It reminds me of the cake. The three fairies made in sleeping beauty if it was just in white kind of lopsideed & a little tipsy Turvey layers everywhere.
That was my dream to eat that cake as a kid! My mom would tell me if I slept like Sleeping Beauty, maybe a fairy godmother would bring it to me. Her a$$ lied.
It really has that messy fairy tale charm like the Three Fairies were decorating it together and just kept adding crooked layers until they finally called it done
It's all the end bits of fondant ribbon cut so bluntly and just pressed on. A little bit more care and pizzaz and it would have been much prettier I think.
I know my sister made one for a class assignment
while getting a culinary degree! So the point is knowing how to make and interact with with actual mediums (fondant, icing, chocolates, etc)
Still silly to put it on styrofoam but I do understand wanting to have one intact consistent base for everyone
I mean, that feels like something you don’t sell. Especially if it turns out like this C+. Edit: I looked at the later pictures and would like to amend my grade to a C- at best.
I mean yeah sure it’s definitely something you don’t buy
But I’m pretty sure the dumpster is their only other option, so, meh? The only thing they have to lose is a couple minutes to post it… and their dignity when it gets circulated around social media being roasted.
Okay wait but how? I'm such a terrible baker but I've managed layered cakes... They'll go off kilter but this... It's just.. A blob. Did it melt somehow?!
Many (not all) cakes at weddings aren't real. This is why you never see them cut the entire thing. The top is usually real. Usually they have a display for the awwwww factor. I was at a wedding with a 10 tier cake. Once the couple cut the bottom staff took it to the back and in less than ten seconds staff came out with cake slices.... I was like what kinda ninja cutting..... then someone told me. Color me uninformed 😂😆😂
Most cakes are real. It’s the ones where either they’re so elaborate and the design would collapse the cake, occasionally budget is a concern (although fake tiers cost the same or more than real cake) or like you said- the size is FAR greater than the number of people. In that case some of the cake is real, usually for the number of ppl there and the rest is styrofoam or there are sheet cakes in the back plus the top anniversary tier. The piece you see cut is literally a chunk cut out of the Styrofoam and a real slice inserted. It’s marked somehow (flower or other decoration) so they know where to cut.
I know this as I was a pastry chef for 20 yrs in Chicago for high end cakes. High end like a $20,000 order. That one was fake. Here I am with it standing on a table minus the top tiers! I’m 5’7” for reference.
Some also have a real top tier for the couple to save. I think my sister and her husband's wedding cake had a real bottom tier and too tier, and a fake middle tier. Then they had a sheet cake. But that was also 25 years ago and I was a young teen so I don't fully remember lol. I do know they saved the top at least.
Also a real 3 tier cake serves 75-100 people. So if you have fewer people than that you're going to have a ton of wasted cake. A fake cake display+ sheet cake gives you exactly the number of slices you actually need to serve.
We did. I have some pretty severe food allergies and it would have cost a ridiculous amount for a professional cake. My mom and I made the fake cake itself and she made the top layer (lemon verbena pound cake with raspberries and lemon curd frosting) for the cake cutting. We had an enormous dessert bar instead.
I say vaginal because there would be more texture with the folds. The dick would be boring, your cake could end up looking like Peppa Pig’s dad. The first time I saw that cartoon at my friend’s house I was like are their talking dicks on your kid’s cartoon?! No one can tell me that wasn’t done on purpose.
Why would you have a fake wedding cake at your wedding? So you don’t have to share cake or buy it??
Read a post elsewhere yesterday of an awful wedding someone went to that had barely any food for over 200 people (I think), and when they brought the cake out, it was a very small sheet cake which the couple cut a tiny square of for photos and people to watch and as soon as they did, the cake was wheeled away behind the scenes.. 🤦♀️
A mate of mine of her second go round decided to do a cheeseboard instead of cake. Stacked up on various boards, it looked great and was appreciated by the maturer crowd.
I dont see the point of a false cake, unless for like a film or something?
more for show and tradition. ‘Everyone else had a beautiful tiered wedding cake so i need one too. but thats really expensive so im gonna order a fake one (maybe it has one real slice in it for a photo op of the couple eating from it) and then hand out sheet cake to everyone else to save money.’
I mean, I don’t love most wedding cakes anyway - I’ve never really understood the tradition of a giant super expensive cake. But this isn’t the worst thing I’ve seen. I’m more shocked that people would get a fake cake in the first place. Why not just not do a cake? So odd.
Oof, it looks like it's been used and being resold. Dry but also overly heavy that some places are stretched with holes. Just so very sad. The first wedding cake I ever made looked better than this.
I would be so incredibly proud if I'd made this. Less sure if it meets the standard of expect from a professional cake costing hundreds or thousands (I have no idea how much a wedding cake costs)
