serious question though, how did vibe coding flip from a pejorative term to something to gloat about in like a month? it started out as a way to denounce low effort AI coding full of bugs and it turned into some quirky marketing bandwagon phrase seemingly overnight
No, it's still considered a bad thing by everyone in an enterprise setting. It's only impressive when it's your buddy with limited coding knowledge putting together something cool they couldn't have made alone. Even then it's still treated like, "yeah, I vibe coded it, but it's still pretty cool right?" I have no clue why Epic would brag about this.
As a professional programmer, this is the literal opposite of everything I've seen. Software engineers do not respect vibe coders, as they don't understand any of the fundamentals, and complain when the end product is an unmaintainable mess.
The entirety of enterprise software is written by AI now. I shit you not: nearly every single line of code. Your statement was true 1 to 1.5 years ago. Not anymore. Vibe coding is mandatory nowadays, more or less.
Vibe coding and "written by AI" are two different things. I don't vibe code much but >90% of my code is written by AI these days. The difference is that I'm still responsible for every line, and am reviewing it myself thoroughly, followed by two of my teammates in the PR before it gets accepted.
The only vibe coding I've done is for internal tools that I didn't care about, plus a couple of prototype proof of concepts to help with design. People who brag about vibe coding are doing something fundamentally different to standard coding...it seems like the industry is moving in that direction of course. I'm just surprised that any standard of quality whatsoever can be maintained there, nothing that I vibe code is anything close to high enough quality to show to a customer.
It's not the answer that people want to hear but AI code has become way too useful over the last year to the point where my mate in web development says he has barely written a line of code in months. He has been able to multiply his output but feels the creativity is gone and his soul has been sucked because he spends all day delegating tasks to a robot.

OOOOOH, I know, that is peak indeed. I watched it in Russian, I loved watching A&O movies as a kid, it was on the STS chanel almost every few months. These movies seem to be very popular in Eastern Europe
I got crazy whiplash when I heard Shrek's voice in the original, I'm sorry but Michael Myers sounds just horrible. Russian voice for Shrek is peak, it's like it was made for him
