I have seen people use GitHub for anything else other than a code sharing site from an EXE dump to a fucking mod repository.

Looking at you, Nuclear Option mod community.

The fact that you can find software there, doesn't change that is a tool made by developers for developers, if anything, you can find software there because is the more convenient place to do so, what else do you want, the program on goddamn mediafire? it's pretty dumb to try and host your things on other platforms when github does it for free and it keeps in order all the releases, it's not a store or nothing related, and the developer has no obligation to submit their program to some store like Steam, app store, play store, etc etc

I think that's it's also just fair to at least explain that, a bunch of people don't know Github is mainly a developer hub first and optionally a software store, so they go in and find it confusing, i spent one year to get accostumed with it and know how to navigate in it, but a lot of people are not that sharp, so i understand the frustration, it's a place that should be available for both

I think the argument of 'Github is a tool for developers' Is fine but flawed. I personally have no issue with Github, I think it's a GREAT tool for developers. The issue is the developers using Github as their one stop shop for everything.

OP is right, github is not a platform specifically for developers its also where the developers upload their shit and it is on them to make the installation process as easy as possible, that means a clear and easy to find download button and an exe or .zip

You'd be lucky to get even this in the future.

Just yesterday, I found a repo which had an instructions.md file with "Please ask your AI agent to install". Soon, no one will know what, where and how things are happening in their own devices. Just terrifying!
