hi everybody, I am zone 9b. we finally just dropped from 100 degrees and now it’s high 70s-80s. I seeded both my planters Monday afternoon.
my problem is my soil isn’t soaking in the water? I took a photo. I’m trying to figure out if I should take the L, strip the top layer, water everything? & then reseed….?

Question Where do you store your containers after the summer growing season is over?

Hi guys. I'm a container vegetable gardener in zone 7b. We are very close to approaching the first frost, any time soon. I grow my vegetables in the 27 gallon Costco containers with drilled holes at the bottom for drainage and it has worked well. As the season comes to an end, I am thinking about treating my soil with hydrogen peroxide mix and neem cake powder as I had problems with spider mites this season. My main question is, do you guys keep your containers covered and outside or bring them inside? I don't want to drag so many containers in my home. And then constantly worry about pests even though I'm treating it. My main goal is to be able to reuse this same dirt next year by adding more organic compost and fertilizer to replenish the nutrients. Thanks in advance!

Hi all, so i started gardening in order to learn patience plus nothing better to do. It began with inset rows and nothing but radishes, and not to brag but they came out looking and tasting good even after a bad drought to contend with. But im doing my adhd thing now and its clearly evolved into alot doing broccoli, lettuce, kale, spinach, asparagus, garlic and onions etc and im getting fixated lol but its going well. My only thought now is am I doing too much too fast and does anyone have any suggestions on a better row setup to control weeds? My final form is probably the raised rows I then mulched with in house leaf and grass and twig mulch and then covered in fabric. Wild allium is the main issue right now we shall see how the new setup does. Anyway I want to do more berries any thoughts on what can grow good in 6b outside strawberries?

I will slowly snack on them but it may take a few weeks. How do I store them to last a little bit without freezing?

With frost warnings and temps forecast below freezing this coming weekend, I figured it was time to start clearing out the gardens. Last 5 of my 8 celery plants.

Question Sunchokes - oops

So, I planted sunchokes. Maybe two years ago. And then just kind of left them alone. Today, I was pulling out the stalks, and wondered where the “chokes” were. Eventually I dug down far enough to see they are both tiny and EVERYWHERE, as are the roots, including up against my home’s foundation. Is this a humbling lesson in listening when people say something spreads quickly, or is this a foundation wrecking mistake?

Question Freeze coming- do I pick?

My Greek gingante beans have been growing all summer, but they set kinda late and we have a freeze coming tonight. I've covered as much as I could with the sheets that I have but some are still dangling out in the open -- some are bulging with fat beans but others are a little thinner.. Should I pick them tonight? last year when we got our first freeze, it damaged the pods and we had very little harvest. Help!

Question Getting rid of fungus gnats before bringing my plants indoor

It's soon to be winter and I have 3 potted plants: tomato, parsley, basil. I've already harvested the tomato and basil and gotten rid of the plants. I'm going to try to grow the parsley indoors since I get good sunlight. The other two pots are going to be used for some other plants.

However, all three of my pots have a ton of fungus gnats. It's going to be close to freezing temps soon so i'm hoping the adults will die if I leave the pots outside for a week (and hopefully my parsley doesn't die). I bought some mosquito bits to help kill the larvae too.

I'm trying to avoid bringing any fungus gnats inside my house once I move all 3 pots inside.

Is this a good plan? Or should I just get rid of all the potting soil on the two pots and then hope my parsley doesn't have any fungus gnats ?

Garden Photos What happens if you plant 3 tomatoes in a raised bed and never prune them

I was curious how tomatoes would do with no pruning at all and this is the result. It is definitely not the most effective method and will leave me with alot of clean up at the end of the season but I did get lots of tomatoes
