Discussion Anything less than Skubal or King is an absolute failure
The Sox have a real chance at being competitive next year and the following years. They had one of the top offenses. They need PITCHING. Specifically starting pitching. The.payroll is dirt low. They NEED to go out there and get one of these dudes. No excuses to not sign them. We have to payroll to do it.
Edit: I see the Sox fans here are just going to let Jerry off the hook for not spending on big named free agents. They're resigned to the fact that he won't do it and are fine with it. nice.

He wants to get paid. Skubal’s going to whoever pays him the most. Now I don’t think that will be the Sox but I’m not nearly as pessimistic about our owner’s willingness to spend this offseason because historically he has done so when the team was competitive, he just never spent well

Neither is happening man. Going in with this mindset is setting you up for disappointment

You must be new here. Let me help you understand our ownership group. Andrew bennitendi is the most expensive player in the HISTORY of the Sox. They have never given anyone 100 million. Skubal and king will get more then that. We will be outbid, but get ready to be sold a seat at the table. Tldr we ain't gonna pay skubal/king what they will get from anyone else.

You think the White Sox of Chicago, Illinois in the United States of America on this here planet of Earth are going to outbid the rest of the league for Tarik Skubal?
Wanting more is great. Expecting more to this extent is only setting yourself up for disappointment and frustration. At best, they hang in til the latter part of the bidding and maybe Skubal uses them to get the Dodgers to kick in another 10-20 mil but even that feels exceedingly far fetched.

Sure they can blow the wad on like one guy, but wouldn't you rather there be more of an across-the-board improvement?

Yeah, that doesn't bother me. He was awesome for us, and for the 5 innings he will pitch before he's gassed, he will be awesome for any team. But he will want the biggest contract like fucking ever, so have fun with that on like year 6 of a 10yr when something has gone horribly wrong.

Well, guess teams should never sign Cy Young/MVP players. What happens if something goes wrong with them? Might as well just not sign them.
Jerry, is that you undercover?

Resigned to the fact? Sure. Fine with it? Hell no. But, what can we do about it? You think he'll change the way he does business because some fans on Reddit are mad? He's 90 years old, he's not changing. Now, when Ishbia takes over and needs big names to draw attendance to his new ballpark and real estate development, then we'll have a shot.

I’m a bit annoyed that Peralta is playing so well when it matters cuz I always imagined him a realistic low-risk, high-upside guy after his stint with the Mets

Yeah, Jerry only spends moneys on short term reliever contracts or past their prime vets and he doesn't care if it upsets you.
If there is even a season next year the best you can expect is something along the lines of like Austin Hedges and a closer.

Hasn’t Skubal already said he’s keeping open the possibility of going back to Detroit?
