which is funny because it would take way longer to come back lmao. especially if you have a base with supplies to recraft tools and armor.

it's true but for many people they get a renewed sense of progression and may try different things or change where they would build a base in a new world, instead of grinding for the sake of getting back where you were, even if it could be thinked as doing the same thing
If you have spent a week grinding and getting into all kinds of danger, finally get the full kit and then.. die... Grinding it back has has no reward, you are not getting anything better but you are now grinding to get back to a point where you can start doing what you wanted to do in the first place.
Starting over has tons of rewards and you feel the progression. It is more fun to grind a week to get that full set again than to grind a day to get back where you were before grinding started..
You also start to dislike the world itself, your starter base looked awful, you made mistakes while building it that haunt you still, you know often more so you could do it better.. so you do that rather than just grind gear back.
Nah, you grind iron gear back fast, even if you had some diamond tools it not that big of a loss but once you lose full kit, all of the enchantments you worked so hard for, that is when starting a new world becomes more fun... when you got to grind to get back to where you were there is no real sense of accomplishments in it, it is just a grind without a reward. But early game.... "you got a new recipe" every few minutes...
HC punishes you in the beginning too, when you are most likely to die... you lose the world and don't have an option to start again. Even in the early game you usually have some random resources, there is the old kit in the chest somewhere, you got food, fuel, wood, stone, maybe even few iron ingots...
meanwhile me using keep inventory so I don't have to grind for hours all over again just to get my diamond armour/enchants back or spend an ungodly amount of time just walking to get out of a cave or to get back from a long expedition
besides most the time I get back to my stuff without it on its despawned or there's like 5 skeletons camping it because having mobs spawn constantly as long as its dark is good game design
I would rather not waste time backtracking/grinding to get stuff back when I could be building, progressing, farming, fishing ect

Best argument against people who hate on keep inventory is a question what do they do with the world after dying
