Evolution of SPAA effectiveness against tanks

u/recoil-1000 1d ago
It is tradition at this point for the lobby to make fun of people spawning in the 30mm aa’s off the bat

u/trumpsucks12354 1d ago
One good thing about the T58 is that they can obliterate these hellspawns at the start of the match. Fighting cancer with cancer

Shocked the Duster isn't here. Them 40mm are a menace if they catch you in the side

Bro that is not an SPAA. That's a "fuck whatever I'm aiming at" vehicle.
6
u/Own-Consideration854 1d ago
It literally has Flak in the name. WT brain rot is taking over.

u/iranoutofuckingnames 23h ago
Funny how the vehicle description says it's intended purpose was to be a tank destroyer, and the flak in it's name is only regarding the gun....but whatever, brainrot o algo.

u/Leopard_2K_MBT 🇩🇪 Peak German Engineering 🇩🇪 22h ago
It's called the "Flakbus" / "Flaktruck" because its primary purpose was firing (you didn't actually guess it) FLAK SHELLS! And "Flak" is short for "Fliegerabwehrkanone", which essentially translates to "anti-air cannon". It's an AA.
3
u/gokartninja 19h ago
No, its primary purpose was hauling the (Flak) gun around. It was originally intended to destroy fortifications, but also ended up being used against heavy French tanks

Not mentioned are all the spaa equipped with the 40mm Bofors there's a couple at low tier that are absolute beasts. Also not mentioned is the super underrated Zut-37, yes it's apparently an spaa with the slowest turret rotation in the world BUT man that 37mm is so good at dealing with tanks it's honestly a better light tank then an spaa.

I want to have the flakpanzer341 so bad
4
u/ElBaizen 1d ago
Its a fun demon but doesnt obliterate as much as 35mm spaa because at that BR theres far more armored enemies
4
u/Xx21beastmode88 1d ago
Ah the wirblewind at mid, I remember back in my day it was at 3.7 and a demon
1
u/Leopard_2K_MBT 🇩🇪 Peak German Engineering 🇩🇪 1d ago
Is it not still? If you can aim correctly, then it's more than capable.
2
u/Xx21beastmode88 1d ago
I only say mid because thats where it is on the image and because I haven't played it in so long
1
u/Leopard_2K_MBT 🇩🇪 Peak German Engineering 🇩🇪 22h ago
Oh, okay. It's still great at taking out just about everything.

u/ImpactDangerous3270 13h ago
It is nowhere near what it used to be with +60mm pen. That meant you could take on tanks like T-34s from 500m just by shooting through their turret face and T-34 sides were very vulnerable. Now T-34s turret even at point blank will just eat all the HVAP ammo.

What the fuck why is the IRIS-T Terrible
13
u/Kride501 1d ago
Because you can't read. The title says "effectiveness against tanks." Now why would the Irist be terrible there hmmm
1
u/92-Uranium235 20h ago
But at the top tier, there are still SPAAs like the ADATS, LAV-AD, or even the 2S6 and Pantsir SM SV, which can be very dangerous.
1
u/Kride501 20h ago
They can be, yea, but the tanks around these br are at their peak of the br. They are faster, better armored, reload faster, punch harder and react faster. Getting a kill with one of those AAs vs then getting a kill with a Gepard at it's br is quite the difference.
4
u/KeyPhilosopher8629 Will possibly forget compression exists 1d ago
Because it can't do squat against tanks
7
u/Johni33 1d ago
I have 6 Tank kills with the iris-t

I’ve kill T-72s with the Flarak. Roland system, it is pretty funny to do.
1
u/Artygnat 1d ago
How?
2
u/AverageDellUser Ace 1d ago
Overpressure somehow, I panicked and hit either the top of his turret or the turret cheek, I can’t rlly remember which
1
u/Artygnat 23h ago
That’s fine, but how did you get a lock?
1
u/AverageDellUser Ace 18h ago
Don’t need one, the Roland system based on the marder chassis is SACLOS so it follows where your reticle is and does not require a lock. https://wiki.warthunder.com/unit/germ_flarakpz_1

I've got several tank kills with the OSA as well.
That doesn't make it good at it lmao
2
u/wargamer19 1d ago
dude I've had CRAZY games with the flakpanzer. It shreds at low tier, you can even take it up to 1.7 or 2.0 and do alright with it
2
u/arturthegamer #1 Ariete simp 1d ago
I raise you otomatic it's pretty damn good, you just gotta remember the 12 apfsds limit and take some sap for safety
2
u/sharktail_tanker 1d ago
ISTG they are deliberately not fixing overpressure stacking at this point, a York can still pen a T-72 to the turret face with the SAP shells by killing the breech and triggering an overpressure kill
1
u/randommaniac12 Every ground tree but Israel 11.3 or abvoe 1d ago
I've bounced APHE rounds off of the loaders MG into the turret to get kills on T-55's, it's absolutely absurd

Idk what ur talking about. My favorite way of having fun is playing Flakpanzer 1 and getting about 20 kills each game

Of the 2 demons shown, at least the ZSU-57-2 can be reliably killed with overpressure from any heat round (I play a lot of vehicles with high pen HEAT-FS) or 50 calibers. The flakpanzer is high key worse especially when you can’t see where you’re shooting. Dealing with a ZSU that is obscured by a hill just means arcing heat or he over the hill & hitting anywhere on the vehicle. The flakpanzer, however, requires actually hitting a weak point like your average medium tank.

u/Educational_Card_193 1d ago
What about the twin 30mm from russia, ive killed loads of tanks with that

At least the damn Coelian dies when you kill it. The stupid Ameripard has the most advanced armor array in the world.

The M13/16 is probably the best AA / AT for its BR
Edit: What can stop it? A PZ III E frontally, maybe the 38T and the Swedish things, but most things are dead frontally/ All things are dead from the side.
2
u/ImpactDangerous3270 13h ago
M16 is 2.7 at that BR pretty much everything that isn't Japanese has enough armor to stop 50cal from front and even M13 has to face PzIVs,PzIIIs, 2.3 Pz 38ts, T-28E, T60/T70/T80, Stuart 1/3, Ho-I, whole M13 series, Turan, M41s and basically most of French tree.

the fact that this lineup completely ignores WWII/Korea-era 40mm SPAA is hilarious to me. Do you guys seriously not know how great it is?

coelian is literaly dogwater. at 7.0 there's many more AA that can clap tanks and putting it in with the ZSU is disguisting
1
u/HuskySkrr 1d ago
Tell me you don't know how to play coelian without telling me you can't play coelian
