do something about it

lifelong canadian

don't make me come over and do it for you

97

u/Disco__Gravy 10h ago

You wont and he wont. Reddit is a bunch of talk.

30

u/Dmaa97 8h ago

Canadians have already boycotted the US and caused immense localized economic pain, particularly for places that voted for Trump. Canadians are doing their part.

Americans are doing their part too. I vote in every election. You should too. Everyone should.

We’ll see in November whether the American people decide to “do something about it”.

4

u/Dependent_House7077 7h ago

Americans are definitely not doing enough. i mean, how is that clown still in power?

17

u/CosmopolitanIdiot 6h ago

That clown's political party happens to control all branches of government...for now.

0

u/DiabolicallyRandom 1h ago

Some Americans do all they can reasonably be expected to do at this juncture. Other americans do nothing and stick their heads in the sand. And other americans cheer on the insanity. I consider myself among the first, and hate the second group more than the third.

1

u/DiabolicallyRandom 1h ago

xtends to the rest of our historically traditional allies as well -- and that their officials grow some balls and both voice their opinions and start dialogues about how to bypass the United States in trade and other cooperative efforts.

You can't really boycott a country you live in when other countries (for good reason) don't want you to move there.

99

u/4umlurker 9h ago

Are you kidding? Canada is one of the few
Countries that has been standing up to it. Canadians are boycotting products on their own without the government telling people to. Our government has a historical high approval from standing up to their shit. Don’t lump us in with Americans just rolling over and letting it happen. “I voted and showed up to 2 protests on a Saturday 6 months apart. What more do you want from me?”. We are not the same.

7

u/Disco__Gravy 9h ago

I said that one person wont and that other person wont. You lumped them up and assigned them groups of Americans and Canadians. I didnt do that either.

31

u/Allaplgy 8h ago

Oh look, someone who actually gets it.

There are a ton of forces out there trying to divide us and force us to hate each other.

I support Canada boycotting or using trade measures to put pressure on the US. What I'm not down with is people hating people simply because of what side of a border they fall on.

3

u/zasabi7 8h ago

Whoa whoa whoa …. What about Quebecians?

6

u/Qaeta 7h ago

They prefer to be called Quebecois, and nobody gets to hate on them but us (Anglo Canadians). For reference, see our overwhelming support for them when Trump tried to fuck with them by demanding we remove French language protections during trade negotiations.

2

u/Allaplgy 7h ago

Yes, even the Quebecoise.

1

u/DiabolicallyRandom 1h ago

Bruh, they gave the world poutine. I eat it every time I visit. There can be no hate there.

2

u/zasabi7 1h ago

Wait, poutine comes from Quebec?!

2

u/DiabolicallyRandom 1h ago

Yessir! When my Canadian friend gave me the low down I was shocked. I always figured it was like an older thing, but its quite recently created dish.

3

u/lancebaldwin 6h ago

What the actual hell do you think we can do except for show up to vote, and protest when and where we can?  I live 2.5 hours away from a major city, many others do as well.

Canada has 6 metro areas with a 1M+ population, US has 53.  Canada has 41 metropolitan areas total, US has 387.

Organizing protests, or major protests being condensed for messaging, is a hell of lot easier in Canada and other places with similar populations than it is in the US.  We're around the same area as Canada, but our population is actually spread out.

I live in Oklahoma, and was screamed at and threatened for my protesting in a small closer city and in Oklahoma City.  Should I protest in NYC or Washington DC?  I would love to, I can neither afford it financially nor the time investment of traveling.  (I don't mean I'll get something else instead of sacrificing the money, I would be homeless and hungry)

Can't really boycott American goods now can I?

What do you think we should do?  All I can think of right now is trying to convince people to go vote in the midterms and hope they actually do it.

What I would fucking love is to not be told that I should be doing something that is not really feasible.

-6

u/Allaplgy 6h ago

“I voted and showed up to 2 protests on a Saturday 6 months apart. What more do you want from me?”.

Funny, you did nothing as well besides live on the "right" side of a border. Oh no! You don't buy whiskey you never bought anyway! Your government (not you) is standing up to our government (we support that, "we" being those opposed to Trumpism). But you didn't do anything.

We're all on the same side here (I hope). Don't think you are special or immune to the same jingoism that brings us things like MAGA.

3

u/4umlurker 3h ago

I cut out almost all American products from my life with exceptions of items that I have no alternative for. I have not stepped foot in the states in the last 2 years and don’t plan on ever going back. Prior to this, I use to go to the states 4-5 times a year. We were close to electing a conservative government with a landslide election and everyone flipped hard to voting for carney because we knew PP would sell us out because he was parroting too much of the MAGA bullshit. I don’t think you understand just how pissed off canadians are and how much effort many are taking to cut out spending money that goes towards America. Keep telling yourself we are just the same as the Americans limpdick response. Just because your media does not tell you of how our people are responding does not mean it’s not happening.

-4

u/Allaplgy 3h ago

. I don’t think you understand just how pissed off canadians are and how much effort many are taking to cut out spending money that goes towards America. The irony here is palpable.

"I had to change my vacation plans! And don't buy a few things I didn't want anymore anyway! I'm a revolutionary!"

Holy shit, thank you for perfectly illustrating what I was talking about.

You're here demanding people lay their lives down to help you, and the best you got is "I changed my vacation plans!"

54

u/Loud_Chapter1423 9h ago

The irony of people on Reddit telling other people on Reddit to do something will never not be funny to me

26

u/bmore142 9h ago

At least you find it funny I'm getting sick of it. Atleast in 2-3 years when Europe does the same thing we did and vote in far right groups into power we can then tell them "Why aren't you killing each other and having a civil war"

12

u/xX_7HR0W-4W4Y_Xx 9h ago

I sincerely hope they don't vote in the far-right but yeah they would certainly see then how easy it is to overthrow the government (hint: not easy!!!)

6

u/joshTheGoods 8h ago

I think there's a nonzero chance /u/Obvious-Human1 votes. Speak up, /u/Obvious-Human1 ... are you in fact a human? Have you voted or do you intend to vote?

-1

u/Obvious-Human1 8h ago

I don’t owe shit to you but yes I voted. Placed in box yesterday. Have the day you deserve.

11

u/joshTheGoods 8h ago

My guy, I'm in here defending you. You did do something about it. You're not all talk.

And I will try to keep having the day I deserve and voted for. Thanks? smh.

3

u/Any_Cake2411 4h ago

How was your day, anyway?

1

u/joshTheGoods 3h ago

Pretty good! Thanks ;). How about you?

1

u/VoopityScoop 6h ago

They're on your side

1

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 6h ago

Disagree, at least for this topic. I’d argue Redditors are probably more politically aware than the average person and are most likely to go vote

1

u/atreeismissing 6h ago

Give he's about to lose at least 1 if not both houses of Congress it looks like most Redditors are doing exactly what is required in a mid-term.

16

u/L0chness_M0nster 9h ago

The midterms are coming up and the Dems are slated for huge wins in historically Republican territories. Trump will be out of office in two years. Our form of government was built for this exact situation.

Please tell me what you will come over and do?

22

u/Otherwise_Silver4009 9h ago

Don't make me come over there and wave a sign for a couple hours on a Saturday asking you kindly to please cut it out!!!!!!!

1

u/Mahat 9h ago

i'll send over a nice gift basket

2

u/badgerj 9h ago

We did once on August 24, 1814.

They seem to be doing an adequate job themselves.

9

u/Obvious-Human1 9h ago

👆 This. We are all stuck on the Titanic until 2028.  Some Americans, myself, are educated. Know how damaging and awful, waves hands around, is.

Even if the election is not tampered with by Muskrat and Democrats win, I have sincere concerns about backlash.

33

u/ChatamKay 9h ago

We’ll see what your system (government) is built for in 6 weeks. He will deny the election and then what? What are you going to do then?

The same things you’ve done so far. Sweet fuck all?

We’re all about to see exactly what your system is. And we have zero faith in it.

Now prove me wrong!

18

u/Bizzyzed 9h ago

But but they have all those guns to stop exactly this sort of thing right?

18

u/macjester2000 9h ago

We can't prove you wrong before the election happens. My belief is the defeat will be significant (it has to be to account for how much cheating and fuckery they're trying to pull already). Afterwards, he will do his normal crying of "cheating and rigged election" nonsense. If/when he tries to do something is when people will wake up. I don't mean full blown armed insurrection, but I think if people feel like they've followed the legal path to deal with him, and he ignores it, then something "else" needs to happen. Remember, he was unsuccessful in the Jan. 6 overthrow attempt. Yes, that was predicated on others doing things (Pence, Capital Police, etc.), but the system held. Him not being held accountable/punished is a different issue (however significant). There will come a point that people will be pushed too far, or believe they have no other options/choices. I don't think we're quite there yet.

18

u/opodopo69 9h ago

"Those who make a peaceful revolution impossible make a violent revolution inevitable"

3

u/tetanusmaster 5h ago

That idiot denies every election, even the ones he wins, who cares if he does it again? He has no levers of power to pull to do anything about the election and no control over the situation beyond crying on his social media platform. His Jan. 6th riot was a failure and the next one will fail too.

Being a doomer like you are does nothing except negatively impact morale on the left which in turn depresses voter turnout. Doomerism only serves fascists. You work for Trump.

0

u/ChatamKay 4h ago

Oh so it’s a Canadians fault. Did you here he called us the 51st state again today. And I’m called a doomer!

3

Rofl!

12

If you can't handle me at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best. Good luck with your new superpower.

2

The last "blue wave" ended in a litteral bloodbath. Hard to argue against the rest of the world's apprehension and doubt.

1

u/DiabolicallyRandom 1h ago

the Dems are slated for huge wins

I have heard this one before. Stop saying it. Go fucking vote. Tell everyone to vote. Don't push a positive narrative. It makes people stay home.

1

u/fluffy_doughnut 9h ago

WE DONT HAVE TIME

4

u/ShambolicRubel 9h ago

I’ll be voting pretty soon.

5

u/Mahat 9h ago

lets hope it counts, instead of being tampered with eh?

-3

u/bmore142 9h ago

Still haven't said what exactly you are going to do. We're planning on voting the midterms you seem to have other plans.

"don't make me come over and do it for you"

Please explain.

4

don't really have to do much anyway, trumps imploding right now. But if i have to, i'll have to.

You just said you will do it if it came to it so why tell people to vote? You’re gonna defend the constitution and do what’s necessary it’s not like you’re just on Reddit talking out of your ass or anything.

0

Yeah right. Big talk buddy

0

Still a lot better than all the cowardly Americans are doing

4

u/HurricaneHomer9 8h ago

By threatening to “come over and do it” online? Yeah sure lol

1

u/NicKaboom 4h ago

I mean I really hate this take. You act like the average person has any ability to do anything outside something very illegal.

We can show up to protest, campaign for good candidates, and vote accordingly, but that only foes so far when we have a corrupt government with a captured supreme court who has let the President run unchecked. Even then when a court does step in, they ignore the order and nothing is done because Maga holds both senate and the house and they just call recess anytime something may actually be done. We were about to get an impeachment on Hegseth, and Johnson closed the house for basically the remainder of the year.

People say "do something" but by all means please elaborate what the hell we can do outside continuing to vote and do the best we can to get in candidates who will actually play the game and hold people accountable, we are mostly SOL.

•

u/Mahat 28m ago

stop going to work and start protesting and being loud. Really loud. And annoying. Try being more annoying.

•

u/NicKaboom 7m ago

So if I don’t work I lose my house, the ability to feed my family, provide for them. What then? Starve and be homeless? You speak like a person who has no responsibilities in life.

We participate in protests, vote, and campaign for officials who are against everything happening, but it’s not just about being loud when they just ignore the laws and everything else.

Short of actual violence there isn’t much more the average citizen can do. If everyone participates we may have a chance, but it’s wildly ignorant to just say we need to “try harder”. We’re sick and tired of this orange POS in office and all his cronies, but it’s not just a be loud situation.

-1

u/ebbycalvinlaloosh 7h ago

As an American now living in Canada permanently, I ask you, a Canadian: what do you suggest?

I’m not sure irrationally angry Canadians understand the pressure of voter suppression and the blinding surreality that swing state votes were likely, actually stolen in the last election. There has been a techno fascist coup propped up by Russian disinformation and a money hungry private media enterprise dedicated only to views and ad revenue. It’s not like it is up here.

And why do Canadians seem to forget how many of you stood LOUDLY behind the Trump campaign?? Relative to the size of the population, Canadian MAGAts were proportionately more dangerous in some respects, as it added to the volume of pro-Trump voices.

I’m just getting a little tired of this rhetoric from my new countrymen, particularly online. There’s culpability here (edit: in Canada) and most Americans are scared, oppressed and feel helpless.

1

u/honeybadgerrulez 7h ago

this is my gripe as well. by all means shit on americans, but i want to hear specific examples of what should be done. people act like it’s some sort of easy thing to do when they’re perfectly smart enough to know it isn’t

2

u/Mahat 6h ago

don't elect a lying, thieving pedophile and expect it to go well?

0

u/mainecrooner 7h ago

"IRRATIONALLY ANGRY" LMAO. Shut the hell up.

-1

u/Mahat 7h ago

yeah, thiel can get fucked too.

y'all have guns, democracy demands blood once in a while. And i do get into it quite a bit with racist assholes quite frequently here as it is.

Go earn some scars.

1

u/ebbycalvinlaloosh 7h ago

What are you, 12?

0

u/Mahat 6h ago

trump should have been dealt with by contempt from day 1, or never elected in the first place

14

u/zenbu-no-kami 10h ago

Canadians would get more done than Americans lmao

0

u/STP_Fantasma 10h ago

They really wouldn’t. They have tons of their own problems, as all countries do

13

u/Mahat 10h ago

our biggest problem is your pedophile in chief

-1

u/STP_Fantasma 10h ago

Your biggest problem is not the current POTUS, although he is a big problem for you

5

u/Mahat 10h ago

your right, it's climate change, which your ignoramus of a kleptocrat ignores

1

u/JohnB456 9h ago

you can't really talk when you country is pushing through the construction of an oil pipeline through indigenous land.

1

u/Mahat 9h ago

i don't agree with it, but i accept the need to diversify our economy away from selling you cheap resources at buddy rates

i hate oil, and the banker in charge here

but i hate your asses more

besides, the wildfires will take care of that problem for me anyway

3

u/JohnB456 9h ago

So what. Your country's action represent you, as you make that clear to Americans. So same goes for you bud. Doesn't matter, your country is still doing it, still going to fuck up those ecosystems the pipelines run through. The indigenous population will hate it as they have treaty rights. Also that oil is planned to be sold to..... drum roll..... china. China who also supports Russia and Iran. So sure, cut America out, I get that. But there is no purity high ground, now you have to dirty your own hands and make your own deals with China. Can't hide behind the US making those deals.

6

u/STP_Fantasma 9h ago

“I dont see it happening”neither did any American in 2016, but im supposed to believe Canada is immune and has some type of higher power preventing that

2

u/GeoisGeo 9h ago

Our culture is a little bit different than yours. Though I would not expect an American to know or care. ✌️

5

u/STP_Fantasma 9h ago

I wouldn’t expect a Canadian to be willing to accept the fact that fascism can grow anywhere. You are the North American equivalent of Texas, where you pride yourselves on being culturally different but really the culture is just one huge facade 🥵

-9

u/STP_Fantasma 10h ago

You wouldn’t be capable of that. Not you or any Canadian. If you think Americans would hesitate to kill any Canadian who enters America with military intent, you got another thing coming. Why are so Canadians so intent on military action occurring with the UsA? Your countrymen are the only ones who ever even engage in that rhetoric, like you have something to prove about yourselves

4

u/runaway-devil 9h ago

Instead of threatning to kill Canadians why don't you do something about the orange elephant in the room? I never heard of a single Canadian saying there must be military action against the US, even though your president is the one speaking of annexing Canada. There's nothing to be proven, really. The US, however, does have a lot to prove to the whole world before any country worthy of itself would consider trusting you guys ever again.

0

u/STP_Fantasma 9h ago

It’s no threat, just a statement that Americans will not choose to protect Canadians before their own, and that’s just a fact. The commenter above you said something about burning down the white houses so I don’t think your “I haven’t seen any Canadian make threat” statement carried any weight at all, and that’s just one example of Canadians with a sore pussy getting caught up in divisive political commentary

2

u/Mahat 8h ago

that's not a threat, it's a promise.

1

u/STP_Fantasma 8h ago

You couldn’t make it within 100m of an American city before eating .30-06 or 5.56, or even worse, a drone that blows both your legs off 😂😂

1

u/ConsequenceLow9688 9h ago

Because we'd win, again

0

u/STP_Fantasma 9h ago

You’d have a heavily armed American population to contend with that would not hesitate to kill any Canadian soldier, i wouldn’t be very worried about it honestly

3

u/ConsequenceLow9688 9h ago

Well there's several states that would side with us too, plus we look like you and can dumb ourselves down to talk like you. You can't even beat enemies that look and talk nothing like you. How's that war in Iran going? How'd Afghanistan go? How about Vietnam?

-2

u/STP_Fantasma 9h ago

No US state would side with a foreign nation in a Canadian invasion. That’s just absolutely ridiculous, and it’s an unsupported opinion. I think you need to read more about what happened in Vietnam and Afghanistan because if I explain it, you won’t believe anything I say

5

u/ConsequenceLow9688 9h ago

Because you people lost and lost hard. There's lots of anti Trump states that will lend a hand, and the white house will be a new color :) fucking clown "just like my child raping president, I'll just make shit up to sound smart"

0

u/STP_Fantasma 9h ago

Compare the standard of living to S. Korea and S. Vietnam. There’s about 50 McDonald’s in Vietnam, but they are a communist country. Vietnam fell to communism, you’re correct about that, but the US won the Cold War. And now other countries like Japan and S. Korea have great standard of living and economies, while Vietnam cannot call itself a developed nation. That’s pure, sweet American victory baby. Losing the battle, but not the war, is the expression Americans use. Also, again no Canadian force could make it far enough to touch the White House, even if they commit tons of war crimes along the way. Again, see Russia 🤣🤣

There's a reason why our military calls it the Geneva checklist. You people lost to little dudes in sandals, using sticks and then lost again to slightly bigger dudes, living in caves and using slightly bigger sticks

1

u/Ok-Ad5495 9h ago

That's not the brag you think it is my guy, but Putin would love it.

0

u/STP_Fantasma 9h ago

It’s not a brag, just a reminder that any invasionary force won’t be shown mercy just because they are a stones throw across a border. And if Putin loves US and Canadians being against each other, why are Canadians buying into a Russian assets opinions and threatening America with an invasion? 😭🤣

1

u/ConsequenceLow9688 9h ago

Your president threatened, we just do. That's what you get for voting in a pedo, twice

-2

u/STP_Fantasma 10h ago

Committing war crimes doesn’t make you a powerful, or intimidating military force. See Russia. But nice try

-4

u/ConsequenceLow9688 10h ago

Russia is being beaten by people that have been letdown by the US, don't make us come down there. Yesterday was the anniversary of a battle we won with you silly fucks in 1812, time to repeat history

2

u/STP_Fantasma 9h ago

You couldn’t come down here and repeat anything. Americans would happily shoot you with their rifles, your only argument is a war from 200 years ago against a country that existed for less than 40 years
