Recommendation Sapphic characters over 50

This week’s Sapphic Book Bingo category features books with sapphic main characters over 50.

In many sapphic books (and books in general), the characters are in their 20s and 30s, but sapphic joy and love doesn’t have an age limit, so I made "characters over 50" one of the categories in this year's reading challenge.

You'll find a few book recommendations on my website:

I've stuck with fiction my whole life. The only non fiction I've read are Chicken Soup for the Soul and 7 Best Things Smart Teens Do. are latter was nice because I'm interested in psychology. I want to try getting into lesbian non fiction.

Can you think of any lesbian romance books about where one or more of the characters has an unusual job? Such as a professional cuddler or a dildo factory manager?

Seeking Recs Kind of curious about age gap romances.

I read the first book in the series that was basically The Devil Wears Prada’s Miranda and Andy (with changes of course). I enjoyed it way more than I thought and will eventually finish the second book.

I don’t read fantasy but am open to contemporary romance. Smut is ok and welcome.

What's That Book? PopstarXcomposer/landscaper (more details in body) Help please!

Can anyone help me identify this book and/or author? As you can see I remember many details but not the ones I need to look it up! Driving me insane!

What I remember:

One MC is pop star who after a live-streamed failed proposal runs away to her beach house. She is famous but misses her roots and the freedoms of being less well known (like not having to do things only for sales). Burnt out.

The other MC is living at home after mental health issues caused her to drop out of college for musical composition. Composing is still sometimes triggering for her. Parents worry.

Her mom owns a landscaping company and she starts working there. She has an autistic brother who is also musical. When walking in the beach with her brother he ends up wondering into the pop star’s house and starts playing her piano. That’s how they meet.

Then the pop-star hires the mom’s landscaping
company to work at her house. Composer is assigned to her and her brother even helps with the tile pattern of the walkway. The MCs end up making music and an album together.

The composer’s family is super loving and even invites pop-star to the large family gathering in the park (includes a bonfire with singing around it).

The composer is named after her famous grandfather (or some other older relative) who was also a composer.

Any hint would be appreciated! Thanks!

12 Spooky books, by humans, no Ai. Stack those TBRs with human goodness this woman loving Halloween season <3

Thank you Natalie Bergman for bringing together this fantastic event to lead us not only into Sapphic September but into Spooky Season as well!

*kelpy's Oct post :) I am one of the highlighted books, but this was a very cool event Natalie put on to help give dark Sapphic books more visibility. If you all don't know she won a Goldie Award this year for her book! My debut was a runner up.

Seeking Recs Are there any sapphic books that are also educational?

Can you think of any books that have lesbians making out and dating and doing the usual sapphic stuff, but are also surprisingly educational? Like, not only do you get lesbians, you also learn something about math and science or whatever (but not exclusively and science).

Seeking Recs Books that feel like an unofficial sequel to But I'm A Cheerleader?

Post image
70 Upvotes

"Megan (Natasha Lyonne) considers herself a typical American girl. She excels in school and cheerleading, and she has a handsome football-playing boyfriend, even though she isn't that crazy about him. So she's stunned when her parents decide she's gay and send her to True Directions, a boot camp meant to alter her sexual orientation. While there, Megan meets a rebellious and unashamed teen lesbian, Graham (Clea DuVall). Though Megan still feels confused, she starts to have feelings for Graham." - Google

Can you think of any books that feel like what could've happened to Megan after she is disowned by her parents and runs away with her new girlfriend Graham? Would her parents take her back? Does she go back to her old high school? What would her old friends think? Would they ever consider apologizing? I didn't think about this until now, but I would also accept book recommendations that feel like what could've happened if Megan never got sent to conversion therapy.

Sales and Deals 1.99 US kindle {Summer Official by Rebekah Weatherspoon}

Amazon US

Opposites attract in this contemporary, sweet, sapphic romance about two girls who reluctantly come together for a summer challenge.

Heaven and Saylor could not be more different. Saylor is bubbly, popular, athletic, and always partnered up. Heaven is grumpy and artistic, prefers her skateboard to people, and has never dated anyone. So no one would believe they’d agree to spend the entire summer together.

Yet, that’s exactly what happened. When Saylor Ford breaks her arm at Basketball camp, distracted by her mom’s internet fame discussing Saylor’s newfound sexuality, she becomes determined not to spend the summer stuck at home with the woman. Her one saving grace is a girl she’s pretty sure can’t stand her but that she finds absolutely irresistible. Heaven Goo-Campbell. Thankfully, Heaven is willing to let Saylor in on her Summer Bingo challenge, but for a price. Saylor has to help Heaven establish a social media page showcasing her art for her future career as a tattoo artist.

They didn’t plan on the intimacy of spending each day together and the deepening feelings that followed. Soon, they become something more than a shared project. But can the girls even have a future together when Saylor is wary of bringing their relationship out into the light—too afraid that her mom’s status as a popular influencer will give Saylor and timid Heaven more attention than they can handle?

Post image
28 Upvotes

I'm hosting a weekly giveaway of a sapphic book, and this week, fellow author Sage L Mattison is generously giving away an ebook copy of her high-heat, low-angst sapphic fantasy romance "Tied up in Her Demon Goddess."

Here's what the book is about:

In the Crimson Reaches, a fenceline dispute between a demon single mother and a demon/ogre wrangler will change their lives forever…

Jo wants to build a fence on a shared property line with her neighbor Perri. Perri wants to spend more time with Jo. When Perri impulsively decides that refusing Jo’s request is the best way to get Jo’s attention, the pair find there’s more to the tension simmering between them than the dispute over a fenceline.

Enter the giveaway on my website: https://jae-fiction.com/giveaway-of-the-week/

Seeking Recs Are there any books that are combinations of two or more pre-existing stories?

Are there any books that are combinations of two or more pre-existing stories? You know like for example Romeo and Juliet + Cinderella to make Romeo and Cinderella (this is a made-up example, I don't know if it actually exists, it doesn't exclusively have to be this). And it has to be explicitly stated or made clear that the story is a fusion of two or more pre-existing stories, I'm not looking for books that "kinda feel like X meets Y", cause a lot of stories could be described as "blank meets blank", I'd prefer it if the author made it clear that the story they wrote is a combination of X, Y, and Z.

Recommendation Loved and Lost (erotic, heartwarming, time-travel) an Oldie but Goldie

Why, oh, why did I reread this book? It was fantastic, but it is clear there was meant to be a sequel as you are left wondering at the end what happens. I also cried twice about this book on my first read. It is very emotional and there is a lot of angst. This was my first read from Stephanie Kusiak and was fantastic. This book is one of my top favorites, and that’s saying something considering I have read over 350 lesbian books.

I have nothing but positive reviews about this. It was hot and emotional and nuanced with the tag being Time-Travel. I was unsure what would be going on after looking at the blurb, but you follow Rachel and Blake through their up and down relationship. It was beautifully detailed and descriptive about even the smallest of things. It is quite lengthy and probably a bit repetitive, but I flew through this book and it didn’t even feel like 450 pages. This book is amazing and beyond unique. I wish there were more lesbian time travel novels.

CW: M/F sex scene (not too explicit, but it is on-page)
TW: Bullying

If you can deal with an ambiguous ending, tearjerkers, and enjoy erotica, this book is right up your alley. I recommend it to anyone.

P.S. I wish there was an AudioBook for this novel!
➢Happy reading!

Discussion The Lesbrary is Looking for More Reviewers!

Do you love reading queer women books? Feel like talking about them at least once a month? Want to be buried in an insurmountable pile of free bi & lesbian ebooks? Join the Lesbrary!

I am looking for more reviewers at the Lesbrary! You just have to commit to submitting a review, list, or essay about sapphic books once a month. In return, you get forwarded all of the sapphic ebooks sent to us for possible review. You also get access to the Lesbrary Edelweiss and Netgalley accounts, where you can request not-yet-released queer titles.

I'm looking particularly for more reviewers of color, disabled reviewers, and trans reviewers, but anyone who regularly reads bi & lesbian books is welcome!

If you’re interested in joining the Lesbrary, send me an email at danikaellis at gmail with an example of a book review you've written that's at least 350 words long. (It doesn't have to have been published/posted anywhere before.) Applications without a book review example will not be considered.

We’d love to have you on board!
