Trump says "massive" oil, gas and mineral exploration in Greenland is "getting ready to begin"

and let me guess, Greenland and Denmark has no idea what Trump is talking about. Tomorrow: "It is happening because I said its happening."
Nice try but I've seen this movie before....

He needs to say something every few hours to stay relevant and feed his own ego. Always a deal, always something he himself made happen…(but made up accounts for 99% of his statements)

u/Rusty-Swashplate 19h ago
He also says currently a lot of things hoping it will lower die gas/diesel prices. It does not matter what he says as true, totally made up or a purposefully missleading lie as long as the gas/diesel prices drop. He'll just continue spewing out more.

No idea if this is even true. He said he decided that Ukraine and Russia should quit fighting on his word alone.

He’s dementia’d as fuck. How do we take anything he says seriously…. besides his control over the nuclear football and having command of the (currently) strongest military power.
3
u/Jale89 20h ago
Even if he were in full control of his faculties, we are getting close enough to the midterms that we can expect all kinds of other bullshit like this to be thrown around by him and his ilk, because by the time the truth catches up or the adverts get rescinded, it will already be too late to matter.

All those: don't tread on me + Supports ICE, blue lives matter + the punisher, the us flag + southern racist flag. The entire 2A crowd is clearly not trying to support any of their claims but just want a chance to go after their neighbors, and its real apparent.→ More replies (1)3

Technically, it does mention in the deal that:
"reopening of the U.S. Consulate in Nuuk and the U.S. contributions to mutual scientific and educational cooperation and exchanges, minerals cooperation, cooperation on economic development and business promotion, and cultural and local partnerships together with Greenland;" -- As per the new agreement.
Although the new agreement also acknowledges Greenland's independence under "Article 21 of act. 473 of 2 June 2009 on Greenland Self-Government", how the agreement acknowledges international law and Greenland's national legal framework, as well as "Recognizing the need to protect the pristine environment of Greenland and reaffirming Article VI concerning Protection of the Environment in the 1991 Memorandum of Understanding, as well as the 2004 Joint Declaration" -- Also from the agreement.
Sorry for the word dump but I wanted to copypaste exactly what it said in the agreement, which can be found via a google search "US, Greenland and Denmark agreement" and can be found on both the Danish and US government websites.
Quick Edit: So no, the US can't just start drilling for oil as they wish, they still have to permits from Greenland and accept from the Danish government.

That could have been done several decades ago. But exploration by US companies always showed that it would be too expensive to extract the resources from a barren wilderness 1000s of km from the nearest major center of civilization. No roads or railways, no power grid anywhere near. Everything would have to be build from scratch. All personal and supplies have to be flown in, when the weather allows it.
The reason why no one exploited the natural resources of Greenland so far are not that the best deal maker of the world wasn't involved. The deals were already in place. It's just not profitable.
Maybe in a few decades when climate change made the polar region more accessible. But then the economy of the rest of the planet will be ruined, so likely no one left who could make the investment.
49
u/Donnicton 21h ago
Well now that Peter Thiel and his gaggle of billionaire buddies want Greenland to turn into a libertarian techbro feudalist hellscape AI throne (this is actually real), they can just have their technoserfs build out to where all of the rare earths are for nothing but good old fashioned slave labor and human lives. /s

Ah, who am I kidding, they'll never realise that, even as it's happening to them and around them. They'll go out like those 'COVID is a hoax" rightwing types, insisting it doesn't exist even as they're about to be put onto the ventilators to probably die.

Valery Legasov: Why? For the same reason our reactors do not have containment buildings around them, like those in the West. For the same reason we don't use properly enriched fuel in our cores. For the same reason we are the only nation that builds water-cooled, graphite-moderated reactors with a positive void coefficient.

u/Skak2000 12h ago
People in Denmark are laughing at him... 🤷♂️🤣
Only a single company has held a license for underground oil exploration, which they have had for many years. They are still missing several environmental approvals. Furthermore, they do not have permission to extract oil.
It looks like Trump has not read the agreement that he signed himself.
Danish politicians have chosen not to respond to the foolish exclusion that makes no sense.
5
u/diggidydangidy 7h ago
Well they shouldn't be laughing because this is dangerous. Trump doing something within an agreement means that he might follow some of the permissions. With him doing this outside of any agreement, means he will do whatever he wants, cause there's no permissions in the first place.
2
u/Skak2000 7h ago
The reason nobody is going for oil in Greenland for now is because there have been found nothing. The problem is also it is very isolated and the weather is extreme. It will be very expensive to get it up. If they find anything...

Yes, they WILL hold back and they do. People are laugh hard of him... 🤷♂️
There are rules and permission. A company was stop for doing it earlier this year. Because of lack of permissions.
What he is saying now is on to get some votes for the elections and to get the US people the impression that they "own" Greenland now because of the "deal".

Personally believe this whole Greenland thing is either to launch a 3 prong attack against Canada or control the Northwest Passage for trade when the ice melts (like the Panama canal just more lucrative) or they're going to take Greenland later as well as the rest of the western hemisphere as outlined in their NSS which you can currently look up right now. They got the US to agree to defend NATO and Greenland 'forever'. They owned the US in this agreement. However the most important part is the deal if not ratified and just like everything he's said this claim he just made is total bullshit. Why do you keep believing what this guy says? It's insane.
4
u/greywar777 22h ago
*I* do not believe a thing Trump says-and thats sort of my point. He is going to lie about the agreement, and twist it into "the us had to defend the natural resources by removing them".

I'm a little disappointed in the comments for treating this as a random Trumpism and not the orchestrated scheme that it is. See here from Fiona Hill's 2019 testimony on Russian plots:
This is, you know, March, April, into May, where we were having a standoff over Venezuela. And the Russians at this particular juncture were signaling very strongly that they wanted to somehow make some very strange swap arrangement between Venezuela and Ukraine. In other words, if we were going to exert some semblance of the Monroe Doctrine of, you know, Russia keeping out of our backyard, because this is after the Russians had sent in these hundred operatives essentially to, you know, basically secure the Venezuelan Government and, you know, to preempt what they were obviously taking to be some kind of U.S. military action, they were basically signaling: You know, you have your Monroe doctrine. You want us out of your backyard.
But Russia was making similar schemes on Greenland as they were making on Venezuela at the same time:
The faked letter as well as an accompanying text has circulated on major American social media like Reddit and Indybay for days now, according to Danish daily Politiken. With the heading "Greenland. How much does a trade with the devil cost.", the text appears to be an attachment to a post in which an Indybay user warns Greenland against making a trade-off with the devil, i.e. the USA, according to Politiken. The letter may at first hand appear to be genuine, as it is written on the letterhead of Greenland’s self-rule authority, is equipped with a case file number and appears to be signed by Greenland’s foreign minister Ane Lone Bagger. It is addressed to Republican US Senator Tom Cotton. Cotton played an important role in the time leading up to US President Trump’s offering to buy Greenland from Denmark last August.
Given what's happened in Venezuela since then it certainly looks to me that Trump has already agreed to some sort of Monroe Doctrine arrangement with Putin.
4
u/Important-Anywhere20 21h ago
Well, he didn’t get the memo that Greenland is EU and he just stabbed the EU and Ukraine hard in the back with his diesel deal with the devil, his long life love buddy Vlad. Greenland, Canada, EU all resources should not ever go to US now that he publicly sided with Putin buying his resources, and probably getting bribes as well. People of the US, please vote on 3rd of November. If you again will vote in favor of this complete incompetent idiot, it will be the last of it and the world will turn its back.

I thought seismic in Alberta was fucking horrible, like an actual stint I was doing in hell to be able to buy a house quickly after I learned that birth control pills are not a 100% sure thing at all.
I bet it would seem like a never ending party compared to Greenland.
Although I don't know the topography at all, maybe they don't have to carry as much by hand. But still, the weather and isolation, I bet it's terrible.
I bet the cumulative exposure pay is always in effect though!
