Sample Status Sample Status/Processing Monthly Megathread - October 2026

Welcome to the Sample Status/Processing Megathread, also known as the Waiting, Whining, and Wishing thread. This monthly megathread (posted at the beginning of each month) allows you post your sample processing timelines, as well as to discuss and comment about any questions, concerns, or rants while you wait. Although not directly handled by 23andMe, shipping status may also be discussed in the thread. We recommend sorting the comments by "new" as this is a month long megathread.

You can share your sample status timeline here in one or two ways. The first way is to take a screenshot of your timeline, and post it as a comment. The second way is to simply copy and paste the start and completion dates for each step. Here is the text template:

My boyfriend's results are really interesting. I'm a little disappointed that he didn't get any genetic groups. Does anyone know why? Y-dna:R-L260 Mtdna:H11a2.

Results My Genera results

Post image

Since I don't have easy access to 23andme here in Brazil, I did it through Genera instead. Considering that my family is a perfect example of Italian settlers from Serra Gaúcha, Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil, I was surprised by the high percentage of ancestry from the Balkans and the Middle East. Is there any explanation for this?

The rest matches my family tree, considering that a small part of the family is French and other significant parts are from Tyrol and Austria.

I didn’t expect it to be so one sided or this narrow maybe it would’ve looked different if i took this test at 2024 since there would be even lower data or matches to me. Tried out the relatives feature and the highest match was like 1% to me.

Question / Help How many ukranians poles czechoslovaks, belarussians have Ashkenazi Jewish dna at small shares?

I know a lot of these ethnicities were in or near the pale of settlement. I see over 33% of hungarians have 3% or more Ashkenazi dna.

I wonder if like 70% of these people get it.

Discussion A Genetic Comparison of the Indigenous Category of AncestryDNA vs 23andme

Thumbnail

I was looking at my results for both websites and noticed that both leaned slightly more towards Peruvian native than Bolivian. My family is from the Andean side of Bolivia particularly Cochabamba. I wondered why I would receive Southern Andean as my gift Category on 23andme or score more Altiplano on Ancestry. I researched into it and found that the Andean Valley of Cochabamba had some of its indigenous people removed by the Inca for rebellions and transferred else where in the empire. Then the valley was filled with people from other parts of their empire brought there to work. This resulted in Quechua being the dominant language there.

That would explain why my Native genes map out the way they do. I’m descended in part from the people brought to populate the valley. I know most people don’t have ancestry from here, but I wanted to share what I found because it shows a interesting correlation between what my results reflect and real history.

I do think 23andme did better though overall. Ancestry overestimate my native by 1-2%.

DNA Relatives Did anyone regret finding out about a half sibling?

I gifted a test to my partner, for his birthday. I pushed him to do it and he was completely in favor. He hasn’t seen the results yet but I have and it shows a likely half sibling in the results. If true, this would be a massive deal. The test says they’re a 20% match, so it is entirely possible it’s a cousin maybe, but the family tree line doesn’t connect it to others. Would that matter or is that just how 23and me lays it out? Also, we come from a culture where this would be a massive deal— I was wondering if there are people who would have rather not known?

Question / Help Why didn’t I get any diaspora journeys at all even though my ancestors have been in America since the 1700s?

I have some recorded ancestry on the British/Irish/german side from the 1700s in NJ and Illinois but the computer didn’t detect it at all. All I got in terms of specific genetic groups were these two in southern Italy. Ancestry did link me with a New York border settlers group but that’s it on their end too.

I’m not sure how accurate 23andMe is at the regional level, but my dad is fully Oromo, so I expected to see Oromo ancestry reflected in my results.
Have any fellow Ethiopians experienced something similar?
Also, my maternal haplogroup is M1a1.

Results My results as a Dane with East Prussian and Swedish ancestry

Thumbnail

I’m actually pretty impressed by the accuracy of my results. My documented ancestry is mostly Scandinavian; Danish born and bred with a Swedish great great grandmother.

But I also have an East Prussian (born in what is now Kaliningrad) great grandmother who was the carrier of my maternal haplogroup. Her father had French huguenot heritage (his ancestors left NE France in the late 1600’s and mostly married within their own group) but her mother was of unknown origin, although with a German name. So I was keen to find out if she also had huguenot roots or if she was perhaps of German, Polish or Baltic ancestry.

I was intrigued to discover that my maternal haplogroup is the branch U5a2, which - as I understand it - is most prevalent in the Baltic region and goes back to Ice Age hunter gatherers. I also couldn’t help but upgrade to see my historical matches which were mostly with Scandinavians but also some Hungarians.

If anyone has more knowledge about my results, I’d greatly appreciate it :)
