man tbh WoW really makes it clear that serving the light kinda sucks. Tirion says "Light give me one final blessing" and the light is like "bet."

Liadrin ALSO says "give me one final blessing" and the light is like "yep."

Anduin gets a little depressed and the light is like "lmao see you later."

Forsaken priests that use the light are burned by it. Literally.

Meanwhile characters like Khadgar are out here like "Oh you thought I was out of magic and dead? Well here's even more magic. And then more."

The only other class with such persnickety magic is shaman, because the elements are like a conscious thing that can make decisions for themselves. But at least shaman KNOW the elements can be tricky. The light is like "serve me and do great things!" then 10 minutes later "actually I changed my mind i want to go to bennigans and have mozz sticks and play darts GL buddy."

Turalyon better watch out. He's gonna be making pasta salad or something one day and be like "light grant me one final dressing" and then in his next fight the light is gonna be like "sorry bud still counts" and he's gonna fall over dead.

maybe if they'd stop calling it a "final" blessing

"Light, grant me the strength to shatter these bonds" (Tirion survives)

"Light, grant me the power to fuck shit up"

Do you are saying the light takes things very literally. Call it the last and it makes damn sure it is

You know what's worse? By being a good (TM) Paladin you deserve to be taken to the Bastion.... Where you get your memory wiped and get to serve as an NPC (literally AND figuratively) forever.

It's unironically better to be a shitty person and work on yourself in Revendreth, but at least still be yourself.

Also, your downplaying Priests (also worshipping the Light), Druids (if we talk canon they get they powers from Sun, Moon and Wild Gods). Their blessings aren't 'free' either. DKs, DHs, Warlocks, Mages and Evokers are the ones that wield the magic they use, but it can be corrupting/maddening. Unironically, in terms of using magic Evokers have it the best: it's natural, it's 'positive' (not harsh to use like Light, Shadow, Fel and Death can be) and can't be 'lost' in a technical sense.

Although... It is worth remembering that Devourer DHs a d Velves in general control natural Void forces and, on the contrary: Blood Knights literally enslaved the Light to do their bidding... As well as Dark Shamans doing the same with elements. So it's not as straightforward as it seems at first glance

I know nobody wants to think too deeply about Shadowlands, but Bastion changed this policy. They decided not to erase memories anymore. I honestly don't agree with this lore decision because I actually liked the reasoning behind why Bastion was doing it, but Bastion doesn't do that anymore.

Ye, that's true, but that policy has been in place for like 4? 5? years by this point and all who came before got factory reset. I also understand why they did it, but for the "best" afterlife it's arguably the worst one besides the Maw

Thankfully those are far from the only shadowlands because it would genuinely suck ass

There’s barely anything left before Midnight becomes worse than SL in terms of storytelling. I genuinely think that what would make Midnight worse than Shadowlands is if, after we take down Xal'atath, she tells us, "I did this because an even greater threat is coming."

Meanwhile at Blizzard HQ "Write that down. Write that down!"

so, genuinely...WHY did she have to die? like, running out of battery power? seriously? it felt very shallow and pedantic, which is the opposite of what a character who has been around since TBC should've been

Exhausted: Unleashing Divine Radiance places immense strain on Liadrin, reducing the effectiveness of Light's Embrace and Refulgent Bulwark, and increasing the damage of Suffocating Darkness by 10%. This effect stacks.

Stupid, but this Dungeon Journal entry is the only given reason. They could've at least used a version of Blessing of Sacrifice so it wasn't due to a generic Light spell that a priest NPC could have cast.

Pretty sure Exhaustion resets when boss encounters end, must be a bug

2

u/Nathremar8 2h ago

Yes, if they made her use a Blessing of Sacrifice like old Classic / TBC, that would make so much more sense. Like we already have a spell in game that did this, why does she just plop down and die after.

>this is what killed Liadrin

LOL, god this patch is a joke.

The light channeling through her burned her out. It killed her. She said "let my life sustain them". She traded her life for ours so the light was like ok sure and blasted a lethal amount of light through her. Its like radiation poisoning.

I dont get it are people meming or just failing to understand the concept?

I agree with you. However, it seems that the main problem is that most people didn't see the raid battle; they only saw the cinematic. The more I think about it, the more it seems that the strong reaction to Liadrin's death is caused by the developers deciding to really use the video game format, which is... surprisingly uncommon for World of Warcraft. Cinematics usually gave you all the information you needed.

That being said, I'm not a fan of Midnight's storytelling. I find it boring, and I hate it because I was really looking forward to it. But Liadrin's death isn't part of the problem for me.

yea there needed to be more of her explicitly saying something about being a conduit of that much holy energy was fatal, like even a voiceover in her head saying that so.

people just watch a cinematic with zero context then meme and jump to conclusions when they dont have the full picture.

blizz should have just held their hands better

I swear like half the people on this sub (at least) don't read anything or pay attention to anything that's not in a cutscene.

Quest text? Ignored.

Spoken by characters during a quest? Ignored.

Side quests that aren't part of the main campaign? Unless you give good loot that's ignored.

Stay a while and listen? uhhh.... why tho?

Like I get it if you miss things from books and comics but this is lore in the game and people miss it.

People are out there talking about how Salandria came out of nowhere but she's been showing up all throughout the expansion.

This is honestly one of the biggest issues with WoW lore criticism, how many times do people watch an unfinished cutscene on a PTR patch with no context and then take to Reddit to complain

1

u/Stormfly 56m ago

I mean I just watched the cinematic and it's fine.

My only criticism is that the "Arthur fist ground pound" moment is too much.

The rest is fine. I think people are genuinely just upset that she died in a heroic sacrifice that didn't have any badass one-liners and a huge explosion.

1

Thats why im convinced they are just meming for attention. Like if you do the boss, it explains why she dies in the voicelines. But I also wouldn't be surprised either. People just have no context and are gunna go for the low hanging fruit.

I find it more odd that kithix was completely silent, even afterwards in the quest. Like is his dialogue missing? He said the one thing when he aggroed but that was it.

u/Rage17Blaze 7h ago

Simple, because WoW writers hate anything Horde.

1

u/RookTheBlindSnake 4h ago

She got Padme'd.

u/pnwexpat 3h ago

Around since TBC and get nuked by a random bad guy living in a cave in a minor content patch. Rough way to end. Someone in the writing staff really did not like her!

u/Fusshaman 6h ago

The writing process has been "democratized".

5

u/Azsunyx 3h ago

this was how i saw it

6

u/arkangel1138 8h ago

Wtf I just saw that video 5 seconds before this. Y'all work fast.

I've not seen anyone asking the important question, can you loot her after the cinematic?
