Let's just cancel all Starlink Tesla spacex contracts, ban twitter, outlaw grok - that's the only way you can reduce elons power

845

u/Pebble-Sorter-8128 14h ago

Its not elon now, its the usa gov itself.

415

u/Letsgoski_Broski 14h ago

Changing the word "shit" doesn't change its essence.

115

u/Pebble-Sorter-8128 14h ago

State-backed oligarchic shit is much worse than a simple oligarchic shit.

39

u/Agitated-Love1727 13h ago

Isn't "state-backed" implied in the word oligarch?

6

u/FireMammoth 10h ago

Not really, an oligarch has power and influence through wealth and owenership. They dont need to be state backed

11

u/Agitated-Love1727 9h ago

Oligarchy is defined as "a government of few". It's a form of government/rule where power rests with very few people, owing to their wealth/nobility. Those people are known as oligarchs. Wouldn't the government have to enable these people in some way for them to be oligarchs?

2

u/AzraelIshi 9h ago edited 2h ago

Kinda sorta? It depends on the actual power they wield. Like, Chaebols in Korea are unfathomably powerful when compared to your average corporation in another country. "We will bend laws, hide murders, and just bend over backwards in general to ignore your afronts to humanity" kind of power. They are far too entrenched, far too much of the countries economy and workforce depends on them. Dismantling them would be so crippling to the South Korean economy (even if they attempted to preserve every asset and workplace) that it would be 5 differents kinds of career suicide to even attempt.

Like, I'm not entirely sure the Korean government even has the power to destroy Chaebols, if they ordered something like that there is a possibility the police or military would simply refuse the order, that's how much they depend on them.

On the other hand countries in, for example, the EU do have the full capacity to just nuke a corporation if they break the rules, attempt to become an oligarchy, etc. If they do or do not depends entirely on the politicians in charge, so you could make the case for the government allowing them to exist

The Republican Party has done this to us.
Vote please.

26

u/Skynuts 12h ago

The US Government funds Starshield, but SpaceX retain operational control over the infrastructure and rules of its network. This is the work of Musk, but Trump was most likely involved as well.

26

u/Qxzkjp 9h ago

That's not true. Biden worked very hard to make sure that would no longer be true, because he could see what a massive liability it was to have a mentally unstable manchild in control of a vital military asset. They are separate satellites, and the US gov has operational control once they are launched. If starshield has suddenly implemented speed restrictions, it will be because someone in the US Government decided it should be so.

7

u/Pebble-Sorter-8128 11h ago

My point is, the goverment now instructs directly their oligarchs. What musk doing is most likely an order from the gov.

7

u/Skynuts 10h ago

It's highly possible that Trump ordered him to do it. Musk is back in the White House after all, which means Trump is after something that Musk is in control of, and I don't think it's a coincidence that Trump sided with Russia the week after Musk got his job back. A position in the White House was probably what it took for Musk to give Trump control of Starshield.

0

u/Fract_L 7h ago

No, the US did not turn off Starlink above Ukraine. Musk did that personally. Please quit conflating who does what so we can actually stop the key individuals in a month

I have a big problem with anyone who watched that Nazi salute, and decided to still buy a 26 plate tesla. What happened to integrity? Fuck elon

50

u/grchelp2018 12h ago

You are learning a lesson that millionaires and billionaires learnt a long time ago. When I was yoing and naive, I worked at a company that got hit by a big consumer scandal and I thought the company was done for. Went to office thinking that I'd be walking into some crisis situation. Nope. Everything was normal and the ceo sauntered in after midday as usual. I couldn't believe everyone was taking it so lightly and marched to his office and asked him about. Luckily he was in a good mood, so after his initial "who the fuck is this kid" he decided to teach me about the business. Turns out that they had deep knowledge and stats about their customers and knew who bought their stuff where when and why. And most importantly they also knew what would make them leave. He had an analyst pull up detailed stats about how x% increase in price resulted in y% loss of customers. They had it down to a science and they knew the exact tiny % of people who could possibly change their mind due to the scandal. They had already modelled the possible financial impact and done other relevant things to shore up support. It was super illuminating and really changed the way I looked at customer behaviour and corporate behaviour.

33

u/jolsiphur 11h ago

In the 80s, Ford produced the Pinto. A travesty of a car in so many ways. Notably, the cars would ignite/explode if they were rear ended. Ford knew about the problems before they put the cars to mass market and decided that paying for the lawsuits that would come up when people found out was going to cost them less money than just fixing the problem.

The knowledge has been available for a long time that scandals don't tank companies like they should, and worse, the people on top do not give a single fuck if their products can and do kill people. They are perfectly find playing those games with the lives of people just to make a couple extra dollars.

12

u/WeakReplacement3322 9h ago

A new car built by my company leaves Somewhere, USA, traveling at 60 miles an hour. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.

u/alex76537 5h ago

I once boarded a plane, and noticed that one of the ceiling lights was working. It was the second time I flew on a plane, so I was pretty nervous, and that quote immediately came to my mind. I thought: "What else is not working in this plane and have they applied the formula before signing this plane off as airworthy?"

9

u/sorrysorrymybad 11h ago

That CEO was a kind man to give you that much time and attention.

11

u/No_Parsley_2838 10h ago

Eh, its generally good practice to explain things to your employees. In a few years you might get vital information because your employee wasnt afraid to talk to you.

46

u/justaddwhiskey 12h ago

“So you were okay with the salute?” Is a really good way to make a party awkward when somebody is talking about their new Tesla.

12

u/MostLikelyNotAnAI 6h ago

"So you were okay with the salute?" - "Oh, he's just autistic and misunderstood, besides it was a 'Roman Salute'!" - "Okay, You do it then. Go out on the street and do a 'Roman Salute' a'la Elon Musk if you fucking dare."

Crickets

Those people are so full of shit.

block all traffic from Russia as well.

8

u/HK1911 12h ago

Starlink doesn't work in Russia and never has.

17

u/GoldStacked 12h ago

Russia was using third parties to gain access to starlinks civilian version. It was absolutely working in Russia early on in the war.

4

u/Shigglyboo 10h ago

I meant in a larger sense. The rest of the e world should isolate Russia. No World Wide Web for them. Block all traffic from Russia. Block it at the first hub or whatever so they can’t even access VPN.

1

u/omysweede 13h ago

Why would Elon want to do that?

8

u/krashundburn 10h ago

Why would Elon want to do that?

Wrong question. The question is, why have we accepted that one rich bastard is capable of threatening the very survival of another country?

30

u/BigBananaBerries 14h ago

Europe wide would be a real kick in the stones. His wealth would drop like a stone off a cliff.

There's a vastly easier way to reduce his power.

2

u/Do-Not-Ban-Me-Please 10h ago

Thanks Mixxituk for saving the world

2

u/beermit 3h ago

Nah, go the other way. Seize his assets and sever all of his ties to them. If starlink is so good then one company shouldn't have control over it

4

u/JuiceJones_34 12h ago

If dems win the midterms, 100% will happen.

Thats step 2 tho. Step 1 to stop the major bleeding. Tariffs and the war.

14

u/Quick_Parking_6464 11h ago

If dems win the midterms, 100% will happen.

Huffing too much hopium. They need to grow spines first.

3

u/CocodaMonkey 11h ago

If the dems win the midterms they don't take power. Even if they win every single seat in the midterms all they have is essentially the ability to block most new things the Republicans want to do. They need a super majority to make any big changes and they won't have it. Even if they grow a backbone basically all they can do is slow down the bleeding for 2 years unless some Republicans decide to help them.

8

u/DNxHD36 12h ago

I doubt it. Dems have shown again and again that they are too afraid to rock the boat.

→ More replies (2)

11

u/Darklumiere 12h ago

Since SpaceX is a defense contractor, the US gov does have the legal right under extreme circumstances to seize the company and everything underneath it, which would include xAi. Though, I doubt the democrats will, speaking as a democratic socialist myself. The democrats, atleast what I call the classical democrats (all the old heads who are too scared of progression to do anything), however wouldn't ever make such a big move. For whatever reason, they are scared of changing things. Under Obama at one point, the democrats had full control of congress, as well as the president being a democrat and could have passed full universal Healthcare. Instead, they chickened out and nerfed it to the Medicare we have today.

Though hopefully these midterms will also replace some of those old democrats with younger, more progressive ones and we might actually have enough votes to say, take SpaceX under national security. I haven't seen a track record that backs that however.

2

u/Misterndastood 3h ago

Regardless of who's in office, money talks. They're all corrupt.

1

u/Ashmizen 1h ago

By what legal basis are you referring to?

I recall in ww2 the US government could force companies to produce military supplies, and that’s it?

→ More replies (9)

5

u/HK1911 12h ago

On what basis would dems ban a privately owed social network and ban his AI company?

10

u/JuiceJones_34 12h ago

u/ruum-502 9h ago

u/GoldStacked 11h ago

National Security. Only two words needed thanks to 9/11

2

u/Major_Wayland 12h ago

Starlink (as Starshield) is an extremely valuable part of the US military, and is pulling the rest of the things with it. Nothing would happen, regardless of the election results.

2

u/LasagnaSwirls 11h ago

No. Step one is remove and replace the president and his cabinet.

1

u/taarnbyCPH 12h ago

Which they cannot

1

u/Dealan79 9h ago

It won't happen with a midterm win. Anything the legislative branch passes needs to be signed by the President to become law, or be passed with a veto-proof majority. The latter would be impossible for Democrats to get even if they won every Senate seat up for election this year, as Senate seat elections are staggered so that only 1/3 of them are up for election at any one time, and Republicans are wholly owned by Trump. Democrats winning the midterm elections will be triage, allowing the legislature to actually exercise checks and balances and stemming the tide of legislation Trump and his GOP toadies want. They can do your step one, as that falls under the category of Congressional oversight. They can't get to step two until a Democrat holds the White House, and the earliest that will happen is more than two years from now.

1

u/CelticJewelscapes 7h ago

Wars. We need to punish Putin and Trump

3

u/gabrielohana3 14h ago

I'd say that by doing this you'd be giving him even more power.

The only way to reduce his power is to stop being dependent on his things for your country.

There can be contracts with Starlink, Tesla, SpaceX, or whatever X named thing he owns, but the thing is, countries around the world should invest in creating alternative to his technologies, Ukraine is only dependent on Starlink because Europe has no viable alternative/alternatives.

If there were alternatives, Ukraine could be using Starlink, but if Starlink were no to be the best options, they should be able to switch to something else.

I'm sorry but I find it a little funny when I see things like "Musk is playing politics", I mean, yeah, he is allowed to do that, he is a human being after all. Starlink is not a world resource, free to use for everyone, in the end of the day, it is still just a company, owned by a narcissistic man.

32

u/BasvanS 14h ago

That’s what they’re saying. He’s free to make choices, and those choices have consequences.

6

u/Catsplayingguitars 13h ago

It is because he can just help Russia with Starlink. If the entire thing did not exist it would not be a problem.

Same with twitter. He’s just using is for propaganda. If you cancel twitter or ban it he will just buy whatever he needs to get power. Elon is the problems because he is political. His products would have been fine if not for him.

2

u/Alex_Strgzr 9h ago

The EU does have its own alternative to Starlink, actually. IRIS2 is supposed to be operational next year. Eutelsat and Hisdesat could probably be used in the meanwhile.

2

u/CelticJewelscapes 7h ago

Or a crimes against humanity trial in the International Criminal Court. His whims and actions have killed people. He ahould be in prison.

1

u/wonkeykong 11h ago

Well... I have a suggestion for one final SpaceX launch with one specific passenger.

1

u/unTraditional_Fox419 9h ago

1

If this were in China and SpaceX were even 10% as large as it is now it would already be nationalized by force. And if Musk disagreed he'd be "disappeared" and reappear months later mysteriously all smiles and waves for it.

And the strange part - I'm not even fully against that idea. At least I wouldn't be if the blight on humanity that is Trump wasn't in power.

16

u/VONChrizz 13h ago

u/Toe160 12h ago

Musk didn't develop Starlink for the military... It's a commercial civilian product for those purposes first and foremost, Ukraine uses it by chance because is convenient.

1

u/MayoJam 11h ago

While I do agree that privately owned security installations are a real problem, there wasn't anything like official nation-state Polish warning issued to Musk. You have fallen victim to a bad journalists trying to inflate single person's tweet into a article worthy happening.

u/Tabbyredcat 14h ago

Cancel the contract with SpaceX, Poland.

61

u/Tirith 14h ago

That would only hurt Ukraine even more.

82

u/Tabbyredcat 14h ago

What are they going to do? Superblock Ukraine's access to Starlink instead of just blocking it? Poland shouldn't pay for a service that is not being provided.

35

u/dsmith422 13h ago

They haven't completely blocked it yet in Ukraine. So far, fElon is blocking it for drones but not for stationary or slowly moving things.

59

u/Tabbyredcat 12h ago

Back in August Poland almost cancelled the contract for less than this, and SpaceX backpedaled.

You can't charge for a service in full and provide half the services you agreed to provide. It's still breach of contract and any company doing this should be held accountable.

5

u/Technolog 11h ago

First we should send a few warning tweets I guess.

57

u/PM_me_your_O_face_ 13h ago

Not to defend musk because he is indefensible in many regards, but he is the scapegoat here and everyone is all aboard. The service interruptions Ukraine experienced were related to starshield, not starlink.

This was 100% the US government blocking access to prevent Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil infrastructure, while at the same time not sharing information about incoming ballistic missile attacks from Russia against Ukraine, striking their energy infrastructure.

83

u/biscuitarse 13h ago

Scapegoat? Gimme a break, he's pumped over $300 million into the Republican coffers to try and steal the mid-term elections. Trump and the fascists running the US are beholden to Musk.

10

u/jwormyk 8h ago

Bless your heart. You really think there is any distinction between the US Government and Musk. Have you been living in a cave for the last two years? Elon paid for the election, went in with DOGE and literally broke down any barrier which could have kept his hand out of the US policy cookie jar.

16

u/HK1911 12h ago

Because the corporate goons created a thing entire nations depend on and elected officials did not.

Midly related, but as a Polish person i hate this kind of loose journalism, where they attribute one snarky tweet of our national defense minister to a country as a whole - as a diplomatic statement, a warning even???.

I hate Musk and american corpocracy as much as the next person but assuming MILLIONS OF POLISH CITIZENS have exact same opinion on a given topic only because one dude from the goverment posted VERY mildly displeased tweet is quite a reach. It is not "Poland says". It is "Polish foreign minister writes a tweet on his PRIVATE twitter account". But that does not generate clicks as good I reckon.

Basically, two influential people are bickering on a public platform and somehow that is news worthy. It is a nothingburger that won't have any impact on anything whatsoever. Journalism!

4

u/SaddenedSpork 13h ago

I’m surprised we haven’t seen any efforts by western intelligence agencies to… solve some of these issues- in the wake of the gutting of the US government of thousands of experts previously employed for years at various agencies and departments, they aren’t exactly functioning at peak

5

u/drewbles82 13h ago

It's clear as day Elon is on the side of Russia, housed most of his bots there, does this with starlink, helped put Trump into power, pushing for right wing governments everywhere possible. I really hope this and that 4hour documentary coming out ends his career for good, take all his assets from him and lock him up.

13

u/PM_me_your_O_face_ 13h ago

Not to defend musk against the well deserved hate here, but he is the scapegoat here and everyone is all aboard it seems. The service interruptions Ukraine experienced were related to Starshield, not Starlink. Starshield is the US defense version of Starlink.

This was 100% the US government blocking access to prevent Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil infrastructure, while at the same time not sharing information about incoming ballistic missile attacks from Russia against Ukraine, striking their energy infrastructure.

10

u/KorunaCorgi 12h ago

This talking point is so tiring. Starshield is just the fancy name for a different subscription service. It's about permissions, not hardware.

9

u/mfb- 10h ago

It's about who makes the decision how it is used. For Starshield that is the US government.

2

u/InteractionSoft14 7h ago

If only the CEO was bff's with the president

→ More replies (7)

1

u/Ashmizen 1h ago

Yes but the point is that Elon gave up those controls when he created starshield.

It’s like blaming Lockheed Martin for bombing a school because the missile and targeting software was made by them. Yes, but the operator is the US military who decides the targets.

Starshield has to comply with US military orders, assuming they haven’t handed software directly to Pentagon that handles its restrictions directly without even needing to contact SpaceX.

8

u/UAP_enthusiast_PL 13h ago

It only happened after the Yandex strikes, so it's not about diesel prices.

It is about the bots supporting AfD, ReformUK and other MAGA-aligned groups. The US and Elon both want those operating uninterrupted. There is no conflict of interest here between Elon and the US gov.

We can’t ignore the fact that Starlink is a division of a private company. Musk will do what he wants, whether Ukraine or Poland or EU likes it or not.

7

u/Tabbyredcat 14h ago

And there will be consequences

u/ryencool 5h ago

One man should not be able to wffect a war on this scale, with his/her personal beliefs. Ignoring that Ukraine has been illegally invaded, just so you can save face and business deals with crooked Russians?

2

u/Kursiel 13h ago

If this is true, why should anyone ever trust Starlink again.

1

u/spin_kick 3h ago

what choice do they have?

1

u/WolfwoodGg 10h ago

Couldn't the next Democrat DOJ extradite Musk and others to Europe for swift justice? Just need a bit of quick action there one day it seems

Aren’t you excited to license a foreign company to provide infrastructure when you can see how they play with it to further political aims?

•

u/PerfectMenu1253 1h ago

and what are you going to do…besides watching? Lol

•

u/rotrap 49m ago

Considering it was a request from the US government the way this is being portrayed is assinine. Did 'Poland' really warn Musk, shurly they are not that ignorant.

Hold tech platforms, executives and developers legally responsible for harmful content and automated influence campaigns designed to interfere in the internal politics of sovereign, democratic nations.

Musk only has power because he's rich. He doesn't have nation state power. Any nation state can make him fuck right off... And they should.

6

u/queBurro 13h ago

If Trump had lost, he'd have been broke and in jail

SpaceX still needs a license to operate on the terrestrial frequencies for units in the country.

If that license is revoked, then units become illegal to operate. The business entity can no longer sell units in-country, and residents can't legally use them. To avoid the wrath of the nation further, SpaceX would have to turn off the system over that area.

If Musk wants to be involved in a war, then he needs to be reminded that he can also be removed from the war.

The Pentagon clearly is aware of this however, as they've appointed him (and Newt Gingrich) to co-lead Project Meridian at the Pentagon, effectively making him a military asset. So attacking Elon would be an attack on US military.

1

u/K_Linkmaster 11h ago

Poland ain't gonna do shit to musk as long as he is USA based. Sanctioning his cars would be about it. Musk is about 3 seconds from just running to a safe country at any time.

5 years of just watching, what a brave statement… nobody cares anymore if you can only watch

u/Hamstaaboy 14h ago

Nato countires do alot of watching, they just dont do alot of doing

5

u/Interesting_Pen_167 12h ago

It's funny reading all the lead-up to WW2 when the Nazis were basically trying to call bluffs over and over again and finally when their bluff was called they were like 'But..... but... it's only POLAND!'. I'm sure if NATO did do something folks like you would complain that they acted.

u/Accomplished-Bee1350 14h ago

Ignorance is bliss for you, isn't it.

u/fiesty_canuck 14h ago

Lack of educational standards and a countinuous feed of misinformation/propaganda normally turn the idiots with low congnitive scores, unable to think for themselves or to process facts from lies. Idiots are idiots and simply manipulated using thier emotions.

tldr: Americans are fucking idiots.

"You forgot Poland" - Poland

1

u/NormalSociety 8h ago

It has nothing to do with the fact that NATO is a defense agreement, not an offensive pact...
