New, what is it? Found in Attic.
Partner sent me a pic of something she spotted in the attic. It's roughly 5 inches.
Initial thoughts were it was an old piece of rope or wood or....
We live in Ireland. General City Area. Wildlife -pretty rare.
I have no other context.

I concur, looks like poop from a butt. Who's butt is yet to be determined but I'd imagine an animal,

What is the size of the biggest opening to get into your attic? Not including the hatch.

Looks like racoon poo. They usually use a communal area to do the doo, but it's not unheard of.

Racoon poop; how do I know ? Roscoe Morrison's mom rescued a baby and raised her to adulthood ,and she got very fat and had huge poops! ( The Racoon ,not Roscoe's mom : Roscoe's mom was *wet dream milf material! )

I don’t know what it is, but I really don’t think it’s poop. The pattern on it is way too consistent for something that came from a bowel.

Animal dung. Somewhat fresh, as it hasn't dessicated completely. Stuff has been moved around up there too, otherwise the loose vapor barrier/plastic bag wouldn't be covering the top of it. Perhaps the partner moved stuff around while she was up there.
In any case, there's bound to be an open/accessible hole in the form of a scuttle hole, an open access panel, or some other outside-facing entry large enough to allow in some kind of mustelid (I assume; this is way too large for a rat/mouse).
Will probably want to inspect the entire outside of your residence for possible entry points. Up high, as well as down low. The layout/design and methods of construction of your home will determine the most likely locations of entry.
