Discussion / Question PSA: Amazon Luna exists, you probably have it (with Prime), and it has some surprisingly good games
I was hoping Star Wars Galactic Racer was on Game Pass and was surprised to find out it's on Luna. Also saw Hogwarts Legacy was on Luna which is perfect for Halloween vibes. I never use Luna but I always have Prime, so I definitely plan on checking this app more frequently to see what new games they add.

I like to own everything in one place but I use it as a "try before you buy" or to play super short games that I don't care about owning and want to save a few £ on. Same for Epic Games. Right now it has a couple I've been waiting on sales for (Star Wars Outlaws and the Avatar game, I've played what feels like every other open world RPG so I find myself considering the Ubisoft ones...). It's nice not to have that 2 hour Steam refund window to decide, can play for as long as it takes to decide if it's for me.
They give a ton of games out for Epic Games and GOG (and a couple other stores) too, so you can download them instead of streaming for those who are citing slow internet as a reason not to use it.
Checked rn and they have Doom Eternal and High on Life claimable to keep forever on the Microsoft Store and High on Life on Epic Games. Pretty good for "free" (I am stuck paying for Prime for my household anyway).

Yeah I tried galactic racer on luna for a bit but wasn't a fan of quality dropping so I opted to buy it. Definitely worth trying if you plan on buying.

I'm just not a fan of streaming games, can't get over the input delay.

They give out a bunch to keep on GOG/Epic too. For Epic my account is linked and for GOG ones it gives me a code to redeem. Can play those offline.

What are you using to play it?

PC, with a wired keyboard and wireless mouse.

Fwiw I get better performance from a firestick and an Xbox controller than I do on my laptop but my firestick is in the same room as my router so that might be the difference

For what it’s worth, I’ve found Luna has really improved since I initially tested it. When I first tried it years(?) ago, it was quite laggy, but now I’m finding it comparable to stadia in terms of responsiveness, for the most part. I do still get occasional lag spikes and the visuals do suffer from time to time, unfortunately.
Still a very positive experience for me. Especially for games my PC can’t run or I don’t own for GeForce now. Obviously your mileage will vary with your own connection, etc.

I think luna flies under the radar for a lot of people, so it's good to remind them it's there.
That said, I've tried a few of the streaming services (including luna), and as much as I'm not an xbox gamer, the gamepass ultimate was the best option.
Decent selection of games, and latency was minimal compared to the alternatives like luna. It obviously isn't competing with luna offering free cloud gaming if you already have prime, but if you can afford the monthly sub, and want cloud, xbox is well worth it.

Yeah I noticed this a couple months ago when they added Dispatch which I wanted to play. I mostly play on console so I got it working on my Xbox with the Edge browser, but the controller was kind of confusing at times so I figured I'd just play it on my Mac desktop but never got around to it. Thanks for the reminder!

Streaming part aside, if you have prime you do get free games from them MANY of which are for/from GOG. So if streaming isn't something you can really do then it still is worth it to check out the free games to claim.
The Amazon/epic games are arguably just as good you just maybe don't have that GoG level of trust in those games staying available.
