I wanted to DM Hell rides to Hallt and now im not sure if im stupid, blind or Master of Changes Tzeench already took my soul but i have a problem with moons in that adventure.
It is said it starts few days before Hexennacht, but descryption given in chapter 1st is:
"As the sun sets, the cold clear night sky is illuminated by the evening's first stars and the two moons, Mannslieb and Morrslieb; the former a waning cescent as if a lidded eye..."
I was under impession that Hexennacht is a night of two full moons, but waning crescent implicates it would be a new moon soon, not a full moon.
Also in chapter 5 there is descryption:
"Night falls across the land, and only Morrslieb rises above the mountains and forests..."
But during Ritual:
"Overhead, as the rituals reaches its climax, the stars and moons (plural) wheel until all is dark, and onlu Morrslieb hangs full and large in the sky..."

I know there is a lot of wierd stuff happening inside Hallt as the Hexennnight is getting closer but they would for sure (or at least players characters) notice that the moon phase is off by half a cycle!

I have two questions as a beginner gm, after playing two of the ubersreik adventures my players racked up around 450xp and two of them have menaged to level up in their career. In the 4ed CRB rules state that they have to act like their status and if not they will lose it. My question is how could they get it back after that becouse upgrading again the same number of skills, talents and attributes feels off to me.
My second question is that i want to steer into the guilty party and then to enemy in shadows but i saw somwhere that its best if the caracters dont have too much or too little XP when starting EiS. So what is an approximate XP bracket they should be in?

If I remember correctly Siegfried is a warrior priest of Sigmar, Achlys is some sort of magic user. Sebastien is a nobleman from Brettonia and Maria is a duellist from Estalia.

Hi All! I finally had some time to update Hammergen. It now supports both 4e and 5e, and it's got a slightly refreshed look. Hopefully it's less eye-hurting now. Compendium lists and character sheets should be much more clear now.

Having recently finished my guide to Death on the Reik I thought I'd look at some meta questions about running TEW in 4E. In this instalment I cover: 1] Combat round timings, 2] Running enemy spellcasters, 3] Handout variety, and 4] Levelling up and changing careers.

Have you had any general issues with running the Enemy Within in 4E? Post your questions below or in the comments of my blog and perhaps I can get to them in a future post.

Secondly, the background to both my character and the NPC bellow contains both spoiler-free and spoilers sections as I do bear in mind that some people might have not played the respective adventure the NPC appears in and, we have done some changes to it across the Campaign we played in. Also, you are dealing with just a totally normal Empire Pistolier so no need to read or enquire further about her neither right?

Thirdly, for some context before the character descriptions themselves the art commission was done in celebration of 5th edition itself coming out as both characters were part of a long-running campaign set in Ubersreik that I played in with a group of friends over the course of 4th edition. Both the Character and the NPC survived the respective campaign when it ended, became actually very close friends, and now they are acting as re-occuring NPC’s for some of the other groups which I host as a Gamemaster for that play in Ubersreik later on during the timeline

The Pistolier(?): Outrider Sergeant Ludwina von Vonnbrecht is the current commander of the Local Regiment of Pistoliers in Ubersreik. An Ostlander noblewoman who arrived in the city during the Turmoil of 2512, alongside other Altdorf Troops, she is currently found commanding the Local Regiment of Pistoliers of the city and modeling them after the tactics and appearance of the Altdorf Noble Son’s Abroad. Much to the displeasure of some of the local noble scions as her training drills for the Pistoliers often involve active and regular patrols alongside local Roadwardens throughout the duchy. She is often found in both the Morgensite and the Red Moon Inn during the evenings.

SPOILERS:

Lyudmilla Felixovna Pugachev is the Praag born commander of the Kislevite Cheka/Akshina detachment assigned to monitoring the wider Reikland province outside of Altdorf. Although not in charge of the Chekists/Akshina in Altdorf she controls the activities of the Reikland detachment from Ubersreik as her objective is making sure that the politics of the region are stirred in such ways that benefit Kislev. Internal conflicts in the Reikland must stay to a minimum, resources and troops need to be diverted to the Imperial provinces bordering Kislev and any such elements that threaten Kislev from abroad must be put down before they can pose a real danger. A personal and close friend of Franz Lohner and Lady Gutele von Bruner she has been able to maintain both her cover story and operations farily hidden although she has to sometimes explain to her superiors whilst co-operations with Ranaldians or other Imperial Secret Services was required for particular operations.

The Fishrook: The mythical Outlaw of many a bawdy novel in the Reikland who appears to still occasionally plague the provincial roads in the Duchy of Ubersreik according to the drunken ramblings of some travellers whose coaches have been attacked to this day. Although somewhat interestingly the modern tales concerning the Figure of the Fishrook now quite aptly resemble the original writings with its victims being corrupt noblemen and town councillors, priests who do not practice what they preach and even other violent outlaws, racketeers and criminals that plague the Dutchy of Ubersreik. 

SPOILERS:

Lady Gutele von Bruner, is, as far as most people are concerned a respectable if somewhat eccentric young noblewoman of the von Bruner family in Ubersriek. In reality she is a High Priest of Ranald the Deceiver and the figure behind the mask of the Fishrook. In the campaign we played our GM changed her motivation for the Fishrook stunts from the original ones in the module. Instead of simply doing them out of boredom she has been inspired instead by the painting of Ranald and Shallya commissioned by her ancestor Gustav von Bruner and after a chance introduction one night with another local priest she became an apprentice and later on during the campaign High Priest of Ranald using the disguise of the Fishrook to, more non-violently, strike at different corrupt figures of authority in the Duchy that she saw resposible for the Turmoil. Initially also not realizing for a while the corruption that ran within her very own family in a very literal sense. A corruption that, once discovered, a party of adventurers, including a certain Chekist/Akshina would help her in purging. A certain Chekist/Akshina that she would also form a close friendship with despite the two being very prone to lying to one another on daily basis.

So I guess this was always confusing me or something, but I've played for years that trappings were just naturally part of that character level. Seeing 5e requires you to actually get or buy your trappings which helps advance you closer to your next career level, that wasn't in 4e so I had always just seen as part of the characters "job"... like for a mage you get your license as part of your leveling up and doing the endeavors. And lot of times its some petty junk. But then of course some careers gain some valuable stuff. Does anyone else do it that way? I guess I had thought it was like this but rereading things it seems that's just for starting the career at the start you get that levels trappings.

I'm DMing Enemy withing for my gaming group with tendeadrats OSR homebrew rules system and we are planning on continuing our adventure after shadow over bögenhafen.

Our campaign ended on a quite different note than The C7 book suggests, as our heroes made a deal with a witchhunter that doublecrossed them and now they somewhat work for him.

Now The guestion is, there seems to be very little incentive for the party to start investigating Etelka Hertzen given by either book (original or C7). I havent found anything that would change too much If The party would just be put after Etelka by The Witchunter? So just get a job "find Etelka Hertzen". Seems like My players poor choices reward me later.

Hi all! I'm prepping a WFRP 5e campaign (latest core revision) and I can't find a clear answer on the timing of Fear.

The Fear Trait (p. 183) says:

"When you encounter one or more creatures causing Fear, make a single Extended Psychology Test unless they are known allies. Make one roll each round, with a target number of SL equal to the Fear Rating."

And Intimidate in Combat (p. 169) says:

"As an Action make an Intimidate Test opposed by the target's Cool. If successful, the target Fears you, treating you as having a Fear rating of 1, plus 1 more for each SL after the first."

What I can't pin down:

1. Does the Fear roll use the affected character's Action, or is it free?
2. When is the first roll made? Immediately when the Fear starts (e.g. during the intimidator's Turn), at the start of the affected character's own Turn, or at the end of the Round?
3. "One roll each round": if Fear is inflicted mid-Round, does that Round's roll happen right away, or does the first roll wait until the next Round?

How I'm running it for now:

• The roll is free (it's a reaction, not something you choose to do).
• The first roll happens immediately when the Fear starts.
• Then one roll at the end of each following Round until the SL add up.

I based the end-of-Round timing on Broken (Cool Test "at the end of each Round", p. 186) and Hatred (another test "at the end of each round after the first", p. 184).

Is there an official clarification or FAQ on this? And how do you handle it at your table?

Bonus question: Size (p. 360) says "Aggressive creatures cause Fear in those smaller than them" but gives no Rating. What Rating do you use? I'm leaning towards 1 per Size step of difference.

Nothing about specific WFRP products here, but a general ‘mea culpa’ about poor communication about shipping delays, and a promise of a proper production update in the next couple of weeks.

After months of modeling, my new ruin set is finally finished. This is by far the largest scenery project I’ve ever painted, and the whole painting process took around 10 days. Painting all those stones, wooden beams, and rooftops was quite a challenge, but seeing everything come together made it worth it.

Hullo! I bring two things that I've wanted to clarify for a while. We play 4ed on our table, we are just starting the horned rat now and been playing for over a year with the same group of friends (quite happy to have a stable group finally). I will probably update us to 5ed once I have it, specially once it's available for foundry, but I haven't read anything yet really... so maybe this two things are solved with the rules update (let me know too please).

1- First question might not have a rules answer, it's about pistols. The witch hunter player started buying them as soon as he was able to use them (who wouldn't?) and when he asked me if he could carry more than two, ready to shot, in that moment I said, sure why not, let's say your holster belt can carry six, three on each side. So now, every combat starts with him shooting two pistols every turn (with both dual weapon talents bought), and basically killing four to six opponents.

In some situations it makes combat a bit unchallenging of course. I try enemies to be smart around it and to tailor situations, but sometimes it's just a one shot.

The question or questions is: does anywhere in the rules say this just can't be done? or should I just simply tell him, look, you can have two pistols ready... are we using the dual wielder talent right? two shots? can this two shots be at different targets? That's how we play it.

2- Then simple question about conditions. In the last session, one player got like 7 stacks of -10 to every check. I was wondering, if they endurance/cool/whatever roll to get rid of each level of the condition should have the -70 to the roll, or if that is rolled plain to +0...

Hi, I’m looking to make a large random table for adventuring in the Reikwald itself and would like to know what have been your favourite monster encounters and why?

After my review of Tome of Corruption last week, I've been musing more on the Warhammer Chaos Gods. See the link above for my rather heretical thoughts on the suitability and unsuitability of the Chaos Powers for WFRP!

Hi. I am running a campaign (4th edition Careers and now 5th edition rules), and we are two thirds through DOTR. The group have just visited a small isolated village and are now heading north into the barren wilderness with a guide from the village (trying not to give anything away here!).

The thing is, our (definite) plan is to finish the campaign at the end of DOTR. I have read through the book, and am all prepped (as much as I can be) for the visit to the end location and the mayhem that can occur there. In our campaign EH is the primary villain, leader of the RC. We played Siege of Diesdorf within the DOTR story, and the town fell, making EH even more the primary goal. I plan for a meeting soon with EH at a return visit to a previous location, and (if I can avoid combat there), the team will meet EH again at the final location.

I am unsure how to turn the ending into a satisfying finale though. The book ending leads into PBtT, but of course we won't be playing that. Perhaps dealing with EH once and for all will be enough, along with the book ending for the final location, and the unexpected intervention re the MacGuffin?

I would love your thoughts or ideas for this! Any other GMs ended at this point?
