DS version of Dragon Quest XI (Sugi Sarishi Toki o Motomete), and a public beta is available.
What's translated:
- Menus, battles, items, spells, monsters, NPCs and story text
- Official PS4/Switch names where they are known
- Map labels, town banners, the title logo and the HOME menu banner
- Works in both 3D and 2D mode
Status: beta. A few lines may still be in Japanese, and some long lines can be tight in 2D mode. If you play it and spot something that looks off, a screenshot and where you were in the game is a big help.
This was made with AI assistance plus a lot of my own playtesting, so some wording may be awkward.
The project contains no game data of any kind. You need your own legally obtained copy of the game, and I won't share or discuss game files.
SUPPORT NOTE (please read before reporting a problem)
This is a free fan project made in my spare time, so I can't offer troubleshooting for every device or setup.
- If a game runs badly or crashes only on a certain emulator, device or setup, that is usually down to the emulator, its settings or the hardware, not the patch. I can't diagnose those, and I won't be replying to emulation-issue questions on this post.
- Some crashes really can be caused by the patch. I test the current releases myself on both emulator and real hardware, and when I can reproduce a problem, I fix it. If I can't reproduce it, it may be specific to your setup.
- If you hit a problem, the most helpful thing you can do is report it on the project's GitHub page and follow the reporting steps there (patch version, where you were in the game, real 3DS or emulator, 2D or 3D, and a screenshot or photo).
Please follow the GitHub page and this post for the latest releases. Thanks for understanding and for trying the patch!

Hi again! A new stable release of the Super Metroid 3DS port is out, and this one is all about how it plays.
Modern controls (optional)
You can now switch between the original SNES controls and a new MODERN scheme, closer to Zero Mission and Fusion. No more cycling weapons with SELECT:
Pick it in OPTIONS → CONTROLS on the bottom screen, or in the game's own controller setting screen. The "?" next to CONTROLS shows every button for both schemes, and the item pickup messages explain the modern buttons. The original controls are untouched, and achievements, saves and save states work the same with both.
Also new

As always, no ROM is included: you need your own legal Super Metroid (JU) ROM.
Still to do: a full 100% playthrough on hardware, the Ceres escape and Ridley fight with 3D on Old 3DS/2DS (still around 40-50 FPS), and a few visual glitches (lava edge rows while scrolling, Crocomire in widescreen). Feedback on the modern controls is especially welcome: the scheme is new and I'll keep tuning it.
Transparency note: same as before, the code is written by AI under my direction; I lead the features, debugging and testing on real hardware.

RetroArch didn't run Neo Geo games well enough on my Old 3DS, so I made my own.
The video is from an early build. A lot has changed since then, so here's where it's at now (1.0.8).
How it works: a small Windows converter turns a Neo Geo game into a CIA. Install it with FBI and the game gets its own icon and banner on the home menu, like a regular title.
Running at full speed on my Old 3DS: KOF 98, 99, 2000 and 2002, Metal Slug X and 3, SVC Chaos, Samurai Shodown V Special. Others have reported KOF 2003, Metal Slug 5 and Garou at 60 fps as well. Metal Slug 2, X and 3 still slow down in their busiest scenes, but the original arcade board does that too.
New since the video:
- Touch menu on the bottom screen
- Button remapping per game, including combos like A+B or C+D
- Turbo button
- Restart with a long press or SELECT+START
- Smoother heavy scenes and a sound timing fix in 1.0.8
Battery is about 5 hours from a full charge on my Old 3DS (middle brightness, Wi-Fi off).
Everything (download, setup, compatibility list, and a write-up on how it fits into the Old 3DS's memory) is in the README:

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey guys, I got tired of having to convert video files manually or unscrew my New 3DS backplate every time I wanted to load media onto my SD card, so I decided to build a native Plex client for the 3DS. Full disclosure on how this was made: I've worked in Big Tech for the last 10 years, but honestly haven't handwritten code professionally in over a year—that's just how the workflow is these days. I built this using AI coding tools as a pair programmer, but backed it up with proper engineering: set up the devkitARM toolchain, wrote automated test suites, and spent hours debugging and profiling directly on physical hardware so this isn't just broken vibe-code. It genuinely runs solid. It connects straight to your Plex server over your network (or remote via Plex Token) and is packaged as both a .3dsx and an installable .cia for the HOME Menu.
/3ds/Plex3DS/media/) instead of dumping everything in one flat folder..cia so UI browsing stays snappy.Grab the .cia or .3dsx from the GitHub releases: Repo: https://github.com/herdlevar/plex-3ds
Releases: https://github.com/herdlevar/plex-3ds/releases
Plex3DS.cia using FBI. It gives you a custom Plex banner/icon right on the HOME Menu.Plex3DS.3dsx and Plex3DS.smdh into sdmc:/3ds/Plex3DS/. On first launch, you can configure your server IP, port (default 32400), and Plex Token either in the in-app settings or by editing sdmc:/3ds/Plex3DS/config.json. If you run into any bugs or format issues with your specific Plex setup, let me know or open an issue on GitHub. Hope some of you find it useful!r/3dshacks • u/NeohhXV • 8d ago

Hello! I’ve been getting back into my 3DS again, and I just found out about so many cool projects! Like ports for Melee, Mario Kart Wii, and Halo?? Also, a battery upgrade that can last up to 10 hours? What??!
I saw something about a Minish Cap native port with a bottom screen, and one for Emerald, but I can’t seem to find them again. Could anyone recommend some other really cool projects I should check out and can you please send some links?
