Hey all.
This is a reminder of our Rule 2 - No trading, buying, or selling alcohol. Comments and posts soliciting alcohol sales and trades will be removed. This goes against the content policy, as well as may break laws within your country of residence.
Lately we have seen an increase in people trying to create or participate in a secondary market - this is against the Content Policy and can very well result in not only a ban from /r/whiskey, but also may see you removed from Reddit permanently by Reddit Admins (should you continue to disregard the Content Policy.)
The simple explanation is this:
Due to regulations and laws concerning Alcohol in many different countries, it may be illegal (simply by law, or taxation law) to trade/barter or resell alcohol products. As Reddit engages communities around the world, facilitating any of these transactions could open Reddit up to various legal consequences. Therefore Reddit must take every available avenue to remove and discourage these transactions within the use of their services.
As a subbreddit dealing with the subject of alcohol products, we are under scrutiny with the actions our communities take, and we must fully participate in Reddit attempt to control and remove content that breeches the Content Policy. If at any point it may appear that we are lacking as a community to stem the flow of this content - simply put; our subreddit will be removed from Reddit.
Please do not be under the impression that any action that you use on Reddit is entirely private - posts, comment, messages and chatroom logs are available to the Reddit admins at anytime and they will investigate any and all leads that suggest people are breaking the Content Policy and in some extreme cases, may take action either legal or federal (and by federal, i mean 'call the cops') depending on their obligations as a business.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
TL:DR - Reddit is not facebook marketplace, you will get banned, you might even get prosecuted.
Edit: I just wanted to add some insight our rule 3. "No requests for dating or valuing an unusual or old bottle of whiskey....", we discourage valuation of whiskey as it has the strong potential to turn into a bidding system, whether public or "private". While we don't suspect every account that seeks valuation to want to participate in a secondary market, the avenue for abuse of these types of posts in regards to our efforts to remove trade/barter or reselling is simple too high to carry the risk of allowing this kind of content within the subbreddit. Since we do not have to tools to monitor "private" messaging or "private chats" of this nature - it would fall to the Admins to investigate these actions and garner an amount of admins attention to our subreddit that we wish to avoid. We're good boys/gals, doing good things... nothing to see here Admins. 🤞

Nice pick ups today, had at least 5 left of each of these bottles when I left too. Passed on Elmer T Lee, Weller 107, and some other bottles that used to be hard to find

Really enjoying the single barrel select. Surprisingly this is my first Jack purchase of any kind. Finding it really agreeable. Usually prefer it neat but decided to make a classic.

Friend of the family gifted this 1951 Scotch whiskey. From what I can find online, this is a ‘ 51 but some said ‘ 50 and even a ‘ 49. I gave it to my Pops, and he started laughing and said, “Wow, whiskey older than me.” He was born in 1955 so I just wanted to share this with you. Cheers 🥃

Just bought the new post 2024 version of this and... Is it just me or it pales in comparison to the old non chill filtered or even the transition phase before 2024.
Same on the nose but mild on the palate, lost all its complexity and finishing is poor.
Just me??

So last month I'm at Louisville Rickhouse with the MoCo Bourbon Club doing a barrel pick.
If you've never done one, it's not what you'd expect. You don't just point at a barrel, and they're not always preselected either (sometimes they are). They narrow it down to a few targets, you taste them side by side, and getting everyone to agree can take forever, which is great.
Then the crew agreed and the etching was the cherry on top. This one's ours. Every bottle from that barrel is the juice we picked that day, which still feels a little wild to me. The flavor can shift a little depending on when it's bottled and other factors, but hopefully not much.
Anyway, if your crew ever gets the chance to do one, do it. Drink water frequently, trust me, it will help.

Mashbill- 51 corn, 45 wheat, 4 malted barley

Cooked pear slices drenched in cinnamon, banana pudding, rootbeer float, apple fritter doughnut, chai tea, ginger. This one's evidence that MGP barrels have serious potential. When it's good it's good. Worth the price of admission.

12 Kanosuke whiskeys in all and some amazing food. Wife hit it out of the park with this bday dinner.
My favourites were the Nouveau Beginnings Sherry cask and the Ghost series 23c umeshu cask.
Delicious all round really. 🥃

I will be visiting ireland soon what is everyone's suggestions on what to search for and bring home?
I have tried a few in the past like red breast, bushmills, and a few others. I am looking for suggestions on things I wouldn't normally be able to find in the states. If I can get it here why bother getting it there.
I have seen good reviews of method and madness single grain. Maybe that? I will likely bring back a few bottles let's here everyone's preferences.
Thanks.

Snagged this on a whim today. 101 proof. Really enjoyed the first pour! Good cinnamon notes. Black tea type flavors on the finish. Great on the nose! Pleased with the pick up for sure! Worth a snag if you like the Willett thing.

I cleaned off the last 6 bottles Costco had on the shelf. They were on clearance due to my Costco no longer stocking them! I couldn't NOT buy the rest of them as I really enjoy this bottle! I'll probably give a few to family and keep a few for myself! Super stoked!

Tried this bottle of Canadian Whiskey. It’s a great budget bottle with a nice taste. The oak is pleasant with hints of pepper n maple.

I’m still not 100% on blind boxes for my whisky but these two don’t look bad.

I never see ANY Weller where I live. There's one place near me that might have some, but they're consistently 15-20% higher than anywhere else around here, so I never even go in there. It's a long way to the full rainbow and I'm sure I'll polish this off before finding any of the others, but that won't stop the hunt!
