Wedding/Engagement Photos Engagement Shoot

Post image

Hi everyone,

I was hoping to get some feedback. Me and my Fiancé just got our sneak peak back from our engagement photographer.

When I sent my inspo I did send photos that were more soft/candid. I am attaching a reference photo of what I got back. I am really disappointed as I feel they are more portrait style/harsh. In this photo the beach/sky almost looks fake.

Am I being picky? I have not messaged them yet about my concerns.

Thank you all!

Post your inspo photos too. This looks like a beautiful photo but don’t know what you’re comparing it to.

"Soft/candid" can encompass a lot. You often need to be specific/have a conversation about what you like about your reference photos. Same as when you go to the salon lol

I’m not getting what you mean saying this pic is harsh, I think the background looks beautiful. It does look posed, but it’s only one pic.

I’d be a bit annoyed too, I could take the same pics on my iPhone. What were your inspo pics like?

I am attaching a photo that was in the sneak peak that I did think was pretty and I am attaching my inspo pictures. Unfortunately it was definitely a gray day up until sunset

I did think this one was pretty however it still feels a little harsh to me.

I see what you mean now. Yeah, I’d be upset. Hopefully as you get more you find some that fit what you wanted. You could also ask them to edit them in warmer filter

you just didn’t have the right lighting/weather conditions to make this look like the inspo pics. the inspo photos have the subjects in partially direct sunlight at sunset. if it was mostly cloudy on your engagement shoot day, you just aren’t gonna get those warm tones. color grading alone won’t perfectly replicate it, because you still won’t have that warm glow from the direct sunlight

also it seems your photos are a bit under exposed, too

maybe explain that the photos don’t match your vision and see if they would consider another shoot. but the photographer can’t control the weather, so idk that requesting a free shoot or refund is fair… the photographer at most should’ve explained that your photos weren’t gonna look exactly like the inspo. so maybe you could ask for the second shoot at a discounted rate. and make sure you schedule it for a day with clear skies

Message them now, before the full gallery gets edited in the same style. Sneak peeks are usually the punchiest shots, and asking for a softer, warmer edit at this stage is a normal request, not a complaint
A beach that looks fake is usually heavy HDR or a swapped sky
Ask straight out whether the sky was replaced, a good photographer will just tell you and re edit
