OTHER Uptade about this post
Probably people aren't interested after 1 year, but I just want say thank you for all the positivity back then, the pretty friendly replies to this post helped me to convince my friend (and another one) to play this franchise and now we are three more women who loves Yakuza (I say we are basically Kiryu, Nishiki and Yumi, but without the tragedy, so we are the wholesome version lmao)
Anyway, I feel sometimes people forget the good moments in a sea of negativity and devs poor decisions, but Yakuza is really special for me and I just want share that with this community
Hope all kyodais have friends to share their passion

SPOILERS: YAKUZA 4 What's the general consensus on Yakuza 4? And who did you enjoy playing as the most? Spoiler
New to the sub, but in general online, I don't see many people talking about this game. Please bear in mind, I have only 100% completed (and played in general) Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1/2, and Yakuza 3/4 Remastered. Please do not comment anything unrelated to these games, thank you.
Out of the four protagonists, aside from Kiryu himself who we already care about, I really clicked with Akiyama. The dude just has a swagger and gameplay style I love, but his gameplay seems really weak due to the lack of heat actions (but I guess that makes you not rely on them as much). The dude has FOUR, it's the least of all four characters to boot. Saejima at least gets six. It makes it stale after enough time, but I love Akiyama's voice work and character too much to care. And his kick-heavy style is fun to utilize. To my knowledge, I know he does return in at least one more game but I have no idea which that is, but I already know this man is one of my GOATs.
Tanimura is probably my second favorite of the new three. His parry is piss easy to abuse, his rush combos are different enough to be used in different situations, his heat actions are easy to hit (it's basically free), and he has some cool mechanics (like the arrest heat action). The only thing I don't like is I think he's too easy to use. A big cool thing I loved about the other games was stuff like the Komaki Parry/Tiger Drop being skill moves you have to land at the proper time, but the parry window for Tanimura is absurdly long full upgraded. Also, his heat actions at the end of combos are too easy to use and abuse, and I even have times where I don't mean to use it and just accidentally pressed the button twice, a bit annoying but nothing crazy.
I have to say that Saejima's heavy bruiser style gameplay just does not click with me. I don't like it much at all. Maybe it's just due to having four playable characters, but it seems pretty basic. Perhaps I'm just ass at playing him, but the only cool thing to him is that he has armor against most attacks while charging up his moves. But like... I just find myself spamming the same combos over and over until I can just pop a heat action. And him not having the "cat-like reflexes" upgrade available to him makes getting knocked down take an eternity to get back up. I didn't like the Beast Style in 0 either, to be clear, but it was 100% more tolerable than what Saejima has. Not sure if it's a hot take or anything.
In terms of story, I think it was okay. It definitely didn't hit like Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1, or even 3 did. But I think a part of that is that the twists were just getting ridiculous at a certain point. Always another player at large, always another twisted betrayal. Like it's not bad per say, but it got a bit absurd with the amount of backstabs we were getting every chapter it seems. That and maybe it's just series fatigue or something, but there is a ongoing trend of the bad guys just realizing their mistake and just turning good at the end. I know this isn't exactly unrealistic, as people can change when shit hits the fan, but like... Arai turns bad, then good. The young dude who is his sworn brother turns bad then good. The corrupt cop that Tanimura fights at the docks turns good, etc. Like why does everyone just have a change of heart so often? There are more leaf turners than dudes that just stay evil. Even Hamazaki becomes a good guy and he literally tried to murder Kiryu not a year before, left him for dead in the middle of the street in front of his (basically) daughter. Am I tripping with this? I don't hate it or anything, but it's getting a bit corny now. Still had a fun time though. The four protagonists rolling up in suits was straight gas.

SPOILERS: KIWAMI 3/DARK TIES Finished YK3
I have platinumed Yakuza Kiwami 3 a few days ago and despite the controversies I had a lot fun with this game, but there are some things I found weird after finishing this game so here are some things I liked and some things I didn’t like that much.
Liked:
•I really the Morning Glory minigame or storyline I’m not sure what to call it, but I loved Kiryu spending time with all the kids and stuff.
•The Bad Boy Dragon minigame was kinda fun and seeing some characters in the minigame was kinda funny.
•I really liked Mine’s fighting style it felt really smooth and his moveset is really sick imo.
•I know the ost in this game isn’t really amazing but songs like Receive and Stab You, Pure Malice, Ryukyu Style, RYUKYU ~ MJZK, Fly, Alone in the Darkness, and Dark Alley are ones that I really like.
•The phone customization was nice and I love that certain accessories like the straps, lockscreens, and antennas give certain stat buffs, it kinda reminds me of the ring system in Pirate Yakuza.
Disliked:
•Dragon style feels a bit off sometimes like how the quickstep attacks are changed.
•Komaki, Mack, and some other training masters aren’t in the game for some reason.
•In the original I think there were 100 or something substories in the original Yakuza 3, and now there are only 31 substories.
•There is no heat action list so it’s hard to tell how many heat actions are in the game.
•Bosses always have two health bars, also I think substory bosses and reapers have two health bars too.
•I kinda found the ending to YK3 a little bit weird but I won’t spoiled it or at least I don’t think I am.
Overall I had a fun time with this game, but this game kinda is the weakest remake in the series imo, so I think my rating would be a 8.5/10. Also sorry if this post offends anyone that really like this game, this is just my personal opinion.
