Wegman’s bakery is wildly overpriced and aggressively mediocre

I know the prices of all prepared foods there have become insane but the price gouging of the baked goods is next level. There are often special sale prices running on a big “family pack” of certain medium sized cookies so you can get a lot of those for $7.99 but their cookies are way too mediocre (dry, flavorless and sorta hard but not in a crispy way) for me to personally want that many. Most cookies are sold in various smaller sized pack options, and they’re ridiculously overpriced. I saw their chocolate cookies, for example, sold as pairs in baggies, for $6.99. They’re about medium to slightly large but their texture looks flat and the cookies look dry. They want $7 for 2 cookies that look so bad I’d only eat one for free or if my craving is so desperate. Needless to say I always leave without a single cookie, unless I get a 5 pack of small GF cookies for, let’s say, $6.99 because that’s reasonably priced especially for a specialty item and my dad is GF. (Speaking of those cookies I think they’re $7.99 now which I’m somewhat less amenable to considering cranberry oatmeal GF cookies are foolproof to make and ingredients are cheap.)

Meanwhile at ShopRite I can always get better cookies at very reasonable prices. My favorite are the walnut chocolate chip which are smaller and sold in small-ish packs for about $1 per cookie. The macadamia white chocolate pecan are good too (same price). My town’s ShopRite doesn’t sell those so I only get them whenever I food shop with my mom, but this time I decided to get this dozen-pack of chocolate chip cookies since they’re only $5.99, look better than Wegmans’ and cost 50 cents per cookie rather than $3.50 per cookie. They’re not my favorite cookie, or even favorite chocolate chip cookie, but I know they’ll be satisfactory and Wegmans outraged me so much that I want to support ShopRite’s baked goods for being reasonable toward us consumers unlike its (once) competitor, Wegmans, just to spite Wegmans.

I could get 2-3 (notoriously expensive) Pignoli cookies from a small business bakery for the price Wegmans is trying to sell their pair of chocolate chip cookies.

Wegmans has plummeted so much I now only go when I need to use the pharmacy cause I do like to have a reason to pop in there and really like its pharmacy. It’s becoming less clear to me that the choice to use Wegmans pharmacy is even worthwhile though since they have nothing I want but can’t get elsewhere for a better price anymore. Anyway I might stop going and return to my ShopRite roots. Even Stop n Shop is better (for produce, novelty goods and pricing).

“Never think about yourself”

I find it funny about that big ol sign in every Wegmans I’ve ever been to that says “never think about yourself, always think about others” or something along those lines when that’s exactly how they want you to be when you work there. Bend over backwards for everything and anything but as soon as you need something, you’re treated like the biggest inconvenience that’s ever walked the earth.

You’re only as good as what you give.

E Commerce ?

Q: who is in charge of M2G / C2C ?

I know there’s an TL and that, STL’s sometimes can help you with an issue, but is there an area manager for

e-commerce? Like is there even a position that oversees the efficiency or any problems that arise ?
I have been there a year and have never seen anyone. Thanks.

Question about paper bags

Have all the Wegmans switched to these new awful bags that are thin as lined paper and melt from cold/frozen products? Or is it a temporary thing in my area.

I’m so upset about the hummus recipe change. It was my favorite snack ever it brought me joy it made me happy. I’ve had it for dinner, breakfast and lunch. I have never been so discouraged in my life. Any fellow wegfans relate.

Bakery question

Do all the stores usually have the same bakery items or does it differ store to store?
I bought pretzel bagels at one store but haven't seen them at the store I usually shop. They were,in my opinion, really good.

Cashiers of Wegmans do You think we should keep our keyboards.

I have been a cashier for over three years now. I've worked with both touchscreen and keyboard registers. I prefer keyboard registers because they can be much faster once you get used to them and memorize the PLUs or (price look-up). Typing on a moving, vertical touchscreen makes it harder to quickly enter passwords and ring up produce. I keep hearing that we will be getting new touchscreens, and while it would be nice to click the screen for heavy items like cases of water and soda, I'm not sure if they'll be removing our keyboards entirely. I'd love to hear what other cashiers think about this. TLDR should we keep keyboards with the new touchscreens

No Family Restrooms :(

I’ve been a lifelong Wegmans stan. It’s where I go to decompress and enjoy my grocery shopping experience. I’m a new parent and now realizing how disappointing it is that my Wegmans doesn’t have a family bathroom. And the changing table that is available in the women’s room is directly across from the stalls, so if I do use it, I’m in everyone’s way. Any other parents relate? Wegmans, we need family restrooms!!

Breakroom

It’s pretty unsettling how gross people are…. Our breakroom hasn’t been cleaned in MONTHS. There’s bugs flying around, spider webs in window corners, sauce all over microwaves, and stains under tables. What happened to learning to clean up after yourself…

Latte vs. Signature Latte

I was at the new Charlotte location this morning and at the coffee bar, the menu listed their speciality drinks (latte, cappucino, flat white, latte/macchiato, etc.) which are all $3.75 for a small, but then it had a separate line item for a “signature latte” which is only $3.50 for a small.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the latte and signature latte? I tried asking one of the employees but she didn’t understand the question.

STOP ABANDONING YOUR SHOPPING CARTS FULL OF ITEMS IF YOU DONT WANT TO SHOP ANYMORE!!!!!!!!

im SO DAMN tired of customers leaving their shopping carts full of items in random isles when they change their mind about shopping. I spent over an hour yesterday doing reshops before closing because some low iq extremely lazy customers decided to leave 3 carts full of items for us to find. I had to shrink a ton of meat and frozen items because they were sitting in the cart for probably hours

Can Wegmans lower my starting pay because of what I said in my interview?

I interviewed for a part-time job at Wegmans, and the posted starting pay is $16.50/hour. During the interview, they asked what my preferred pay was, and I said $12–$16/hour.
Did I screw myself over by giving a lower range? Can they offer me less than $16.50 because of my answer, or is the starting pay fixed regardless of what I said?
I’d appreciate answers from current or former Wegmans employees, especially anyone familiar with hiring.

It’s getting ridiculous.

It’s me, back again to complain again, I swear even though I have cut my hours the problems persist and I just don’t understand.

This is the 3rd time I have posted a shift, someone has picked up the shift, then I ask 4 separate managers who have schedule access: “Hey do you mind making sure you approve that shift or deny it so some I can make plans accordingly” and then they just leave it there until the shift invalidates and I just call out.

I don’t understand, they are on a computer or laptop CONSTANTLY. Do I have to drag them by the hair to remind them?

Peanut Butter Pie-is it back??

I was at Wegmans earlier today looking for the strawberry cake (must be done for the season) and I noticed chocolate peanut butter pie. Is it back for good or is this just location specific. It was at the Wegmans in Amherst.

In-person Interview Questions

I remember scouring the internet only to find nada, so here all of the in-person interview questions I can remember being asked as of October 2026. For reference I was applying for and successfully landed a cashier position.

Tell us what you know about this position.

What drew you to this position? Why Wegmans specifically?

What does food safety mean to you?

Why is it important to uphold food safety at Wegmans?

Can you share some practices of food safety that you know of?

Think back to a time you ran into an issue with a manager. How did you solve it?

If you were to have an issue with a manager or coworker how would you solve it?

Would you prefer to work directly with customer or instead behind the scenes?

What is your expected pay?

What does good customer service look like to you?

What would you do if a customer asked you a question you didn’t know the answer to?

How would you deal with an emotional or irate customer?

What kind of relationship do you think is appropriate to share with your coworkers and managers?

If a coworker wasn’t pulling their weight what would you do?

How would you interact with your coworkers?

What can you bring to Wegmans, or rather what makes you the best candidate for the role?

Is your schedule still the same as when you shared it over the phone?

Can you work holidays?

Can you lift up to 40lbs?

Do you have any questions for us?

Best of luck and happy interviewing! :)

Sticky Buns

Love Wegmans sticky buns which are sold in the bakery. Don’t love that the location I visited most recently sells them differently: 4 large buns squeezed into a smaller pan versus 6 smaller separated buns at a store I visited before. When I brought it up to the bakery that serves 4 per pan, they looked at me like I was crazy. Anyway, I like the variation of 6 smaller buns better. Can’t believe I took time to post this. Maybe I am crazy.
