i like that the trainer's name is left to the reader's imagination (i see what you did there (falchion falcon), although a little disappointed that rapier tapir didn't fight an épée bee or flail whale or morningstar-a capybara or something)

The three opponents are “en garde”, “pret”, and “allez”, which are the three things the judge says to start a fencing match. In English, “on guard”, “ready”, “go.”
The en-guardian is not on guard.
The pret-y-pus is not ready.
The allez-gator says “let’s go”.
