I’m sure bednar will go out for the 8th and probably straton in the 9th against the bottom of the order

Is Cole Tucker really a MLB player or is he just trolling us ?
I wouldn't be surprised if Ashton Kutcher came out from the dugout and said we are all being punk'd.

Geez Tucker, I was kidding when I said you'd go 0-4 with 3 SO please don't prove me right tonight.
3
u/TeamMemberDZ-015 Apr 22 '22
I was hoping when they subbed Newman for Park, they'd pull Tucker & put in Marsinak. You're ahead you want defense, & subbing a right-handed batter for a switch that isn't hitting isn't a minus.
4
5
Apr 22 '22
Why not give Hayes the green light there? Yoshi has a high percentage chance of hitting into a dp.
5
u/magikarp2122 MATTSON H2P Apr 22 '22
That was 100% interference, especially based on the one that was called in Toronto earlier this year.
6
u/captainpizzzaa Apr 22 '22
Why is Cole Tucker even on the team, let alone playing right field. Parks not it either. Cal Mitchell has been hot and definitely deserves a chance. What do they have against having Bednar as the set closer?
10
u/TeamMemberDZ-015 Apr 22 '22
They've gone putting their ace in when they think the game is on the line rather than try to close after giving up the lead late.
2
u/captainpizzzaa Apr 22 '22
That does make some sense since he seems to be the only late inning lockdown guy but, now they don’t have anyone for the ninth inning lol

I'd play the outfield of Reynolds, Gamel, and Marisnick each night. Middle infield of Castillo and Chavis. Hayes and Yoshi on the corners.

This is the correct response for what we got, this doesn’t even need to be your opinion. It’s obvious, but Shelton doesn’t see it I guess
5
u/AgentDub14 Under 100 Losses? Apr 22 '22
Bednar is the closer. Shelton has said that he likes to use him against the top of the order in the 8th inning so that they have Bednar facing the best hitters. Stratton can pitch the 9th against the bottom of the order

At this point I think we'd be better off if our starting pitcher just threw it right down the middle every pitch. Let the hitters hit it and get themselves out.
Pitching around these hitters just isn't working.
3
Apr 22 '22
Can someone explain why Bucs pitchers struggle so mightily early on? Conventional wisdom is that pitchers usually have the advantage first time through the order. Is it as simple as lack of talent, or is it an approach at the plate that every opponent has identified and keyed in on?
2
u/TeamMemberDZ-015 Apr 22 '22
It's a very weak rotation. It's been the main weak point since the off season. We didn't do much in the off-season to improve the situation. Just waiting for the next couple rounds of prospects to see if they can deliver in the bigs.
3
Apr 22 '22
I understand it’s not a strong rotation, but to consistently give up multiple runs in the first is odd, particularly as often they settle down over the next few innings.
If management is flirting with the idea of an Opener, I can’t think of a better opportunity.

Once Contreras puts in a couple starts at AAA, he ought to be put in the rotation here for the rest of the year
3
u/AchtungKessel STFD Apr 22 '22
Shelton will use that ‘Look what I found!’ as an excuse to put him out there the next eight games
3
Apr 22 '22
I get that pitchers need to be eased into longer outings, due to the shortened ST and all, but Shelton seems to be going in the opposite direction. Pulling them earlier and earlier as the season goes.
3
u/evensplit6839 Apr 22 '22
That was a legitimately good at bat, looked like he was really seeing the ball well. That said, not sure why he took that pitch - looked like he was able to reach anything on Leiter there.
Probably overanalyzing because it's Tucker, but it is what it is.

One of my biggest fears with this team is that Shelton is a terrible manager and we won’t really find out (because we’re giving him mulligans for the current awful roster) until he starts squandering an already small window where we have all our prospects up and can compete.
