Dawg as a professional seamstress who is also very bad at time management.......choosing to hem the veil, a completely unnecessary step, before making a critical piece like the actual skirt, is CRAZY work. The skirt didn't even need to have a hem!

In hindsight, I realized this. But by then I was a little punchdrunk with exhaustion. And other people were supposed to be focusing on that task. None of us were thinking clearly, just straight to panic mode.

Also, she (in a move no one could see coming) hadn’t bought the best fabric. The edges were trash and frays everywhere.

Trying to stitch two people's wedding attire in less than 24hrs is insane. I'd be sending them out to the nearest thrift store and wishing them luck.

It was already too late for that (the shops were closing). But yeah.

A bride who never bothered to even try to assemble her wedding outfit is not a bride who will be grateful towards a last-minute miracle-worker. Painfully clear that she just didn’t care.

I get being young and naive and thinking that surely, deep down, this mattered to her, and you’d be a hero for saving her from her own lack of effort, but woof. I hope a lesson was learned.

There were a lot of things going on that led to this (some of which were mental health related). I can be sympathetic, without being a sucker. I’m still friendly acquaintances with her, but we’ve never been close. This wasn’t about being a hero, it was about letting her smile on her wedding day. However much of a shit show it was otherwise.

Oh, and I loved the story, and the way you wrote it!

This is a lovely attitude and reply. People are weird, I hope you stay this way. :)

She is shaming this woman across at least two different subs. One of which is literally named “wedding shaming.”

Playing the “no I don’t regret it I’m just that generous and gracious” angle now is obnoxiously disingenuous.

I will happily pay OP to never...NEVER...again refer to her husband, or anyone's husband...as "hubs"

Cool. Please feel free to PayPal me at any time.

For the record, he had no problem with the word.

You're trying a little too hard to come across like the "east ender" you're not....innit.

I have never seen that show. No idea what you’re trying to insult me with here. But cool, I guess?

Fun fact: I also call my boyfriend “my boyfriend”. He likes it. Do you hate that, too?

Just not a fan of Americans pretending to be British.

Hubs isn't British English is it? I'd always read it as American.

I’m not? This is how I talk. My language has drifted over the years. That’s how it works when you spend more than a decade abroad and have to adapt your vocabulary to be more easily understood by your coworkers and customers.

But, you know what? I don’t have to explain who I am as a person or how I speak to you or anyone. This isn’t “AITA for speaking the way I do” cause I’m not and that’s not even close to the point of this post. Have the day you deserve.

A) pretty sure there was an almost identical post of Renfair "I BUILT 600 WEDDING OUTFITS AND SWORDS FOR 200 DOLLARS AT THE LAST MINUTE"

B) A medieval chemise is basically a full-length (and frequently long-sleeved) nightgown. A bodice over that would just...look like a dress. It's not a corset or bra over panties.

But go on, "I'm hemming in the car" Master Seamstress!

Ok. Not sure what you’re trying to prove here. This was my personal experience, other people have other experiences. It’s almost like…people have experiences. Did you eat food today? Oh my gosh, so did I! We’re basically identical.

The chemise did just look like a flimsy, thin nightgown. And the bodice didn’t. It lacked structure or interest and just…draped down. It looks trash.

And the hemming was pretty shit, tbh. It just needed to keep the edge from fraying while she danced.

Well, that was written in a very entertaining way

I would probably have gone and bought her a cheap sundress

If you had done this for me I would never stop thanking you. You would be irritated with the amounts of gratitude I’d be showing
