For things you’d like dispensed.

I was thinking this would be great for plastic grocery bags.

That’s what my mother in law uses one for. It came from her mother, who used it the same way before her death

Nobody I meet has ever seen this show but I recommend it to everyone!

u/loqi0238 5h ago
You cant watch it anywhere. One of the directors or actors used to have all of them free on their web page, but theyre gone now, unfortunately.
Dreamcorp LLC was my favorite fever dream, right in front of Frankenhole and Xavier: Renegade Angel.

I don't know if you know this or not, but you can dispense your weed from there.

They're for the long matches you use to light the fireplace. Ours hung next to the hearth. The strike box would be in the window on the bottom.

looks like the old school match box holders but home made.

u/Individual-Copy9425 5h ago
My grandparents’ farmhouse had a homemade one on the wall by the fireplace (for those long safety matches)
2
u/Itchy-Apartment-Flea 5h ago
I believe this is correct. I don't recall where but I have saw another one in real life almost identical to this photo and it was indeed used for the long matches.

It was hung by the fireplace and held long matches to light the fire.

u/Justin429 5h ago
My great grandparents had one almost exactly like this when I was a kid back in the 80's. We used to snatch a few matches and play with them.

I was going to say a plastic bag holder?
18
u/beardedsilverfox 5h ago
I think it’s this. Stuff plastic bags in the top and pull them out the bottom
3
u/Attack_kitteh 5h ago
I would say the same too, but the opening looks maybe 3” max? You’d be able to fit a whole five bags in there.
2
u/beardedsilverfox 5h ago
They smash really small. My parents fabric version is bigger for sure. But this would still probably hold like 30

u/Organic-Egg-9900 4h ago
I once used to use a large thick tube sock in the same manner. I cut a slit near the top to hang it inside cupboard, filled it with plastic grocery bags and cut a slit at the bottom to pull a bag out as needed. It actually worked quite well.
1
u/Icy-Cow9695 5h ago
I think it's a combination of both. I think they were probably originally for the matchbook or match thing people are talking about but I bet a lot got reurposed into bag holders because we had one very similar with sacks from grocery stores that are largely outlawed now...

Grocery sack dispenser?

u/philpalmer2 5h ago
That’s what I think as well. I have a plastic one just inside the cellar door. It’s top loading with a slot at the bottom to pull out the shopping bag.

u/Intelligent-Block457 5h ago
I had a similar one for matches. It had a little catch on the bottom so they wouldn't all fall out.
2
u/OneWheelWilly 5h ago
Its this, for fireplace matches. You place the whole box inside and the little cutout in the side is for the strike part of box.

I don't know what it's actually made for but my grandma had one and we shoved plastic grocery bags in it. Produce bags and grocery bags actually

My grandma used one of those to store her plastic grocery sacks in for reuse. It’s a multipurpose utility though.

My grandma definitely had one.
I can't ask her cause she's gone, but I think she treated it like art because it was kind of between the kitchen and the living room. I'm assuming the generation before her had a pointed reason for it. I'm gonna guess like other people said that it's for match sticks to light the old timey stove before cookin' some flapjacks.

It’s for plastic grocery bags. You stuff them into the top and pull one out the bottom when you need one.

My parents had one of these by the fireplace which held super long matches. I have no idea if that was the intended use. It had no cutout at the bottom however.
EDIT: that’s what it is. I guess the wood is flexible enough that they can tolerate bending them a bit as you pull from the bottom. https://www.etsy.com/listing/4458290866/vintage-wood-long-match-stick-holder

Incense box? Not sure if what you put in the larger lid comes out the bottom. Or if it can hold incense cones in the small square opening

I was figuring it looks the right dimensions to fit an opened sleeve of saltines. Have yourself a little saltine dispenser.

Uma dúvida você comprou mesmo sem saber o que é? Ou você imaginou alguma serventia?

u/StacieAce7 4h ago
My partner wanted it for decor and I was curious what it was and couldn't find a definite answer on google. He's gonna use it to store old match books.

👍 Eu aqui sem saber o que era e estava procurando uma serventia que justificasse minha compra 😂

For plastic grocery bags. Stuff from the top, dispense from the bottom. My great grandmother had one back in the 80-‘90s

u/Happy_Discipline_481 4h ago
It's too hold old wooden matches bro and it's made of oak which is the strongest longest lasting wood they could of created this with nice how much did you pay?
1
u/StacieAce7 4h ago
It was like 2 bucks! I got it to match a wooden bag dispenser. Do you put a match box in the bottom with the striker facing out? Idk why I'm confused about the bottom cut out part.

Plastic bag holder/dispenser. Put bags in at top. Pull a bag out from bottom when needed.

for strike anywhere matches - box slides into the top and they self dispense - for an old gas stove

We had something similar we’d put plastic grocery bags in the top and pull out the bottom for small wastebaskets.

Not sure how the hole in the side fits in, but you could use it for long fireplace matches
1
u/Icy_Ad5295 1h ago
I think its a bag dispenser. My grandmother had on and she used it that way. She just kept stuffing them through until they popped out the other side. Now that I writing this, i dont think she was using this right.

It looks like a grocery bag store I had growing up. You jam the plastic grocery bags in the top, and pull them out the bottom hole.

Portable toilet for turds only. Once it’s full, just slide the back up and empty it.

Looks like some folksy trash my mother would have put up as a place to hold and dispense reused plastic grocery bags. Stuff em in the top and pull out one at a time from the bottom opening
