How dangerous is it to live around Penn Park?
I'm moving to York from Hanover. I know the crime rate is higher but I don't exactly know what to expect. There's really decent rental properties in that area for a pretty reasonable price but I suspect the price has to due with crime being more prevalent around there.
Can anyone shed some light for me or even give other areas to avoid?

Looking for someone to help me practice driving in York/Manchester, PA ā Willing to pay $40/hr
Hey everyone!
Iām 26 and currently living in Manchester, PA. I have a valid learnerās permit, but unfortunately, I donāt have any family or friends nearby who can help me practice driving or let me use their car.
Iāve actually driven before, so Iām not starting from scratch! I mainly need to brush up on my driving skills, rebuild my confidence behind the wheel, and get comfortable enough to take the road test.
Iāve contacted pretty much every driving school I could find around York, and the situation is honestly ridiculous. Most are completely booked, and one school told me their waitlist extends all the way to summer 2027.
I live in a very car-dependent area, and commuting to work without a car has been an absolute nightmare. I genuinely canāt afford to wait another year just to get my license.
Iām willing to pay $40/hour to someone who:
Is an experienced driver and legally eligible to supervise someone with a learnerās permit.
Would be comfortable letting me practice in their car (assuming insurance allows it).
Could ideally let me use their car for my eventual driving test. Happy to pay extra for that!
Iām flexible with scheduling and more than willing to work around your availability.
Iām really just trying to become independent and make my daily commute a little less miserable. Itās been incredibly frustrating trying to figure this out without family nearby or access to a vehicle.
Does anyone know of instructors with immediate availability, people who might be willing to help, or any other alternatives?
Even if you canāt help directly, Iād genuinely appreciate any leads or suggestions.
Thanks so much, everyone! Really hoping Reddit can come through for me on this one. š

Chocolate Torte
Anyone know where I can get a good chocolate torte? I absolutely adored the ones from Copper Crust before they closed, but haven't been able to find anywhere else that sells them.
I know Janina's Fine Desserts have some amazing chocolate cakes, but I haven't seen them carry a torte

cone of the week (10/9): the memorial hall door cone
this week's winner is the cone posted up outside memorial hall at the york expo center.
all week it's been holding the door while the hocus poke-us tattoo convention sets up (oct 10-11). two hundred tattoo artists, piercers, vendors, foot traffic everywhere, and this one cone out front hasn't moved, hasn't complained, hasn't asked for a tattoo of itself.
posture is textbook. still perfectly upright after load-in day, which is more than most of us can say. didn't even flinch when somebody leaned a sandwich board against it on tuesday. or maybe it flinched internally. we don't judge.
i'm naming this one len.
verdict: 9.5/10. half point off for the sandwich board incident.

r/yorkpa, where do you actually eat in York?
Hi, weāre four friends and weāve put together Yorkās restaurant scene in an app called Vota.
The idea is pretty simple: youāre shown two restaurants and choose where youād rather eat. For example, The Handsome Cab or Tutoniās? All the votes then create a ranking that hopefully gives a better picture of where people in York actually like to eat.
Weāve tried to include every restaurant in York and clean up duplicate or outdated listings, but locals will always spot things weāve missed.
iPhone:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota/id6744969212
Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app
Full transparency: weāre not from York. Two of us live in Copenhagen and the other two in Gothenburg. There are four of us building this independently. We donāt collect or sell personal data, there are no ads in the app, and we donāt use AI-generated content to describe restaurants.
Any honest feedback is welcome, especially if restaurants are missing or something is listed incorrectly.

How's life around York as a bartender?
The wife and I have an opportunity to relocate from Baltimore. My background is in craft at volume in nicer spaces, but I'm not opposed to earning a buck anywhere I can. Bartenders in the area, what would I be getting myself into? Would it be worth it to commute down into Baltimore or could I make a solid living in York?

Anyone want to go see Todd Packer this Friday (free)?
I have an extra ticket to David Koechner's show this coming Friday (10/9 @ 8:45 pm) at Boomerangs. They are non-refundable so instead of letting it go to waste, I figure this would be a fun way to meet a new person.
Ideally you would be female, single, between 35 and 50. But hey, I'd be down for anyone as long as you are not a weirdo.
Shoot me a PM if you are interested!
