Sony pulling out of physical disks and PC ports probably lost all the good will they've built over the years. Most of the exclusives were never that special to begin with but they never missed completely and they were pretty consistent on the narrative front for a while.

But gameplay wise it was always pretty generic, formulaic design. With the hype gone, it's really no wonder.

Besides the sheer stupidiy that killing physical disc production is for them, cutting out the PC market has gotta be one of the dumber things they've done in recent years.

As a PC gamer that left Sony back in 2021 and bought literally all of their games on Steam. It pissed me off that they just threw their hands in the air for literally no reason after hyping and doing reports about how they're going to support PC ports for years to come. Just to rug pull before Yotai and Soros and take their toys home. I 100% am willing to bet they will be porting again by mid 2030's if not sooner.

Their upper management has been all over the place, someone needs to be shown the door

Herman Hulst is quite possibility the lowest IQ gaming exec in modern gaming.

Same for me. Bought a PS5 just for Spider-Man and vowed never again. Them pulling out of PCs just makes me angry. It does not make me want to buy another PS console.

I bet Sony feel like they were pushed into a position where they had to take action.

Xbox have been buying up studios left and right then bringing them into game pass for exclusives, early releases and extra benfits. Its created an ecosystem that when you are in you likely dont want to leave

Sony havent changed their tactic in the market and just shown a handful of exclusives and gambled on brand loyalty and hardware comparisons.

Them putting their games onto steam was getting rid of one of the few reasons for owning a playstation.

I was pissed about Yotei as well. I had just recently done a Lethal playthrough as my first go around with Tsushima and I had so much fun with it barring some boss fights which weren't adjusted to the difficulty properly. Even started another playthrough on Lethal+. Was looking forward to Yotei only for them to ditch PC so my response was "well I guess I'm not playing that one.". I'm not gonna spend 800 on a video game box for developers to target fucking 30fps. If it's not on PC I'm just not gonna play it, simple as.

Given how big Sony overall is, they might just see the writing on the wall and exit the Market completely. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just Xbox and Nintendo in a few years.

If you told someone that 6 months ago they’d laugh

sooner for sure. wolverine is the first big miss. theyre gonna feel that missing PC revenue. give it another flop or two and theyll be crawling back to pc, especially with the infintely increasing budget needed for these games

And the cost of consoles. Sure they did a report about how they don't care if the PS6 sells and they wanna focus on PS5 markets. It's a lie. Shareholders want new consoles for new consumers to upcharge and recharge for "remasters" and so on. The Ps6 dropping at 1K+ will be a pretty heavy blow as well.

It wasn't fir no reason. It precipitated their shift to digital only. They want to build a closed garden system like Nintendo. The problem is, as old and successful as they are, they don't have cultural and historical cache that Nintendo has to pull that sort of thing off.

2

u/Urabraska- Sep 11 '26

Nintendo has been a closed system pretty much since day 1. Sony attempting to do that shit now is moronic.

I agree with you. I did the exact same move after being a life long PlayStation player. And I’m unfortunately at the point I don’t see myself buying another PlayStation unless something changes in the business.

Numbers dont show that. But sureeee

But they do? Sure, games sold 2 years after the fact (like Spiderman 2) didn’t do as well. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 released simultaneously on PC and did more than twice Playstation’s numbers.

Their console share is likely worth more then anything steam would bring. You risk that if you have day 1 releases on steam.

The cost/benfit isn't there

And it is a GAAS which will keep coming to PC

so good news you’ll have chance to purchase FairGame$ /s

1

u/Zeppelanoid Sep 11 '26

They released the numbers and the truth is no one was buying their games on PC. I can see why they felt it wasn’t worth their effort.

Saying most of the exclusives were never that special is just plain wrong.

1

u/Lapiz_lasuli Sep 11 '26

Most of the exclusives were never that special to begin

Exactly what I thought when their games came to pc. With the exception of a few of them.

They were really good at makig exclusives that were engaging stories that appealed to a wide audience while still having good enough gameplay to appeal to a more hardcore audience. That's actually not easy to pull off
