Dressed like a Bride Someone wore white to my wedding lol

It didn't phase me that night honestly, but like DAMN. My friends apparently wanted to kick her out but didn't want to bother me with anything else that could be stressful (I love my friends so much). I found it pretty funny when I found out, and everyone who saw her was judging HARD, so it was whatever. She would be the person to do that though. Everyone said it haha. I just wanted to share the audacity. In the picture, I'm on the left and she is on the right. I'm honestly pretty sure the dress is supposed to be a very light blue?? Still insane to me haha. It's also floral like a wedding dress. My old boss said we looked like a lesbian couple getting married in that picture and we totally do.

Side note: you may be thinking, "wow that's crazy, but she must have somehow not known." Well, it was in the dress code, which I will also show below :)

Edit: i wish I could add a better picture of my dress because it was so gorgeous and soooo many people have seen this post now. There's a comment buried somewhere that has it haha

A bunch of people say they see blue. Chat, am I colorblind?

Get someone to photoshop the pictures to make the dress a bit more blue.

Edit: everyone saying compare it to the white shirt...white isn't just one specific shade.

Edit2: using the edited version from the replies, this was the bluest blue I could get with the eyedropper. That's white. Doubly so in the context of a wedding.

It's enough to set the white shirt on the right as a neutral white color... - the photo also suffers from overexposure in some areas on the dresses, so those appear more white than they are in reality.

But OP said it was white in person

8

u/TD1990TD 10h ago

Yeah, it still looks white. But as you can see, it has a blue tone compared to the white shirt next to it. That could explain why the wearer thought they could get away with it. “It’s light blue”. The dress looks white until a ‘true’ white stands next to it.

Anyone with a working brain knows that this very, VERY LIGHT blue is not acceptable on a wedding.

u/mitch_conner_ 10h ago

But it looks white to me, not blue.

It looks really blue to me.

Oh damn it's the old blue dress / gold dress debate all over again.

1

u/ATWA444 5h ago

😂 true. to me it looks more white.

1

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 5h ago

Did anyone else besides the bride say it?

7

u/tdavis726 10h ago

If it’s close enough to white that we are questioning it, it’s too white to wear to someone else’s wedding!

3

u/i_cant-stop_eating 10h ago

Right? Folk here are bringing out the color wheel.

2

u/CapeOfBees 10h ago

You could buy a wedding dress from the 90's that's further from white than that

1

u/tdavis726 10h ago

Or even more recently than then. I wore a gorgeous wedding dress nineteen years ago that was “pink champagne”.

2

u/CapeOfBees 8h ago

In the last couple decades it's gotten more popular to do nontraditional wedding dress colors. I do remember seeing "pink champagne" and similarly off-white dresses when I went dress shopping with my older cousin as a kid in the 2000s, but the 90s felt far enough back to avoid "uhm ackshually black wedding dresses"

2

u/tdavis726 5h ago

I *heard that “ackshually” 😂 thanks for that!

2

u/Just2Flame 6h ago

Agreed on this. I saw it as white at first but the more I look at it the more I see blue, either way it's waayyy too close.

Seeing how OP has also posted on r/relationship_advice because she gets jealous that her fiancé reacts so strongly to his moms cooking, i would assume that maybe shes prone to be a bit dramatic and would have found something else to complain about and post on reddit if it wasnt a light blue dress that maybe is a tad too white.

1

u/tdavis726 5h ago

I’m going to have to disagree. If *I saw a person in that dress at a wedding, I’d spontaneously think it was not an appropriate color to wear to someone else’s wedding. And then I’d get a photo and text it to my sister so we could ask each other, “Who DOES that???”

2

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 5h ago

Looks blue to me. Can't zoom in any closer so I just left in half the white dress shirt for comparison

1

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 5h ago

And here is OPs pic:

The lighting is already doing a lot of heavy lifting but next to the white of the grooms shirt you can tell the dress is not white. If you got a white dress dry cleaned and got this back and they insisted it was white, would you ask for your money back? Or would you insist it's either still dirty or colors from other clothes must have bled in if it were supposed to be white like the shirt next to it?

u/Single-Yam-9791 8h ago

Not just the color, but also the cut and fabric. Very disappointing.

u/OGMWhyDoINeedOne 11h ago

This does not help.

Cover the bride and look at the color compared to the actually white shirt next to her. The lighting and white balance are nor great, and OP is wearing cream instead of a more true white which has a yellow tone making the blue look more white than it actually is.

Though it is absolutely not blue enough to wear to a wedding.

6

u/lizzyote 12h ago

I definitely see that the bride's dress is more yellow but even zooming in so that just the other dress is visible and nothing else, it still looks white to me. Not as pure white as the fella's shirt but still firmly in the white category. Im sure it looks very different in person tho.

u/All__Of_The_Hobbies 12h ago

The white balance of the photos is contributing a lot here. The photo is overly warm/yellow. I did a quick edit using the guy's shirt as the reference color and get this as a more realistic color.

It is VERY light blue

4

u/lizzyote 12h ago

It still looks white to me 😭

1

u/All__Of_The_Hobbies 12h ago

Well, I don't know what to tell you then haha. Have you taken color blindness tests?

Out of curiousity, can you try the mosaic ones? https://www.colorlitelens.com/mosaic-color-blind-test-more

As a non-color blind person I can very easily get to 95% on the Red-Green and then with some looking get the 100% result. On the blue I can easily get to 90%, 95% with a bit more searching and cannot get the 100% result at all.

2

u/lizzyote 12h ago

That was fun af. I got 80% on the red-green, the rest are 90-95%. Maybe it's just white/super light colors i have issues with.

5

u/mitch_conner_ 11h ago

No you don’t. Op said it was white in person

2

u/All__Of_The_Hobbies 12h ago

For what it's worth I would bet money my dad (who is also not colorblind) would also only see that as white.

From seeing my mom try to get his opinions on almost identical paint shades over the years, I know he doesn't see the small differences haha

2

u/TheRestForTheWicked 11h ago

Huh. Today I learned that colorblind is the only type of blind that I am not because I got 100% on both.

2

u/jaggillarjonathan 11h ago

That was fun! I got 100% on blue but red-green I could only force to 90%, to 80% was easy

1

u/mitch_conner_ 11h ago

Looks white to me

1

u/mitch_conner_ 11h ago

Is a different material to the shirt. It looks like a polyester not a cotton so it’s giving off different light than the shirt but still very much true white

1

u/JePPeLit 10h ago

Are you saying that any hint of blue makes it blue and not white? Because I think I can see a slight blueness to it, but I would definitely categorize it as white

1

u/All__Of_The_Hobbies 10h ago edited 10h ago

Very light blue notoriously photographs close to white and can look whiter in under certain lighting conditions. This dress looks very light blue and not a real white when you look at the photo as a whole. But you should never wear anything that people have to look twice

That said, a single Google search found this exact dress, and it is light blue with white lace flowers. I made a comment because it was interesting to see in different lighting conditions and photos. https://www.reddit.com/r/weddingshaming/s/5usfGIDTD7

No sense trying mate. Just be the real human, let the bots be bots.

1

u/mitch_conner_ 11h ago

Same. Even when I cover the bride it still looks white just a different white to the shirt. Also op said it was white in person

9

u/36563 11h ago

I see a white dress and a yellow dress… 😆

1

u/TD1990TD 10h ago

Nah those are definitely black and blue dresses!

/s

6

u/letthetreeburn 11h ago

To be fair, most “white” garments aren’t actually white. Pure white doesn’t look good on most people. Even flipping through a bridal website most every dress is going to have another undertone. This dress is a blueish white, the bride’s is a yellowish white.

That being said, holy shit you don’t wear anything white to a wedding, undertones be damned?!

2

u/Brown_Panda69 8h ago

I don't get the issue, it's clearly gold and blue!

1

u/Imnotawerewolf 11h ago

It's like the gold/white black/blue dress

It doesn't look blue to you because it's really light and the colors and light around it are influencing the way you see it.

If you opened it in Photoshop and used the color picker on it, it would seem noticably blue-er than it does in the picture.

1

u/lizzyote 11h ago

I decided to check the eye dropper method. It's all white but in the yellow category.

1

u/lizzyote 11h ago

Someone else posted an edited version to make it look less yellow overall so I tried on that one. I took the bluest blue i could eyedrop to show where it lands on the wheel. Sure it's under the blue category but that close to white is white imo.

0

u/Imnotawerewolf 11h ago

So to be clear your take is that white comes in shades but this particular shade is "just white"?

2

u/lizzyote 10h ago

Not "just white". Its a shade of white. Not a shade of blue.

1

u/Imnotawerewolf 6h ago

What part of the color wheel is it on?

1

u/ikilledholofernes 10h ago

Bright and cool whites tend to photograph a little blue, but mostly just standing next to the very warm white of the bride makes this dress appear more blue. Just color theory at work.

1

u/mairoh 8h ago

Just gonna say, that picture of the colour dropper is a very pale blue. I don't think that justifies it, but it absolutely is blue if that is the colour dropper. But I think the bigger thing to focus on is most white outfits are off white. Very rarely is it truly white, and if it looks pale enough to be mistaken as white then it's too light for this occasion.

1

u/PeopleCallMeSimon 7h ago

There are 4 people in the image.

Far left: Black top and pants

Left: Cream/Eggshell/Ivory dress (probably the bride)

Right: Alice blue dress (Hexcode #F0F8FF)

Far right: White shirt black pants.

2

u/SomethingComesHere 11h ago

Oh whatever...

Anyone saying that is being intentionally obtuse. It's a white dress. It's more white than op's wedding dress!

0

u/Heartage 10h ago

It is definitely blue, but SUCH a pale blue that I'd call it "blue tinted white."

u/koolaidismything 11h ago

All the top comments are saying exactly what you said. No one sees blue, they saw an opportunity to lite a fuse and did it lol.
