October 2026 Mega-Thread

October is here! Here are this month's questions:

Do you have favorite Halloween themed scent? Do you have a piece of gear that you think fits the season? What is it?

Is there a scent that reminds you of a specific fall memory?

Any favorite fall-time activities you enjoy? Apple picking? Pumpkin carving? Leaf crunching?

Anyone have any good pumpkin-based or pumpkin adjacent recipes?

Do you have a favorite film/game/book you like to revisit this time of year?

Any new items you're looking to pick up now that the Fall season is in full swing?

Do you have any favorite fall-time beverages? Spiced Cider? Pumpkin Spice Lattes? Feel free to share!

New wetshaver? This is the perfect place to ask questions.

New brushes: Unbleached Zenith boars. 27x64 and 27x56.

The wood handle is absolutely gorgeous and the white plastic looks like the Omega 49, but it looks nicer and feels higher quality.

SOTD Thursday morning shave

Post image

24 hour stubble this morning, and not a single nick or cut. The Game Changer .84 seems to work awesome on 24 hour stubble. The razor head design makes it efficient without being overly aggressive on the blade feel. Gillette Wilkie blade, Speick cream and splash makes it well rounded. This razor is a lifetime keeper for me.

SOTD Ti Thursday

Henson Ti+, RK blade, Yaqi tuxedo 24mm brush, zingari man the wanderer soap, Floid Splash.

I had 2.5 days of growth to mow down this morning and grabbed the nearest blades, RK, I only managed to shave half of my right side of my cheek before swapping it for the next in my box of tricks - the Personna Platinum. The difference was staggering! It sliced through my cactus bristles with no problem what so ever.

In the end I had a nice two pass shave, and a little touch up under my nose and jawline, finished off with a nice splash of Floid.

Have a good one and great shaves to you all. 🪒

The Fatboy with a Nacet blade on its third use today.

Unfortunately, I noticed some clear tugging and a loss of sharpness. The more difficult areas of my face didn’t go as smoothly as usual, and I ended up with a few small nicks after going over them several times.

I think one or two shaves may be the sweet spot for me with the Nacet. Perhaps it’s time to go back to the one-and-done approach. 😂

The Semogue SOC boar brush is coming along nicely. It builds a thick lather with very little effort, and the bristles have softened enough for comfortable face lathering.

Martin de Candre Vetiver and Pitralon Classic made for a lovely, traditional combination.

Have a good shave!

Razor: Gillette spiral Tech from Mexico/south America

Blade: Gillette permasharp

Brush: Razorock plissoft

Soap: Stirling electric sheep in soap stick container

Splash: Pinaud Clubman in avon shaving brush bottle

Post balm: Stirling unscented

EDT: Stirling Spice(not pictured)

Morning everyone, on vacation this week so I only have a small amount of gear with me.

3 passes as normal and I'm suprised everything went smooth and got a close shave despite not having a mirror that extends from the wall, I'm too accustomed to my mirror set up at home🤣

Down here in Nebraska for a week visiting some family, still wanted to have some of my den with me.

Happy Thursday folks and as always, have a good day and great shaves 😎

My first safety razor

It's a bit big and clunky and I still have to fall back to the name that shall not be named for specific spots, but overall it's nice to always have a fresh and sharp shave!

Wrapping up my first week with the Fatip, and I'm learning its angles. After an uncomfortable shave on Tuesday, I concentrated on finding and sticking to the right angles today and had a much better shave.

I hope you all have a great day!

Razor: Gillette Rocket Flaretip

Blade: Gillette 365

Brush: Muhle Classic

Lather: Acca Kappa 1869

Aftershave: Proraso White

Last shave on the road. The scent of this lather is amazing, reminds me of December. This razor is great, I generally like longer handles but this works for me.

October 15, 2026

Overall Rating: ★★★★★ (Epic Shave!)

Smoothness: ★★★★★ (BBS Perfection)

Irritation: ★☆☆☆☆ (Zero Burn)

Time of Day: Morning ☀️

Blade Uses: 1

Passes: 2

Razor Setting: 5

Razor: Merkur Futur Adjustable

Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (IN)

Soap: Declaration Grooming Chatillon Lux B³

Shaving Bowl: Made it myself Earthy Bowl

Brush: Merkur Futur Silvertip

Pre-Shave: Noble Cleanse Beard Wash

Aftershave: Declaration Grooming B³

Notes: Last ThursB³ay

I used up the last of the aftershave today. There are probably 20 more shaves left in the soap. This was a pleasant take on bay rum, with blackberry taking equal billing in the scent. Performance was always great and today was no exception.

Tonight’s shave

Tonight I used a new gold piece I recently acquired.

Razor: A 1962 H2 Gillette Slim Aristocrat Adjustable
Blade: Muhle
Brush: Simpsons 59 Best Badger
Shaving cream: T&H Trafalgar
Aftershave: Captain’s Choice 45th Parallel

Mostly I’ve been wanting to add some gold razors. Something about shaving with them just adds to the experience being luxurious. I know it’s meaningless for the actual shave, but I’ve decided to make this nightly ritual a luxurious mental decompression and I’ve found that gold razors contribute to it being a better experience to me.

But beyond that, I’ve also quickly become a fan of the Aristocrat line and was interested in adding this piece.

The Trafalgar cream…I don’t know why I use anything other than this brand’s shaving creams. Lots of good products out there but I don’t think anything tops T&H. And the fragrance of this one just nailed it for me tonight. Extremely pleasant.

My first time with cherry aftershave, and I went this route because I thought it went so nicely with the Trafalgar shaving cream. Very pleasant with a nice burn.

Not shaving again for several days, as I’m leaving town. I don’t shave when away from home for a week or less. But it makes the shave when I get home that much better.

Question Is it true the updated Merkur 34C has no blade overhang?

Hey everyone,
I heard Merkur recently updated the 34C head design to fully cover the blade sides.
Can anyone who bought one recently confirm if this is true?
Thanks!

Question Bowl too small for the soap

New to using a shaving brush and bowl. The diameter of the soap is larger than the bowl, should I cut bar up in pie shape so I can fit a piece into bowl?

Question Shaving Brush for beginner

I am having a hard time choosing a shaving brush. I have been applying shaving cream using my hands for almost a decade. I am getting tired of it because I use both hands (right for right part of my face, etc) and it takes time to wash it while the shaving cream on my face dries out.

I learned there are synthetic brush and natural hair brush. Price ranges from 8 USD to 150 USD.

For a beginner (not really beginner in shaving but definitely beginner in safety razor handling), what do you recommend? What material / what brand ?

Does price even matter?

Thanks!

SOTD Super slim twist/sweet orange

Post image
• Upvotes

2 pass (WTG/XTG) shave this morning with the youngest of my collection - the 1979 slim twist, my last Derby Premium, La Barbiera orange soap, Men-ü boar brush, Kent mug and Old Spice aftershave.

Simple, quick and clean one today after last night's close one, the twist is a very comfortable mild razor never any dramas with this one.

The soap isn't great but it smells good and a bargain at around £3

Good shaves everyone

Pre-Shave - Razor Emporium Pre-Shave Soap

Soap/Splash - Tobacco Road by Ariana & Evans

Razor - Aylsworth Apex-AL (First use)

Blade - Personna Platinum

Brush - AKA BrushWorkx "Blue Lagoon"

Lather Bowl - Rodak Ceramics

Post Save - Alum block, Thayer's Face toner, Soap Palooza Balm

Got almost BBS with 3 passes going WTG and XTG. I'm getting better at not applying too much pressure. SO this shave had minimal irritation. I will always have some due to my very sensitive skin. I'm very happy with the Apex. It's similar to my Henson so there's not much learning curve. I think this was a very successful shave. Definitely gettin better at it.

I absolutely love the Fougère even though I haven't even shaved with it yet. Very green and fern-forward. Agrumes smells like lemon candy to me. Sweet and pleasant, but it didn't exactly blow my mind. Rose is a surprisingly strong scent and I like it better than I expected, since I'm not a huge fan of the fragrance generally, but tried it out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised. The vetiver is grassy and nothing like the super earthy Dirtyver from Declaration Grooming (the only other vetiver scent I've tried). I like this one too, and might end up getting 50gm versions of Vetiver and Absinthe. (I've already tried Absinthe and its anise, fennel, and minty notes have really grown on me.)
